Do you have the time?

  • Jul. 15th, 2008 at 6:42 PM

The lovely, beautiful, and talented bettine_punkn (aka Heather E. Hutsell ) has designed and created a dress entirely from a parachute. The dress contains a harness that has over 25 different pocket watches attached (and yes you can hear her approaching you!)

This is the serial # and manufacturing information of the military parachute which is on the back of the bustle

She will be appearing at San Diego Comic Con wearing it on Saturday & Sunday so make sure to say hello to her :)

Gorgeous!
I've seen other things made out of parachutes....but that dress by far surpasses them all.

Now that is cool. The design is great. I'm curious about the buttons. Do you know if she just used vintage buttons or something?

That's a beautiful dress!

One of the things I like most about the steampunk genre is how often it involves recycling old things into such beautiful, wearable pieces!

Great work!

The Time Jumper Dress
Thank You!!!! everyone for your comments. I put a LOT of work into designing and making this dress and I am glad it has been well received...it seems surreal that it is done!

To answer the question about the buttons: they are actually all new, but I did choose them all based on different eras (Eutruscan, Ancient Rome, Byzantine, Medieval, Late Middle ages, Elizabethan, Baroque, 18th Century, a few Victorian spans, to name a few) so it would look like I had collected them while "Jumping" through time...And so thus as well--all of the watches.

Re: The Time Jumper Dress
all you need is a watch made from a miniature sundial.

This crosses the line well into the Art camp because it's not pretentious but well-thought out, innovative and most of all, interesting. I see 'art dresses' quite frequently and most of the time they are, quite frankly, ludicrously ill-thought out. This one is far more fascinating and I thank you for sharing it with us.

Thank you. The idea of it first struck about this time last year. Took a few months to simmer before I finally forged ahead and started it. There was much planning and collecting to it, everything specifically hand picked to be exact...Thank you again.

The parachute dress on it's own is amazing, but the addition of all those lovely pocket watches shoves that outfit into the realm of being mind boggling! You've done such excellent work, bravo!
