Just so you know,
sblmnldrknss knows that "comic books aren't challenging."
Reading should only ever be at age level or above and though she claims to read EVERYTHING in one comment, she is quick to later inform us that, in fact, she never reads children's fiction for fun because it is beneath her.
Apparently "if you're over, I don't know, 12, reading Harry Potter doesn't 'count' as reading anymore than reading People magazine 'counts' as reading." An interesting judgment from someone who has never read the books at all.
In that same vein, one doesn't have to actually KNOW about something in order to deem it unworthy in her world. she has never seen an episode of the Simpsons, but can claim with all confidence that it is juvenile because it involves animation. Also, all video games are childish.
And yes, this is the same person who would let a teenage daughter die after a botched abortion because abortion is wrong and getting her child medical help would make her morally culpable for the abortion.

Figured this stupid was big enough for s_f:
Whitney Isleib, a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader, is Lil Wayne for Halloween. Unfortunately she decides to paint herself black which I guess is in this year. Unfortunately, the majority of ontd does not understand why people could possibly find this offensive.
More gems include:
BLACK PEOPLE CAN DO IT
This is not blackface because a) I am black and b) I am not offended so duh
this one just makes people think and isn't stupid
I AM MORE OFFENDED BY LIL WAYNE BECAUSE...STEREOTYPES, UGH
and
merbella just let's us all know that we perpetuate racism by being offended
And there is more stupid throughout.

hardcoresince3 brings the one about the white girl who can barely afford taco bell so [direct quote]: WHAT FUCKING WHITE PRIVILEGE? YOU'RE SUCH A FUCKING RACIST BITCH I RECEIVE NO FUCKING PRIVILEGE WHATSOEVER! I'm so sick of this fucking phrase being thrown around just because I happen to be white. Sorry my parents were white? Sorry that a VERY LONG TIME AGO people acted like douchebags to other people? NOT MY FUCKING FAULT.
strangestsea didn't let this one slip:

slightly o/t but last night at 8pm i had no idea what i was going to be for halloween. all of my friends are very creative/secretive about their costumes, so after reading about blackface performers in my history of jazz class i decided to be as offensive as possible and put on some blackface, my bf's old suit, a ridic hat, some dreds, and went as t-pain.
But w/e, it was a big hit at the bar!
EDIT: original comment was deleted. But it was exactly the same as what I wrote, so yay!

I'm too speechless to even write up a witty summary. So just read:
20 people witnessing the rape of an unconscious, beaten girl must not have known that it was rape!
Come on people, as if a bunch of teenagers would be cool with gang rape! You have links telling me all about our youths rape culture? LIES! IT'S ALL LIES!
Those are the 2 main threads. Have fun beating your head against your desk.
ps. Be on the lookout for the "you got gang raped & people stood by & watched? I'm sorry that happened but well we're not talking about you" thread. Priceless.

1. If you don't like all the media attention, why the fuck did you identify yourself publicly as the victim?
oh i'm sorry! i thought i was blaming her for deciding to tell publicly everyone she was the vicitm, then complain about everyone wanting interviews! my bad! i didnt realize i was putting the blame on her for getting raped by doing so! oops!... so if someone is a victim of a crime, they are exempt from any sort of blame?
im not blaming her for anything to do with the crime intself, im blaming her for dciding to come out and say it was her and then complain when people ask her for interviews. dont come out and say HEY EVERYONE IM THE PERSON WHO GOT RAPED BY POLANSKI and then whine when people harass you for the scoop

Dear
poor_skills,
I got a free cast iron pan that has been sitting in a puddle of oven cleaner for the last year and a half. How do I clean it before using it?
Most members of the community say to throw the damn thing away and replace with a new one. Or a at least don't use it to cook food. Common sense advice, actually, no?
Obviously not.
caligineux pulls out the chemistry book and off we go. Of course, "My chemistry is a bit dusty, but unless someone has a good explanation why the pan is unsafe, I would say go for it." Other than the explanation that it's a porous cast iron pan that has been sitting in a puddle of goddamn OVEN CLEANER for 18 MONTHS!
marveen agrees with that - "I'm going with the commentors who say to soak it, neutralize with vinegar, etc.
I would then follow up by boiling it filled with pure water, possibly outside, two or three times and scrubbing with plain soap in between."
Oven cleaner. A year and a half. On a cast iron pan. "Scrub it with soap."
ETA: Sorry, guys, didn't mean to disable comments! Fixed it and thanks for the heads-up.
ETA 2: Okay, so it's not porous (the pan, that is...). My bad. My point still is who in their right mind will use a pan that has been treated like this to prepare food? Raise your hand if you are one of those people, please.
Okay, I give up. Failpost is fail, just like my chemistry knowledge. I knew I should've paid attention in high school at some point.

A few days old, but comments were still trickling in as of yesterday, so.
In
mock_the_stupid, a post is made about an amusing ad campaign showing people how to properly sneeze into their elbows to prevent spreading germs.
An Australian named
silece responds: umm... what happened to sneezing into one's hands?
At first he seems to labor under delusion that the only reason to cover up a sneeze is to prevent projecting globs of snot into the air, but upon being informed about the spread of germs he pulls out the ol' "I'm sorry, but..." routine (cousin of "No offense, but [offensive statement or question]").
I'm sorry...But do they grow you without immune systems in America?
He really ramps up the sensitivity in response to a statement about past flu epidemics that have killed a lot of people: yeah, you're right. it's really been a threat to the species.
And finally, regarding immunocompromised people: For starters, the ahimsas pretty much died out. You can't live without harming anything. Living in a bubble because someone else might get sick from a chance encounter: not going to happen. Other people who don't take precautions appropriate to their situations: doubly not my problem.

In
booju_newju, someone asks "Is it reasonable for a parent to absolutely insist that their college-age child finish university in four years(taking an extra year is out of the question), have a full courseload, and work full-time during the summer?"
visual_syntax's emotionally abusive parents used money as a form of control while he or she was in college.
lyricmaniac insists they aren't mocking anyone, they just have a hard time understanding people who haven't gotten past being verbally and emotionally abused.

ohnotheydidnt ensues when
oh_roulette decides to proclaim how much better looking her kid is in this post of singer Christina Aguilera with her son Max in a pumpkin patch.
"A-that kid is just ugly, my kid cuter or not.. B-Hand to god he's a beautiful kid, much hotter than I am, haha"
her response to people calling her out for picking on a kid? "Screw that, I call 'em like I see 'em"
& a nice little gem is when someone says something rude about her kid & she responds "Um listen here you little bitch, none of us are ugly, so move on. As for who my mom married, he could have a million dollars, so get the hell over it"

I totally understand why it's a stigma in S. Korea... kids who grow up w/o a father tend to have so many problems, I think it's better in a lot of cases to just opt for adoption or something. it's kind of a shame how common it is in the United States. hopefully those numbers drop soon.
Then shit starts to get real.
what?
apparently abortion means you can't have kids anymore

bad_service,
amethystcitrine makes a perfectly reasonable post about not being able to get pizza at a pizza place. Five times.
While most of the comments are either sympathy or "yeah that's probably a front,"
thenodrin says that
amethystcitrine just isn't being fair. And also, stop being mean to Pizza Hut!
Which is where the real stupid comes in. When people start saying that Pizza Hut makes them sick,
thenodrin replies:
That actually is common. It is because the sauce is nothing more than tomato paste and water mixed together with a tiny bit of basil and garlic. So, anyone with the slightest reaction to tomatoes is going to have a reaction to the pizza.
Yup. Pizza Hut makes people sick because they're allergic to tomatoes. (Also,
thenodrin signs their comments and so should be duly scorned.)

So some pizza girl gets called to this one guy's house to deliver pizza and four times he answers the door his meat and potatoes are out on display for her to see.

atthehotelyorba posts an article about Roman Polanski getting arrested in Switzerland on the basis of a 1978 arrest warrant for drugging and raping a 13 year old girl and for fleeing the United States.
The first few comments are of the valid, run of the mill "about time", "took long enough" variety, but then
justbolognese enlightens everyone that "Roman Polanski doesn't deserve to go to jail." When someone asks Why, "Because he's Roman Polanski?"
justbolognese tells everyone its not that, but because "it all seems more like a lynching than justice."
After
pengy737 points out that he fled the police and asks "[Do] you want him to be rewarded for that?"
justbolognese responds with "Dude, that was 30 years ago. The women forgave him. France wouldn't let a fucking pedophile on its ground for 30 years unless they knew something was weird about the whole case (the judge Rittenband seeking fame more than justice for example)"
A little bit of scrolling later shows us that "the law has changed. If you comit crimes against emotionally strong people who are able to forgive their attackers then the crime is considered void." It could be pointed out that a person raped at 13 might not be considered 'emotionally strong', but
baby_bytes goes the "I'M A CRIMINAL SCIENCE MINOR. STFU" route.
Just a little further down
lightsandbuzz says that "it's upsetting. he will never be at peace, i guess. people need to fucking let this go and have some sympathy for the trauma he went through with the holocaust and his wife and child's murder and just leave him alone"
lightsandbuzz also lets us know that the victim has "forgiven" her rapist so "if she doesn't care anymore, no one should."
Then
wickedground lets us know that "...if he's a "real" pedo you don't even know. (it's not like that most men that rape children are actually pedos, it's more like seeing a weak victim in them). Plus his whole background with Sharon's death..."
Actually, in the end, a lot of people agree that the girl has "forgiven" him so the courts should.
The idea that actual lynching is just like getting arrested for a crime you plead guilty to continues.
Then something is said about Americans and their sarcasm.
