I made this pattern with my students in mind as a "next" step for class and as an example of how stitches can be combined to make patterns

"Hugs 'n' Kisses" Dish Cloth

“Hugs ‘n’ Kisses” Dishcloth

Rating: Easy/ possibly beginner

Materials:

~Lily’s Sugar and Cream 100% cotton worsted weight
in Cream (A), Light Blue (B) and Delft Blue (C), 1 ball each for tri-colour or
1 ball of Cream for single colour or colours of your choice.
~Size G hook
~tapestry needle

Gauge: gauge really isn’t that important in this project

Stitches used:
~Chain (ch)
~Slip Stitch (slst)
~Single Crochet (sc)
~Double Crochet (dc)
~X-Stitch (X-st)
~Eyelet Picot (picot)

Special Stitches:
X-Stitch (X-st):
Sk next stitch, dc in next stitch, going back to skipped stitch, yarn over, crossing over stitch just made, insert hook in skipped stitch, yarn over, draw through stitch, complete stitch as a dc, X-stitch completed. Repeat as pattern indicates.

Eyelet Picot (picot): sc in stitch indicated in pattern, ch 3, slst into the side of sc just made, eyelet picot completed. (It’s called “Eyelet” Picot, because, when completing the picot on top of the sc, the slst made on the side of the sc opens the stitch up creating an “eyelet”.)

NOTE: Instructions are for the 3 colour dishcloth, but it can be made with only 1 or 2 colours. For 1 colour, work the same, just don’t break the yarn at the end of every row. For 2 colours, label colours just as A and B and alternate following the same directions.

Instructions:

With colour A, Ch 27

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (26 sc)

Row 2: Change to colour B, ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), dc in next sc, ch 1, skip next sc, [dc in next 2 sc, ch 1, skip next sc] 7x’s, dc in last 2 sc (18 dc, 8 ch 1 spaces)

Row 3: Change to colour A, sc in each dc and ch 1 space across
(26 sc)

Row 4: Change to colour C, ch 3 (counts 1st dc), [X-st (see special stitches above) over the next 2 sc] 12x’s, dc in last sc (2 dc, 12 X-stitches)

Row 5: repeat Row 2

Rows 6-19: Repeat rows 2-5, Do Not finish off.

For edging:
Ch 1, sc in next 25 sc, 3 sc in next stitch for corner, working along the side, sc 27 evenly (hint: 2 sc per dc post, 1 sc per sc post), In the starting ch, 3 sc in 1st free loop of starting ch, sc in next 24 free ch loops, 3 sc in last free ch loop, working along the next side, sc 27 evenly, 2 sc in last sc, join with slst in 1st sc, Do Not finish off.

For Eyelet Picot edge:
Ch 1, picot (see special stitches above), in same stitch as joining,
[sc in next sc, picot in next sc] repeat around, slst in the sc of the 1st picot, finish off.
(optional hanging loop: before finishing, ch 9, slst in corner of dishcloth, finish off)
(58 Eyelet Picots, 58 sc)

Weave in all ends

I found your link posted today on a craft group I'm on. As I had done a square about 2 years ago called Hugs & Kisses I had to check it out. I immediately pulled out yarn and started the dishcloth. I have to say I love it. I'm just finished up the last round (picot eyelet round) of trim. I really loved the way it came out.

I do a stitch a week thing on one of my crochet groups and this week it just so happened to be the cross stitch. I explain the stitch, give sites where they can go to for pictorial or video help with the stitch and then list some internet pattern links for them to practice the stitch with. I just had to go and tell them to try this dishcloth!

Anyway I had to share with you how much I enjoyed your design. Have to go now but will be back! : )
