A call for your Holiday Wishlist!
Folks, I need your help. We're compiling a huge list of awesome gifts for our 12 Days of Geekmas over at GeekaChicas and I want to know what YOU want for Christmas/Kwanza/Hannukah/whatever this year. I'd love to see anything on your list but especially anything especially quirky, geeky, or Star Trek themed. I've added Wil Wheaton's awesome Earl Grey Tea Mug to my list, but I know there's more awesomeness out there. What say you? Will you help me? Current Mood: excited |

Star Trek TOS Meets Mr T What do you get when you combine Star Trek and the 1970's TV show, The A-Team? You get two wonderful mashup videos A recent innovations in fan films is called the mashup. In those films, two different shows are taken and combined to make a very unique product. Readers of this column have read of a gentleman named Rick Kelvington and seen his work on a mashup of Star Trek and Doctor Who (of which the third part is due out Christmas 2009). article link: http://www.roddenberry.com/community/index/detail?id=549 |

Alien-influenced actions in Star Trek series
I'm interested in how Star Trek: The Original Series makes use of outside influences upon the crew's expressions of emotion and sexuality, ie. Pon Farr, the Venus pill in "Mudd's Women," the contagion in "The Naked Time," the Talosians' manipulation of reality in "The Menagerie," the spores in "This Side of Paradise," and Kirk and Uhura's kiss in "Plato's Stepchildren." I'm really only familiar with TOS, so I was wondering if this occurs in other Star Trek series and what episodes I might check out. Basically, anytime an alien or some other force out of the characters' control influences their actions, particularly in regards to sex and romance. There's the phenomenon of "aliens made us do it," "alien sex pollen," and "fuck or die" in a lot of fan fiction, arguably originating in Star Trek fic but certainly having spread everywhere, and I'd like to trace how this kind of narrative device is used within the show itself, sort of giving the fans the canon tool or inspiration to explore interactions between characters that might not happen otherwise (ie. slash fan fiction). Thanks! |

Another unaired Star Trek pilot episode! (A Third!)
From the Article: "Most everybody knows there were two pilots for the original Star Trek, but did you know there was a third alternate version? This blast from the past will be available on Blu-ray when CBS Home Entertainment releases Star Trek: The Original Series—Season 3 on Dec. 15, along with plenty of third-season extras. 'When we first discovered the original film print existed, we jumped at the chance to give Star Trek fans the opportunity to add this never-aired pilot to their collections," said Ken Ross, executive vice president and general manager of CBS Home Entertainment. "It will be a real treat for fans to see and hear how it all could have begun.' " Link to video and more details! |

Gene Roddenberry gave so much 11:29 AM 11/21/09 · With Star Trek he showed us what the human race could achieve in the future, whereas with Andromeda we saw what would happen what would happen to fall from such heights. Because the Commonwealth did seem to be a nearly identical institution to the Federation. What did you think of Andromeda? Current Mood: quixoticCurrent Music: Judge Dredd |
