I don't know whether to blame this on T but it definitely is very unfortunate. I used to be nigh unto manic and sleeping less than 5 hours a night hardly phased me. But recently I am tired all of the fucking time. I went to bed last night at midnight woke up at 10am was still tired, went back to bed and now it's 2pm. I don't feel depressed and although my life is overwhelming at the moment it's been going on for about a month or so - since my body started to actually change in response to HRT. My theory is that because I'm shoveling hormones into my body to make hairs and muscles and zits..sigh...grow that maybe all this growing is more energy than my body has to burn. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

| WPATH in Norway |
[Jun. 17th, 2009|11:43 pm] |
Hey gentlemen! My name is Colt (age 25, FTM, clinical psyc PhD grad student) and I am in Norway for the WPATH conference this week. I've seen Marci Bowers and Jamison Green here already and am very excited to present 2 posters tomorrow evening, one is about transsexuals of color and their experiences with discrimination and the other is about FTMs of differing sexual orientations. It is so interesting to hear arguments for and against the inclusion of GID in the DSM by the experts. Many of their arguments sound very similar to arguments presented by FTMs themselves who may or may not be "experts" in any medical or psychological field. If anyone would like me to ask transitioning or TG-related questions for them while I am here with the experts, please email me at ftmresearch@gmail.com and I will do my best to find out what the leaders in this field have to say.
Thanks, Stacey Colt Meier

| Dissertation |
[Apr. 29th, 2009|01:40 am] |
My dissertation study recently got approved. Please help me get the word out! I can only realistically have participants who live in Texas or very close to Texas participate because I have to travel. See the following ad for information regarding the study. My advisor is apprehensive that I will not get enough participants.
Are you 18 or older? Do you currently identify as a female-to-male transgender or transsexual, or have identified as FTM in the past and now identify as male but have NOT started T? A self-identified transgender male, Stacey Colt Meier, is conducting a research study on persons who identify as transgender men. He is a doctoral student at the University of Houston and the results from this study will be used for his Doctoral Dissertation. The purpose of this research is to examine changes in cognitive functioning, emotional reactivity, and personality due to testosterone. In order to qualify for this study you must be at least 18 years old. You must not have started testosterone before the first testing session. You must plan to start testosterone within the next year and plan on taking testosterone for at least one year. If you are interested, email Colt at ftmresearch@gmail.com with your first name and telephone number. He will call you for an initial telephone screen. The study consists of three visits lasting 2 to 3 hours each where Colt will travel to eligible participants. These visits will be conducted over the period of one year: first pre-T, second 3-4 months after starting T, and third 10-12 months after starting T. You will be asked to fill out questionnaires that assess basic demographic information, personal transitioning plans, personality, and emotional reactivity. Participants will take a psychological test that measures intellectual functioning. This study has been approved by the Committee for Protecting Human Subjects at the University of Houston.
Thanks, Colt
P.S. I am currently still analyzing the results from my thesis internet survey, but I promise I'll post them and a link to my thesis once it's all done. (that'll be by the end of the summer)

| Itchy! |
[Apr. 22nd, 2009|04:51 pm] |
Hey Everyone,
I'm new to the community here. I just started T five days ago at 100mg/week. Right away I noticed my face getting itchy. It's weird because immediately I thought it might be an allergic reaction. It's not my whole face, mostly under my chin and my cheeks. The itch is not terrible, but I'm constantly scratching, it just wont go away, hah. Maybe this is the beginning of acne? I'm sure hormones are involved, but I thought it was way too early for any changes to begin. |

| Some questions, maybe silly |
[Apr. 17th, 2009|09:50 pm] |
So, after a two-week hiatus when my prescription ran out and my provider's office would not return any of my calls, I'm back on T (2g/day cream). Yay.
But I've been thinking lately about some of the effects of transitioning and I wondered if anyone here had any insight:
#1. Was anyone here a singer before going on T? Were you able to continue singing after T? I'm talking musicals and ballads and stuff, too, not just the shouting along to the favorite pop songs in the car that we all do. ;)
#2. I don't know why, but I have this paranoia about my creativity decreasing. I don't just mean "creativity" I guess, but rather, a kind of creative spirituality...those wild moments of inspiration or vision that flood you with passion and won't let you go until you've expressed it somehow. Those nearly orgasmic visions that might be some kind of prescience or connection to another world for how intense they are. Any other crazy borderline schizo creative types on this comm? How did taking T effect your moments of creativity/spiritual connection? Sorry if the question sounds kind of dumb, but I think if you're that sort of person you'll understand and know why I'm so worried about losing it or having it dulled down.
Thanks guys! |

Hey guys. I'm Allstar. I'm 20 years old from New Hampshire and I started Testosterone on January 6, 2009. I started out with 50mg of Testosterone Cypionate every 2 weeks. After 2 shots, I was increased to 100mg. After another 2 shots I was increased to 200mg.
After my first shot at 200mg, I developed a rash. Because I travel to Boston to work with trans-specialists, I went to a doctor closer just to see what the rash was. I was told it was not an allergic reaction. I consulted with my doctor in Boston, who said if it wasn't an allergic reaction, to go ahead and do my next shot.
I went down to Boston yesterday to consult about another medication I am taking, and was informed that this was infact an allergic reaction. The reaction was probably from the cottonseed oil that my testosterone was suspended in. I was given another prescription for Testosterone Enanthate. I was told to do a small amount of my shot, and wait a period of time to make sure I dont break out.
My plan: Since it's been taking about a week for me to break out, I will do half of my shot, wait a week, and do the other half.
So thats me. Allstar 20 years old New Hampshire Testosterone Enanthate 200mg State Date: January 6, 2009 My Transition Website Twitter The Mens Room- Best Site Out There YouTube |

having been on t for nearly 11 months, i have a question about a change that i did not anticipate: snoring. has anyone else started snoring after starting t? it was innocent enough at first, but now it's getting loud (or so i'm told). my partner came home from work a couple of days ago with ear plugs and breath right strips. yikes! am i turning into my father who used to keep my mom awake by snoring all night? anyone else experience this? if so, what has helped? |

[Mar. 18th, 2009|12:01 pm] |
i am 26 and started testosterone on may 1, 2008. i started on 25 mg each week and slowly increased to 100 mg each week. i feel that this dosing method has been and continues to be a great way for my body to get used to the hormonal changes i have introduced, and i never feel my levels change like some people describe. i have injected on my own since day one, except for once after i had surgery and didn't have full range of motion.
i have always liked reading posts for this community, but never felt like posting my own start date because my frame of mind around my hormonal transition is that i give myself permission for each week i inject to be the last week that i do. it took me years to decide to start t, and i don't id as a "male" necessarily. long story short, i decided to try t, and am very happy about all that has happened in the past 10 months. i don't foresee myself stopping in the near future, but am comfortable knowing that stopping is an option if i so desire.
i guess i say this all with hopes that maybe someone who is reading this community and wanting to hear different perspectives on ways to approach hormonal transition (like i did for so long) can know that the standard of injecting 200mg every two weeks is not the only way to go. there's more than one way to be trans and more than one way to transition (if transition, defined however you define it, is a goal of yours, which it doesn't have to be to be trans), and i appreciate that the community i'm in acknowledges that.
thanks. |

hey guys - the mod here! first of all, congrats to all of you who have started t recently :) then, i would like to remind you that in order to be added to the list you need to request it in your post. we haven't had new people on the list for a while (since last november), so it's getting thinner as the list is of people who have started t in the last year.
cheers!

| Struggling |
[Mar. 11th, 2009|03:14 pm] |
I am 30 years old, married to a very supportive woman, we have a daughter. I have been struggling with the decision to transition for 5 years. I have been running from my feelings since I was 4. I have been reading some of the more recent post in here and I feel like they summed up how I have been feeling for along time. I am now seeing a therapist and trying to settle these same issues. If i had T in my house right now i wouldnt take it, id look at it and put it back, i feel like im flip floping everyday with taking T. I want it so bad but im so scared of lossing my parents, making my daughters life more complitcated, regretting it afterwards (though i dont think it could be worse than now)... I guess Im jst reaching out to see how people moved past the fears and took the step.

| Colt's FTM Thesis Survey! Update |
[Mar. 4th, 2009|08:04 pm] |
Hey guys,
Based on preliminary results from the first study (over 500 guys, y'all rock!), I am now running a modified version of this study which is also looking into childhood gendered experiences (still has IRB approval). The new study is hopefully also easier to navigate. The good news for you is that if you wanted to participate, but were unable to because I closed the survey, you can participate now.
Even if you already participated, but wanted to re-take it or elaborate on your answers and want to be included in the new dataset (and yet another prize drawing!) you may participate again! Your participation will enter you into the drawing for the grand prize of $250. The results will be presented in the poster session at WPATH (formerly the Harry Benjamin Society) this summer in Norway!
http://www.hostedsurvey.com/takesurvey.asp?c=Transmen
So basically, if you've already taken the survey last month, please re-take it...and if you never got around to taking it the first time around, please take it. Thanks guys!
Please send questions or comments directly to me: ftmresearch@gmail.com
cross posted everywhere, please pass this around to your FTM friends |

Hey guys. My name is Charles. I went back a few pages to see if this question had been answered but I couldn't find it so hopefully you guys might be able to help. I started T September 5th, 2008. I was started off on 1cc of 200mg/ml T Cypionate every two weeks. Then it was reduced to every three weeks. Now it's been reduced to once a month. The last trough that I took showed a T level of 180. My doctor is happy with this. I'm the first FTM my doctor has ever treated. The doctors at the neighboring hospital who had more experience with HRT said they would not be comfortable working with an FTM but that they would instruct him based on my test results. I guess I'm scared he's not really sure what he's doing and I've never even met these people who are instructing him so I don't know what to think about them. I did some of my own research but it was not very conclusive number-wise as to the average T level of an FTM except that it should reflect normal male, which mine doesn't. I guess my question is does anyone in here think that sounds too low or do you think I'm in good hands? Thanks y'all. |

| | worried | ] | Hey guys, I have a question for all of you who inject or have in the past... I am concerned about my injection, which was over 24 hours ago. and now i have a lump under the injection site. it hurts a little if you apply pressure on it. is this normal or what ? it's also a bit red and slightly swollen. What does this mean? It feels like a knot in the muscle or something. Though it doesn't hurt to walk. I can walk fine without a problem. it's just the injection site looks weird and feels weird. Is this a serious problem i should be worried about? or is it normal to happen sometimes? This was my eighth (8) shot, and i don't remember this happening after the other seven (7) previous injections.Has any one had this happen before? and do you know what the cause was? |

| Hey :) |
[Jan. 21st, 2009|07:30 pm] |
Hey everyone,
A very happy new year to you all!
My name is Imogen, I live in Cambridge UK. I was born female and am happy with my body but consider my self Gender Queer. I came out as gay at 14 (nearly wrote 144!!) and have been with my partner for a number of years now.
I am a photography student in Cambridge and I am just about to go into the final term of my 3rd year. I have covered quite a few topics over the last three years including self harm, mental health, eating disorders and physical disability. You can see some of my work here: Flickr or my own web site here: Indigo Clouds Photography
This term I want to do a project surrounding 'Gender Queer' and 'Transsexuality'. So I am looking for people who might want to be involved in the project. I will be hoping to photograph a few aspects of the topic including things like: following someone through aspects of their transition, photographing people with their families, following people to Dr's appointments, visiting and photographing both home & work, doing some studio shots (including partners, with/with out make up, in underwear etc) .. For helping me out you would get a copy of your images on a disk, a copy of your favorite 5 printed up to A2 and many many thank yous from me!
Having dealt with subjects that are often unknown to family members or friends I am more than happy for people to remain anonymous. As you can see from my self harm images most participants don't have their face in the images. I would like for some of those who wish to take part to be able to have their face in the images, purely due to the nature of the project.
I don't have any money to pay those who take part but I could help with travel costs if people are on a low income and I am more than happy to provide accommodation in the form of the sofa in my front room!
Please feel free to contact me with questions, anything you might like to know. Also, feel free to pass this post onto friends who might not see it on LJ or even to other communities. I would also like people to take part in a survey that will be part of the final project so if you would like to receive that you can get in touch.
Finally, during previous projects people have contacted me suggesting that aspects of the project might be highlighting the 'wrong' parts of the issues. I warmly welcome this contact and can only understand the subject to a point with out this source of information.
My contact details:
E mail - Imogen.Jo@Gmail.com Mobile - 0754 99 33 030 LJ - New_Kinda_Freak
Thank you for reading, Kind Regards,
Imogen May |
