| I'm currently going through the comm, cleaning up tags. I've standardized all the character tags into firstname_lastname (e.g. john_sheppard); previously, some were the first name and some were the last name, and some characters had tags for both. So, when you post your recs, you'll need to type the character's first name into the tag box to get their tag to pop up!
See sidebar for list of all the characters and groups that currently have their own tag. Just drop a line if you'd like tags for any characters who don't currently have a tag of their own, but they should have at least a couple of recs to their name in order to justify adding a new tag. The "supporting" tag is useful for characters who rarely make an appearance in fic, like Chuck.
Remember you can rec either SGA or SG1 fanworks, and you can rec any sort of fanwork: fanfic, art or vids.
If you happen to notice a post that doesn't have an author tag, or a duplicate or misspelled tag, please leave a comment here, or PM me. :) Many writers use several names on different sites (me, for example!), and I'm trying to use their most common alias for all of their stories. When in doubt, if they're on LJ, I'm going with their LJ name. If you see a writer who's listed under duplicate aliases, or one who you are aware would prefer to be listed under a different alias than the one I'm using for them, please let me know! | |

| Title: The Right Thing to DoAuthor: tridgetRating:PG Characters: Sheppard, McKay, some team Summary: Colonel Sheppard struggles to come to terms with what he has done, what he believes he has failed to do. Why rec'd? Because it's a broken Sheppard trying to pull himself together and needing all the help he can get; a concerned Rodney having a hard time figuring out how to help Sheppard but trying no matter what; and a friendship story that makes your heart break for the boys and love them to bits. | |

| Title: Guest HousingAuthor: nineficsCharacters: team Summary: Written for cliche_bingo for the prompt Sleeping Arrangements. Why rec'd? This story is a cute and sweet and funny little dose of Team! | |

| Hi everyone! Did you know that stargategenrec is three years old as of yesterday? I want to thank everyone for keeping up the reviews and making this community work. You are all awesome. Just a few housekeeping items to address: 1.) Make sure you understand how stargategenrec defines gen and our guidelines on posting recs. All of this can be found on our profile page.2.) Please let us know if you are accidentally tagged under multiple author names. We will fix it so all stories written by you can show up under the same tag. 3.) If you notice any entries lacking tags, please let me know and I'll gladly fix it. Our main mod in charge of tagging is not available right now, so a few entries may have slipped past our notice. Other than that, keep the recs coming. Thank you for a great third year! | |

| Title: FirepowerAuthor: penknifeRating: PG Characters: Team Summary: How Rodney stopped worrying and learned to love his P90. Why rec'd: A wonderful story about how Rodney changed over the first two years of the expedition by looking at his evolving relationship and experience with guns. | |
|
| Title: New TraditionsAuthor: writerjcRating: G Characters: Sheppard, McKay, Teyla, Ronon Summary: What does the team have in store for Sheppard? why rec'ed?: A wonderful and sweet little friendship piece chalked full of teamy goodness. | |
|
| Title: Dr. ControllingAuthor: purple_ribbonCharacters: Rodney, Keller, John Summary (author's): "Don't argue with me, Rodney!" Why rec'd? This is short and cute and sweet, a little infirmary moment with Rodney, Jennifer and John. | |
|
| Title: A Walk on the Dark SideAuthor: Eildon Rhymer ( rhymer23) Rating: PG Characters: Sheppard, McKay, Ronon, Teyla Spoilers/Warnings Warning for unprovoked violence against the poor, defenceless fourth wall. Summary: Even in an evil mirror universe, things don't quite go according to plan. Why rec'd: Hilariously funny and totally wonderful! Team dork strikes again!! | |
|
| Title: Darkest Before the Dawn Author: wildcat88Characters: team, Kanaan Rating: PG-13 Warning: character death... with a caveat; hard to describe Summary: Some things have to be accepted; others have to be fought with everything you've got. A tragic off-world mission rocks Atlantis and shatters John. Struggling to pull the pieces together and move forward, he discovers he has one chance to set everything right. (~10,700 words) Why rec'd: The feelings of grief and guilt... and of love, are explored in a way that feels honest and real. Beautiful team story that shows the bond between them. I also liked Kanaan's characterization - even though he has only a few lines, he somehow feels more present to me here than he did on the show. | |

| Title: The Black LakeAuthor: tipper_greenCharacters: team plus Keller Rating: K+ Summary: Things go belly up (because they always go belly up) on a rescue mission to save an SGA team stuck deep underground and running out of air. (action/adventure; h/c; ~27,740 words) Note: Though this story is gen, there are a handful of lines that refer to a canon het pairing. The ship is not relevant for the plot though, and only in the background. Why rec'd: I was squeeing when I saw this posted, because, well, action-adventure teamfic-plus-Keller is one of my favorites. And I wasn't disappointed... this story put me in a great mood.:) This was written for sga_genficathon for the prompt The journey of a thousand miles sometimes ends very, very badly, and it's a great, creatively literal take on the prompt. The setting feels genuinely alien and very scary; there's a constant sense of danger that makes for a gripping read. I love the characterization: particularly Teyla and Jennifer get to shine (but the guys get plenty of airtime, too). The dialogue could come right out of the show, it's spot on. | |

| Title: CairnsAuthor: liketheriverrunCharacters: team Rating: T Summary: Forced into a native rite of passage, the team must each face life and death challenges along their chosen path. The only catch is that it's up to you to choose that path for them. Warnings: There is the potential for character death, but don't worry, you can always start over and try again if it happens. Why rec'd: This fic is a Choose Your Own Adventure story. It's really fun to read/play, and I'm boggled at the thought of how much work must've gone into it! I've already played a few variations, but there are still a lot of paths I haven't explored. (I managed to get my team to safety on my first try. ^^ I was less lucky on the second run...) | |

| Title: PossessionAuthor: coolbreezeRating: PG-13 Characters: John, Ronon, Team Summary: AU. Sheppard and the rest of his team travel to Sateda to strike up a new alliance in their fight against the Wraith, but not all is what it seems, and Sheppard soon finds himself fighting for his life. why rec'd? This is an AU, a "what-if" with the Satedan civilization still alive and kicking while the expedition is in Pegasus, and Coolbreeze does an awesome job fleshing the world and it's people out. It has political intrigue, fast-paced excitement, twists and turns but, most especially, pre-runner Ronon and Melena. It's a wonderful read that will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time. | |
|
| Title: Self-Sacrifice Author: Jem Rating:PG-13 Character: Rodney Summary: This isn't exactly Rodney's forte. He must convince a recalcitrant listener that some very important people are worth saving, when Rodney has never even articulated to them just how important they are to him. In other words, he must talk about his feelings. And the person he must convince is a very stubborn, very selfish scientist by the name of Rodney McKay . . . (written for sga_genficathon, Prompt: AU, Unsung heroes; ~6,000 words) Why rec'd:omgawesomesquee This is a really original, well-rounded story. It's got time travel (of a sort). It's got Rodney arguing with himself. And it touches on all kinds of interesting concepts. Great interpretation of the prompt! | |

| Title: The Choices That Damn UsAuthor: Jem Rating: PG-13 Characters: Teyla, plus supporting Spoilers/Timeline: Though an AU, reflects canon events and characters from all seasons. Draws on SG-1 canon as well. Warning: Overt and/or implied character death of AU versions of characters. Summary: In her last moments, Teyla Emmagen's memories flash back through the path that brought her here, through her discovery of her own identity and the gradual unspooling of the dark and monstrous truth behind the Stargate Program. Why rec'd: This story comes with the warnings 'character death' and 'fairly dark', which it is, but I urge you not to let that deter you... you'd be missing out on an excellent, intelligent AU. I don't want to tell too much about the story; suffice to say it's a chilling vision of the gateverse gone wrong. It's a story that bears re-reading; there's a lot of food for thought. The pacing and structure work really well, too. | |
