 | 12:16 pm - New comics.... eventually You may or may not have noticed that I created a page for the "Stick Library: Real World" comics. There are even quite a few titles of strips there!
The scanner problem may be resovled soon. I won't be buying my own (yet) but I've had offers from people to scan the pictures for me. Trouble is, I'm too possessive of my comics to let them be scanned away from my sight. I'll get over it, though :)
So, once I draw up the comics to a larger size (instead of cocktail-napkin sized doodles) there will be lots of new comics! Yay!

 | 08:59 am - Been a while... It's been a long time since I've posted here, but if all goes well today, there should be some brand spankin' new comics on the site in the next few days. I'll let you know when they're up.
Also, I'm still selling the Stick Library book, if anyone is interested. I really should keep better records on how many I've sold... I'm guessing about 20 (but I could be wrong)
So stay tuned for "Stick Library: Real World" coming soon to a webpage near you! Current Mood: working

 | 10:16 pm - Final Stick Library book update Okay, the books are away to the printers and I'll pick them up on Monday. So as long as there were no problems (which there shouldn't be), I should be able to mail them off Tuesday.
Thanks to everyone who bought a copy! I appreciate the support, and I hope these comics will bring you all a lot of laughs for a long time to come.
For now, the store will remain open. If no one else buys a book in the next month or so, I'll shut it down. But I won't be spamming LJ anymore with ads, so people on the other library communities can rest easy ;)
If you do like the book, though, I'd appreciate you telling other people who you think might like it. I've found that word-of-mouth is the greatest form of advertising.
Thanks again!

 | 09:22 am - Stick Library book Today and tomorrow are the last days to buy the first printing of the Stick Library book. After this, I don't know if I'll keep them on sale. I guess I'll see if people are still interested!
Anyway, I'll be bringing the orders to be printed on Saturday, so go to the Store and order your copy!
[I know x-posts are evil, but I'm trying to inform as many people as possible, so I apologize! Also displayed in sticklibrary, uwo_mlis, and library_grrls]

 | 07:26 am - gentle reminder If anyone out there wants to buy the Stick Library book, the first round of sales will stop on March 31st. I'll try to get them printed on the weekend, and hopefully have them in the mail by April 3rd *fingers crossed*
This means that if you want a book, you better order it soon! :)
Thanks to those who have already ordered!

 | 08:22 pm - BIG NEWS! It's finally happened!
The Stick Library book is officially on sale. Just visit the store to order your copy through PayPal.
I'll bring the first batch in to be printed during the first week of April. I'm so excited! I hope I figured out how to do shipping through PayPal... ;)
[x-posted to uwo_mlis and an announcement will be put on library_grrls, but it won't be exactly the same as this one]

 | 03:30 pm - Hooray! The Stick Library book has been printed! At least, one copy. For me. It still has some minor editing to undergo, but I hope to at least get some preorders soon. Just gotta figure out PayPal.
The printing itself cost me $16 per book. The book is 74 pages, on good quality paper, coil bound, with a few pages in colour. Keeping in mind that I would like to make a slight profit on these books (hey, who wouldn't?), would $20 CAD (+shipping) be a reasonable price? Current Mood: ecstatic

 | 05:50 pm - Update Okay, I've converted the Stick Library book from a .PDF to a Word .DOC and will bring it to Staples probably next week for printing. I hope there are still people out there who are remotely interested in this book.
I'm sticking to the original plan. I'll make one copy for myself to make sure it looks halfway decent, and to find out how much printing will cost. Then I'll start selling them on my site. When I get enough orders (or enough time passes), I'll go back to Staples and have them printed. Then I'll mail them off.
The price will be only a few dollars over the printing cost + shipping. I have no idea how much shipping will cost, but Canada Post has a nifty calculator to figure out how much postage will be. That's what I'll use to determine the additional charge.
I'm hoping the book won't be more than $10 CAD, but that depends on what Staples charges me :) Current Mood: optimistic

 | 02:47 pm - Update on book publishing Aargh!!
Got a call from Staples, and it's not working. I'm going to have to rethink the whole thing, then find a way to resave it as a PDF (since I'm not at school anymore and can't use their program) and try printing again.
Anyone have suggestions? All the pages are saved as .jpgs, but I can't hand in a whole disk of .jpgs to a printing place. It has to be one PDF file. This is driving me batty! Current Mood: frustrated

 | 12:03 pm - Good news! I just dropped off the CD with the Stick Library book on it to Staples. I only got one copy printed, so I can see how much it's going to cost and what it will look like. If it doesn't look like crap, I'll start orders for everyone! Hooray!
If it does look like crap, well, back to the drawing board, I suppose.
Sorry about such a long wait. My life exploded recently, and the people at Staples are kinda slow. By 3:30pm today, I should have the printed copy in my hand! I'm so excited! Current Mood: excited

 | 11:09 am - Haven't Forgotten Hey everyone!
I haven't completely forgotten about the Stick Library books (if people are still interested), but I've been on vacation since Christmas and haven't had a chance to look into printing. It's on my to-do list when I return home. Just letting everyone know I'm still planning on printing the books! Current Mood: bouncy

 | 05:20 pm - Technical Difficulties Okay. So I worked my butt off the last few days to get the book all ready. All the pages are scanned, the commentary added, the pages are numbered, and a few comics were even coloured! I brought the whole schebang to the local print store to get it bound and all prettied so I can see how much it will cost to print.
Two hours later, it still wasn't printed. They couldn't read the file. Then they didn't receive the file. Then they couldn't print the file. Then I gave up.
So the whole thing is ready to be printed, but now I need to find another print store. The one I went to was crap. The service was terrible and I got nothing after waiting for 2 hours.
Sorry, but I'm too frustrated to look at this anymore. After Christmas, I'll bring it to the print store and try again.
I wish I could tell you how much it would cost, but until I get a copy printed, I have no idea. I'm thinking that in order for me to make a bit of a profit, the books will be between $10 and $15 CAD (+ shipping). Current Mood: annoyed

 | 02:42 pm - Stick Library book update! I'm diligently working away at redrawing all 50+ comics. It's taking longer than expected, but I'm nearly done! Only four more to redraw, plus a few never-before-seen comics, and then I have to trace and scan them, and add the commentary.
I hope to get it done before Christmas. Here's hoping! Visit the store part of my site to see a sample page. That's what the book will look like, only bigger!

 | 07:14 pm - Update!! Four new comics for Term Three!!
Also, check out the store area. I'm working on assembling all the comics (plus a few never-before-seen ones) into a book. It'll take me a while to redraw the 50+ comics, but I've already done all of term one and I'm working on term two!
Enjoy, and as always, please let me know what you think!

Spread the word to other library communities, please. I'm far too tired to x-post right now.

 | 11:48 am - Stick Library update! Don't get your hopes up. Nothing is on the site yet. Just wanted to let you know that I'm currently scanning a whole whack of comics. Hopefully they'll be up by next week. I'm sorry I've been lax in my updating, but I am without a scanner and only recently figured out how to use the one at school :)
So, if I don't get to it before the weekend, I'll definitely put the comics up then. I hope there are still people out there who read this! :) Current Mood: busy

 | 09:48 pm - gearing up for a new term! I have (I think) two more Co-Op comics to post, once I get access to a scanner again, and a whole term ahead of me. I'm sure I'll be just as inspired in my final year of the MLIS as I have been throughout!
For a heads up, the courses I'm taking are: 1. Services for Children and Young Adults - sure to have some good ones here! 2. Archival Reference and Outreach 3. Library Planning 4. Digital Libraries 5. Collections Development - I've heard rumours about this course, so there may be some gems here too!
A big thanks to everyone who visits this site! Current Mood: excited
