Whilst working on my numerous projects it became obvious to me that it would be advantageous to have a few tools to hand while I worked. This problem was lying dormant in the back of my mind when I espied in town a housekeeper clipping her skirt up using a silver coloured skirt raiser on her chatelaine. On returning home I played around with a few doodads, crafted some chainmail hangers and created a gentleman's version of the device I had seen that very day.

How do you get the various items off when you need to use them? I suggest putting lobster clasps on everything in order to make it functional.

I KNOW that it's supposed to be decorative, but if it COULD theoretically be functional that would make it so much cooler.

Just my 2 cents. I do love the fob with the keyhole and the compass.

Oops! I just realized that those are calipers, not a compass. My bad.

There are victorian spring steel quick release clasps on all the items. Like lobster clasps but without the extra spring. You can just about see the one on the calipers if you look carefully.

I'm glad you liked the design.

Ah, you're one step ahead of me then. Spring rings are definitely more appropriate, too.

I was having a hard time imagining you using the pocket knife with it clasped at your waist. "Come here you rogue, and I shall poke you! No, you have to get closer, this chain isn't very long. Closer, closer!"

LOL :-D

Chatelaines are the shit. ;D

I've been trying to come up with a way to create a functional chatelaine, and I think now I'm going to make one for my pocketknife.

Fantastic stuff!

I can't figure out how you wear something like that without sounding like a toolbox falling down a flight of stairs. Then again, maybe that's part of the appeal?
It looks awesome, anyway.

It doesn't make much noise when you're walking because the chains hang against the leg and I must admit I quite like the light jingling noise. However, I was asked to clamber atop an old column base for a photshoot and the noise made was considerable. I think a redesign will be required for any budding ninja!

Thank you for the compliment.

Everyone loves dangly bits, and it totally goes with your outfit.

Nice work.
