Community Profile

In the begining...
The original members only numbered 4 (sources differ, some say 3, some say 5) and were normally found outside the old Skills Centre on the Street, or in the old Annex. From these humble beginnings, the group swelled. Our numbers became so great the college staff complained about unacceptable levels of noise during lunch times and free periods (the blame lies on poker games and on harmonicas!) then attempted (unsuccessfully) to kick us out. Thus we became known as the Street Rats of QMC.


We moved, in order to preserve the greater harmony of the college and also to retain our education, first to the quad that lined the Street, then to the pond and then to the backfield, our name changing to meet our location- Pond Rats and Field Mice, yet the old tag of Street Rat remained. On the field in the summer of 2005 we had a barbeque, which will remain in our minds for years to come, notably for the successful buying-off of Charlie the security man.

At the end of 2005, we came into the possession of the Blue Room (also known as the Bar), which has given us a reputation throughout the college. However, we stayed Street Rats, resisting the name of “Blue Room Gang”. The Blue Room housed us all through 2006, despite the best efforts of Garth Thomas, and shall never be forgotten for it’s poker games, animated discussions, picnics, parties and discos.

And now as A-levels approach, some of us move off to University, some of us remain to carry on the name of Street Rat. Whether we go or we stay, we remain friends, and we remain the Street Rats of QMC.
