About
The blame for this journal is split 50/50: 50% of the blame goes to [info]ursulav, who set up [info]art_challenge. The other 50% of the blame goes to [info]rosaleendhu, who tirelessly--and unsuccessfully--searched LiveJournal for a writing counterpart to the aforementioned community.

Note that despite the fact this community is obviously inspired by [info]art_challenge, I don't have the confidence--or the draw--to name it Kass Fireborn's Irregular Writing Challenge. However, that's pretty much what it amounts to--somewhat irregular writing challenges issued by moi, or else issued by someone I tell to issue one because I can't think of anything, which I fully admit is likely to happen.

Who can participate? Anyone who wants to play around with writing prose fiction. Not poetry, and not non-fiction--prose fiction. Beyond the fact it needs to be fiction, I don't really care what it is; all genres, including fan fiction, are equally welcome. In theory, all people are equally welcome, though there are some minor rules you must follow--consider clicking on that joining link as an agreement to do so.

Major challenges, which are designed to stretch your writing muscles, will be posted every three weeks. Easier, shorter, more random, and completely optional challenges will be posted every week a major challenge is not being posted. When you've done a challenge, you can post it or not; frankly, we'd prefer you to post it. It lets us see what you're doing, and gives you the opportunity to get critiques from the rest of the community. If you're feeling nervous about your stuff, or need to retain certain rights that public posting would negate, feel free to friends lock it so only community members can see.

Challenges that aren't length specific--I doubt most will be--can also simply be portions of larger works. Naturally, if you're going to post those, just post a pertinent excerpt.

After you've joined, be sure and stop by the introductions thread!
