Why This Must Be Read: Ziparumpazoo does an amazing job with Bill's mental voice as he tries to fall asleep the night after Zero Hour. Perfect characterization and delightful humor is coupled with just a little wince at the realization that yes, even the "normal" scientists that work on the SGC have to deal with the insanely bizarre on a regular basis!

Short, sweet, and slightly zany: the perfect ficlet for Bill!

Bill blew out a sigh. This was silly. He'd been offworld dozens of times. Ok, not dozens. A few. Twice, actually.

In a few very short days, I will be posting an ADMIN post that will explain all the new changes in format. We will also be presenting the list for categories that will be moving to the 'other' category and any new ones that may be coming around.

At that point in time, we will also be adding a couple new 'rules'. Nothing extremely major, but please be on the lookout.

I would also like to send out a reminder about waiting until the last day or two of the month to post all your recs. It's not just one person doing it; it's more than one. So we're talking about two things: 1. We flood people's flists with recs instead of spreading them out over a month. You have 30 days (except in Feb), USE THEM ALL to post recs, not just the last day of the month. I'm asking nicely, but people have been complaining... so please, help me out. 2. It's easier on my volunteers (especially people doing memories) if they actually have the entire month to put entries into Memories. You wait until the end of the month; they have 1 or 2 days to put all the recs in Memories so that the people taking over the next month know what stories were rec'ced the month before. So please DON'T WAIT. Thank you!

To me the best part of crack fic is that it makes me laugh. I love the angst in this fandom, but sometimes I just want a pick me up and a smile, and... Flower Love! Even better? Sequels!

Why This Must Be Read: WHile this story takes place from Rodney's point of view and has lots more to it than just John, it is nonetheless an insightful look into how John is, and how the relationship between him and Rodney could be the most meaninful he has without it being sexual or romantic in nature.

Why This Must Be Read: Of all the 'oblivious John' stories out there, this is my favourite. John in this story is so perfectly plausible in how he falls into this relationship, and even more in how he finds himself totally unable to take himself out of it. The banter is great and the writing smooth, and this is a memorable view of how McShep could come about.

Why This Must Be Read: This was written for this year's McShep Match, and is my favourite story from among a truly excellent group of fiction. When I read this story, it stuck with me for *days*. Be aware - this story is a tragedy, and I don't know that I necessarily take the hopefulness offered at the end, but the writing is masterful and the story is one that will make you feel for everyone involved. For those readers like me who think that is the ultimate in storytelling, this will not disappoint.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a WWII AU told primarily in flashbacks as John meets Jeannie Draper, who has come to give him Rodney's mementos from the war. Both the present times and the flashbacks are impeccably written, and there is such tragedy and joy in the story that it to me is a must read for folks who love AU.

Why This Must Be Read: AU from "Trinity" - at Duranda, the universe ends, for almost everyone. John, Rodney, and Elizabeth are catapulted into an alternate universe and time, were they must learn to trust again. This is a *huge* story at over 175K words, but the developing of the relationships and the various psychological issues each of the characters endures is really well done. For myself, the bulk of the story (as good as it is) was just prelude to the last few chapters - which are just fantastic.

Why This Must Be Read: Enter a universe where DADT is maintained by the use of an implant that reads your mind and tortures you for bad thoughts, as well as bad deeds. All of the members of the Atlantis expedition were required to get them. This is a great read not only because of the interesting premise, but also because of the way the characters are driven to find ways of circumventing the technology.

Why This Must Be Read: I came across this recently, I think through a request on sgastoryfinders, and "Wow". This isn't a typical woobie or slavefic type story, instead following Rodney through several months of living on a planet where he's essentially an indentured servant in the engineering caste. The world wipes the minds of their convicted criminals and then puts them to work. It's a fascinating view into a potential culture.

It's also a gripping look at John Sheppard. The author gives John some special characteristics but they are logically arrived at, and more importantly we see John in several different modes, with the facade changing but the core being the essential John Sheppard. This is a great read.

(How did we get to Nov 30 so fast? I apologize for the upcoming spamming.)

Why This Must Be Read:

Here, the Atlantis expeditition faces an uncertain future, and some of the Pegasus Galaxy inhabitants decide to take extraordinary steps to ensure they remain. The impact the events have on individuals (John in particular) is wonderfully written, and both you and he are left unsure about what exactly is going on right up until the end.

If, like me, you only have a passing familiarity with the Atlantis characters, you can still approach this story with confidence; the premise and characters are written so strongly that the drama shines through.

Author's summary:

"No names," Rodney tells them, one more time. "And no dates -- I'm serious about that. No one can know what anyone else is planning." John learns the structures of life and death.

Why This Must Be Read: This is last of the recs I'm writing up from the 2009 J/D Ficathon, but read them all!

I have to admit, this was written to my request--so Aliens Made Them Get Married gave it a boost already, in my book. But. Maab does an outstanding job of keeping the boys entirely in character throughout, and provides plenty of note-perfect banter. Bonus Paul Davis, perfectly fitting in on a mission, as he does. There's a dash of drama, loads of humor, glimpses of protective!Jack, a perfectly imperfect "seduction," and really gorgeous sex. Entirely adorable.

Why This Must Be Read: A Sam whumping fiction written by the Arcturus who clearly reigns over that specific genre. Janet and the team must rally together after a mission goes horribly wrong and Sam is left to face the consequences. Based on the mission to Netu and the pure evil that was revealed in that episode, SG-1 and Janet must rely on their individual strengths as well as their love for one another to move forward. This is intense but reveals the depths of friendship and love that the team has for one another.

Why This Must Be Read: An optimistic series of life with Sam & Janet (and their extended family). If one accepts that stargates and aliens are a part of everyday life, then this story takes us to a place where their relationship is normal, healthy and incredibly positive in a world that would have us believe otherwise.
