Yummy Gloves

  • Sep. 23rd, 2008 at 2:46 PM
They have many choices, but I liked these very much:

Leather Gloves Online.

I've never ordered from them, but they're on the Greater Bay Area Costumers'Guild website, so one imagines that they must be somewhat reasonable.

Gypsy help update

  • Sep. 22nd, 2008 at 5:22 PM
I needed some retail therapy today after hearing of some family drama. Luckily I had done some work and earned myself about $60 of which I proceeded spend $47 at my local consignment shop. I picked up some great finds for the gypsy costume and other side projects I have going.
Pics & Stuff Under This Way )
I also picked up a $2.00 vintage gold sweater clasp. It's a clasp at either end with a short chain. I figure I'll be able to utilize it somewhere in the future.

Oh! My!

Almost forgot- I had one other recent piece to show to the lot of you....

Arcaneunk: Arcanist Guantlets by =Winneganfake on deviantART

Yes- full-arm versions of the good old "shock gauntlet" design. And yes, this is close to a "production model" version- close enough that I'll soon be taking orders for different sizes, that is, if anyone on here has any interest?

Incoming!

A couple of weeks ago, I walked into the Conference Room at Sock Dreams HQ, and there on the table were laid out many beautiful samples of a new line we will soon be carrying (store-only first until all the images and inventory are added), a line that *I* think will be very steamy additions to our wardrobes. OTKS, gloves, arm and hand warmers, all hand made.
I don't know much about them yet as I am not involved in the purchasing, but a certain product caught my eye, and I put them on and walked around with them for the remainder of the day.
I was told I wasn't allowed to keep them because they were only samples shown during the review process and had to give them back, but because I got to model them, I was happy to find out a couple of days later that I get to keep them!

They are.....velvet. They are wonderful, even on rather warm days.
My advice to you is to keep an eye on the Sock Journal, and if you live in Portland, when they go live, come in and get them as well as the other products from this merchant, because I predict they will go fast.
They will go live on the website after many images are taken, some of which I hope to model and test and keep. The faster and more enthusiastic I do this (I am not a patient model because I don't like to stand still for long, but these will be the exception) the faster they will be ready to sell.

UPDATE: There's a game afoot.
The only hint I'm going to give you Read more... )

A treasure trove of accessories

  • Sep. 7th, 2008 at 5:17 PM
Over the last couple of weekends, I've found some amazing pieces to go with the costumes that have been floating around in the back of the brain. Now I just need to get off my dignity and actually make the outfits to go with them.

And remember, the LJ cut is your friend! Apologies )
I am in pursuit of a pair of gloves that look like these, in a size 7.5, brown or black leather, also open to buttons and fingerless styles. My budget isn't terribly high so the less expensive the better:

On the end of drool-worthy gloves, I found this wonderful site which NYers can visit in person.

These would've been posted sooner but my computer's power supply took the big dirt nap last week and I couldn't replace it until I got a paycheck. The copper coils inside the old one have potential for much plotting of evil--muhuhahahaaaa!

The first one is the ubiquitous Victorian Miser's Purse. Based on an 1870s pattern. More babbling plus a half-nude hand... )

Lost Gloves Post...

  • Jul. 1st, 2008 at 9:04 PM
Hello hello!

I've been searching like mad for a post made to this community in the last six months or so, and now I'm looking for help. The poster modified leather work gloves so they were positively steamish and worn, and I'd like the pictures to show a friend. However, the poster did not tag their images, nor use the word 'gloves' in their subject line... (I've been searching way too long).

Anyone happen to have saved the link?

Much thanks!

For those of you not adverse to wearing 100 year old clothing, and actually enjoy collecting vintage pieces, there are some interesting and affordable items here:

(as well as some weird things!) Thought I would post this since there are some men's summer vests and the subject of summer clothing came up in earlier threads.

Quick question for you all, forgive me if it's already been asked and I looked it over. I was just wondering if anyone could help me find an inexpensive pair of woman's leather dress gloves for a costume I'm starting on. I would prefer brown but am open to all colors at this point, it also doesn't need to be real leather as long as it looks authentic.

Colored tights and gloves!

  • May. 11th, 2008 at 5:45 AM
I just found this site:

welovecolors.

They have 45 colors (!!!) in pretty much everything they make. And everything they make includes:
solid tights and socks - men, women, women's plus size, and kids
stripe tights (black-and-x AND white-and-x versions) - women, women's plus size, and kids
vertical stripe thigh highs (black-and-x only) - women
silk ties - men, but don't let that stop you, ladies - for $18!!
wrist length gloves - men, women, and kids - not as nicely fitted as we might wish, but hey, they EXIST.
opera length gloves - men and women
elbow length gloves - men
stripe and fishnet armwarmers - women
shoelaces - hiding under women for some reason

And they ship internationally, too.

I can't vouch for their quality, as I haven't ordered from them at all, but they've apparently shown up in a bunch of fashion magazines, and actually bother mentioning both swim-fastness (!) and light-fastness, so they have to be at least as good as the Leg Avenue stuff. Having this available is super-sweet for pirates, dandies (Oscar Wilde was known for wearing colored gloves), knee-breeches outfits, lolita-steampunk or goth-steampunk outfits, ladies-of-the-evening/courtesans/libertines (think Moulin Rouge)...

Gloves for an elegant rough & tumble

  • Apr. 26th, 2008 at 1:19 AM
Inspired by [info]jaborwhalky's post, I am asking for glove recommendations. Specifically, I'm looking for gloves to wear while scootering, so I want some that are tough enough to actually protect my hands in case of a spill, but of course I also want to look elegant.

And who knows more about elegance and function than the steampunk persuasion?

Ideally, I'd love to be able to shop locally (Toronto) but webshopping can be done.

Gloves

Does anyone have a pattern that I could use to simulate a clockwork/steam powered gauntlet/glove? It would need to be wearable on my left hand.

Resources/Links appreciated.

Mods feel free to remove post if it is in contravention of the rules.

Guten Abent.

Shameless glove plug!

  • Apr. 2nd, 2008 at 10:07 AM
Lots of folks post about where to find steamy shoes, so I thought I'd share my favorite gloves. Mad Scientist gloves should ideally cover all of the hands as well as the wrists, to keep from catching in the gears.

I've worn my gauntlets from Potted Fox Studios for the past year and still love them.

The Lace Hook and Skirt Keepers may be of interest as well.

Glovely gloves (and leggings and such)

  • Jan. 22nd, 2008 at 4:06 PM

Apologies if this is a repost, but a friend of mine just sent me a link to these lovely people. And umm.. I may have bought one or two items. Whoops! There's gloves, leggings, armwarmers, legwarmers, cute socks, and all sorts of fun things. The site is so nice to navigate too, which makes a refreshing change. I believe their service is good too. Anyone else used them?

My query here deals with the weather: has anyone manage to mesh steampunk with 6 inches of snow at 15 degrees with a biting wind?  I'm really not one for fashion when it comes to cold toes and fingers, but thought I'd send the question out to the community anyway.
