melyanna got a silly idea and made the mistake of mentioning it to her friends, who are all a bunch of enablers. (She really ought to know better by now.) Then the next night, John Sheppard defended Elizabeth Weir's honor, and Mel had no other choice but to go forward with the crazy idea: Renaissance!Stargate. She soon conned angelqueen04 and miera_c into writing it with her (along with sache8 making the occasional guest appearance).
This AU is not exactly historical fiction. Trying to insert fictional characters and countries into the actual history of Europe was far more trouble than it was worth in the long run, so instead the authors have created a fictional world using concepts and events of the period to create a Renaissance-esque setting. The result has been quite a lot of fic ideas and a few hundred thousand emails thus far. (Thank goodness for Gmail.)
Unlike most of the other AU communities out there, this one is not an open AU, meaning that not just anyone can write a piece and post it. In fact, membership to the community is closed, though anyone may friend the community.
