Steampunk wedding?

Has anyone been able to pull off a steampunk wedding? I'm not getting married for at least 2 years, but my fiance and I want to do something fun and memorable. We're both into steampunk (though broke and not able to pursue it at the moment), as it combines our interests perfectly. What better theme for a wedding? Unique yet formal. I thought I'd ask here and maybe brainstorm. My very, very basic idea is some sort of can-can dress as a wedding dress (I hate the idea of a white wedding). I guess formal would be alright for the groom, but he's really not into suits, and we were hoping for something a little more creative.

I'd love to hear everyone's ideas, no matter how small! :D

A friend of mine had planned to get married on a train, all in Victorian garb: it ended up being too expensive but they did the Victorian side of things - someone somewhere needs to do a train wedding though ;)

We're getting married in a month and our wedding theme is steampunk. I'm not saying anything more than that at the moment, but we will post pictures afterwards. And it's going to be terribly fantastic, and done cheap.

Not really ideas as much as advice: Don't let anyone tell you you "have" to do something a certain way. It's your day. I've performed a couple weddings and am married myself, and it's heartbreaking to see people get railroaded into doing their wedding someone else's way. (Thankfully, my mom and his mom were both not only cool with our ideas, but supportive and totally into it, so we were spared that nuisance.) If he's not into suits, don't do a suit. There's a ton of fun steampunky ideas out there... airship pilot, rugged explorer, Wierd West cowboy to your can-can girl... the sky's the limit. Have fun!!!

Oh I couldn't agree with this comment more. My husband and I had a surprise wedding and completely avoided having to do anything we didn't want to. It was the most personal, hassle-free and fun wedding ever.
If I had even heard of steampunk back then I definitely would have done something with that theme.
It should be fairly easy to look at examples of victorian themed weddings (or even actual victorian weddings) and modify the style.

Is the groom not into a suit, or not into a tux? There are some really cool grey pinstripe and whatnot suits that are not too formal and very Victorian looking, and if you have a good formal store around you they can usually be rented if you're not into buying. We are planning the same thing. I have around at victoian white or cream dresses. I found a few her that I liked http://www.recollections.biz/ The dress are a lot cheeper than going to a wedding store.

i'm not sure where you're located but if you're located near water maybe you might want to look into having it on a boat. I live in san francisco and the bay area has several places where there are turn of the century boats, ships, and scooners, perfect for a sky ship docking at port for repairs and wedding festivities. Don't know if water is an option for you though.

also you could look into local national or state parks, having worked for the park service we love having weddings, and a lot of parks have victorian buildings, some even have old old factory builds. great for backdrop
