After lunch the rest of the day passed uneventfully. Steele was considering whether to suggest going home when Laura suddenly appeared in the doorway.

"I think it's time to go home, what do you think?"

"That I'm hallucinating, however if I am don't shatter the illusion now I rather enjoy seeing a vision of such pure loveliness."

"Well as lovely a thought as that is, this vision is ready to go home."

"Laura you do realise it's not even five o'clock don't you?"

"Yes, one of the first things I learnt in detective school was telling time."

"Funny I would have thought you had been born knowing how to tell time, or at least keeping it."

"Hmm but unlike some others my time skills were limited to one time zone."

"Actually I thought you'd be waiting to hear from Lewis."

"I thought I would too. But I've decided that chances are he won't call today and if he did there's probably not much we can do at the end of the day. It makes more sense to to home now so we can be rested and ready to go tomorrow."

"Ah now that's the Laura I know and love so well."

"And which Laura would that be?"

"The making sense one. I rely on you to be the one making sense."

"Sweet talker. You sure know how to charm a gal."

"Ah yes that would be my legacy from the charm squad. Now seeing I have you so charmed to waste it would be nothing short of criminal."

"So it's time for home then?"

"To home we're away!"

Laura had never seen Steele pack up and be ready to leave the office quite so fast before. He stood by Mildred's desk Sophie in one arm and her bag in the other hand. Laura was reminded once again of how very much she loved the two of them. She loved seeing them together. Who would have thought this would be her life and yet now she could imagine no other.

"Mildred if Mr Lewis does call with that information...."

Steele didn't realise but he was holding his breath waiting to hear what Laura was about to say. He knew what this job meant to her but he prayed she wasn't saying to ring them, or heaven forbid bring the information around.

"...it can wait until the morning. I'm sure we can concentrate on it better then."

Breathing a sigh of relief Steele beamed, "My sentiments exactly. See you in the morning Mildred." Then turning his attention to his beautiful wife added "Let's go before you change your mind."

"I doubt that's possible when you turn those gorgeous eyes on me."

"Remind me to send a card of thanks to the blue eye brigade then eh."

"Well one thing we can sure say about you Boss."

In reply Steele merely raised an eyebrow.

"Unlike a lot of men you actually listen to what we ladies say."

"Well Mildred I do find it's in my best interest to. It certainly keeps me out of trouble and I shudder to think what pearls of wisdom I could miss if I didn't."

"Mildred I do believe the charm squad were handing out double portions they day our Mr Steele showed up. He definitely seems to have an over abundance of it."

"I'm with you Honey, and we sure ain't complaining about it."

"I agree, you'll get go complaints from me."

"Well, now that we've established that, shall we take our leave?"

"We shall! See you in the morning Mildred."

As they left the good looking blue eyed charmer with the hot bod, added "We may just be a tad late Mildred, but you'll cope I'm sure."

Mildred looked from one to the other. "Come on you two, it's fate I tell ya fate! In fact it's kismet. I mean what else could it be but a sign? You come to me saying you need a night away and then just like that in he comes with a case in a hotel!"

At the stunned silence from both of them Mildred plunged on, "Say something, anything, one of you. Can't you see how perfect this is? Mr Steele? Mrs Steele?"

"Mildred I think our recollection of the facts may differ slightly from yours however at this stage and", he turned to look at Laura, "correct me if I'm wrong but we never had any thought to go and stay there."

Mildred's face fell, "Just promise me you are going to do it at some point. Preferably before I'm ninety."

Steele was awakened by a stifled cry. At first he didn't know where he was, but then he remembered the events of the last night and smiled. Worried by the cry, he looked at Laura and was horrified. She was in a miserable condition. Sobs shook her body as she clutched a pillow tightly.

Laura reluctantly stepped out of Steele's arms, "You know I could quite happily kiss you like this all day, don't you."

"Well I have no objections although.."

"You have something you'd rather be doing?"

"Hhmm and it involves that desk, after all it's been a while."

"You know once upon a time I would have agreed in fact would have gone as far as to say it hasn't just been a while it's been never!"

"And now?"

Steele and Laura looked at each other not sure if they'd heard right. Steele could feel the questions in Laura's head and had to use every ounce of acting ability he possessed just to keep his face neutral. He loved the look on his gorgeous wife's face. It amazed him that he hadn't realised years ago how she felt because now he saw every emotion she was feeling. To anyone else her face showed a woman cool, calm and collected. To him all the tale tell signs were there that she had a million questions in her head, and was wondering if this guy was for real or not. It probably wasn't helping that they had recently been through that weird case with Freddy. It had shaken both of them to a degree, but Laura more so. He knew her better than anyone, sometimes he though even better than she herself. Her confidence had taken a hit and this disconcerted feeling he knew she was having was only going to be enhanced by that fact.

Stepping forward hand extended Steele took charge, "First things first eh. I'm Remington Steele, this is my lovely wife and associate Laura Steele and you are...?"

"Oh forgive me, my name is James Lewis. It's nice or rather a relief to meet you...both".

"Now Mr Lewis you'll need to forgive me. For while I would be most reluctant to imply you were not telling the truth, I find the notion of someone "stealing" a hotel a little difficult to comprehend."

"This is incredibly exciting," Remington whispered, leaning against the sofa and wrapping his arms around Laura as she sat between his legs.

"The fire feels good," Laura said, closing her eyes against the heat. "It's almost nostalgic, sitting here in front of a fire with you."

"Maybe we should sleep in separate rooms for old time's sake," Remington said, giving her a playful nudge.

"So, what's your plan?" Remington said, kissing Laura's neck as she drove; an action he was usually chastised for.

"We need to see if Tyler has the prescription. Then we need to follow up on the missing money from the Troupe account."

"Yes, getting paid for this fiasco of a case is not something I am willing to negotiate on." He kissed her ear. "Does this covert job mean I get to see you in that slinky black number with the zipper?" he asked, his eyes sparkling.

"Oh, I think that could be arranged," she answered.

Mildred leapt out of her seat and almost took flight across the room when Steele and Laura walked in with Sophie.

"Did you really mean it Boss? Are you going to leave me with that gorgeous little angel for a whole night?"

"It's not that we don't love you Mildred but someone has to be with her. We can't leave her alone at such a tender age to fend for herself".

At the sound of her father's voice Sophie giggled.
