stanfordwank, the officially unofficial community for those of us who like to watch, research, and often times publicly humiliate Aaron Stanford, our favorite tiny!angry!antihero. Because he knows what he's doing, and he'll put it in your mouth, Mr. New York Policeman. Or not. Or hopefully not. Because ew. But anyway, this is the place to be if you want access to the information other Stanford fans have dug up. And then some icons. And a hell of a lot of snark.
Bio:Tiny!Quirky!Stanford was born in 1977, in Westford, Mass., where he was a tiny!greasy!teenager who probably got picked on, but who also probably got a fair amount of action, because girls are into that sort of thing.
Anyway, young Stanford had a happy suburban life, which he shared with both parents and at least one brother (aside from some darker years, during which he drew anarchy signs with lighter fluid in the front yard and set them on fire, and was promptly sent to bed without his supper, the poor lamb).
He did a play about fucking horses in high school, and wanted to go to Julliard. But that didn't work out so well. So he went to Rutgers in New Jersey (which was also attended, at an earlier date, by that chick who played Ally McBeal, and is a school which is good enough to be mentioned when the question 'what is a good theatre school that I should go to' comes up), and got a BFA, with really good grades and everything. Even though I (Ashe) orginally thought he had an MFA, and I don't which part of my mind fabricated it, but thanks for that, mind, because now I feel stupid, and I'd pretty much rather feel anything else.
While he was there, he was in a lot of plays. Or maybe not that many. Considering it looks like Rutgers has what looks like somewhere around a ten show season. And he was in four, and then three at the London Academy of Theatre (which has no website that can be found, btw). Or actually, those are just the ones he lists on his resume. He's probably cut off some roles because a resume is supposed to fit on one page, so that it can be stapled on the back of a head shot. And Stanford has one of the worst headshots Ashe has ever seen. Here's hoping he's got a new one.
Erm. Sorry. Distracted. The whole point of that exercise is that Stanford was in Nicky Silver's Pterodactyls, which is one of the bleakest, most hilarious, most heartbreaking, best, and most absurd plays in the world. He was also in a lot of stuff that theatre departments are all about putting on, like Playboy of the Western World. And then there's something called Sid Vicious Does the Dishes, which no one has ever heard of, but, none the less, looks promising.
The rest, as they say--or, actually, most people don't say this, because it's a moronic cliche--is history. Which basically means that we don't really want to get into Third Watch (Tiny!Russian!Accented!Punk!Kid!Stanford!), Tadpole (which is good the first three times, but after that you just start poking holes in it), Hollywood Ending (it is not worth subjecting yourself to the ego and neuroticism of Woody Allen for Stanford), The 25th Hour (which is a bit part, but who really cares about Stanford once you start watching, because it's just that damn good, and also features Paquin(YAY!) and Cox and makes a comment about an X-men character, thus is too ironic for words), X2 (which is either brilliant or horrible, depending on whom you ask, but we bought it, and no one else's opinion matters), Rick (which you should see. NOW. provided you are over the age of 18.), Spartan (Mamet may be a theatrical genius or whatever, but before watching this, remember that you will never get that two hours of your life back. But YAY!Veronica Mars), Winter Solstice (which will be on DVD on September 13), Standing Still (featuring the guy who played Dawson, which has yet to have any distribution or contribution in major film festivals, and is rumored to really suck, but it looks kind of cool, so.. jury's still out on that one), Runaway (which contains Robin Tunney and a little kid, and is fucking bad-ass OMG), Live Free or Die (in which Stanford plays Rugged, and some poor (but paid) actress plays "Rugged's Woman"), or Flakes (in which Stanford plays "Neal Downs" *snork*, and we get our second Stanford-to-thank helping of Zooey Deschanel), or The Hills Have Eyes (I have no words), or X3 (fucking finally).
Addendum: If Stanford were given a chance to speak for himself (to quote The Chipmunk Adventure: In your dreams, tiny Tim.), we believe he would like to thank the Academy. Well. Not actually. He'd probably much rather thank his first love, velour, without which he would never have been able to remain humble. Because no one but J.Lo has an ego so large it can grow whilst encumbered in that much velour. And just to be kind, we're not even going to mention the taffeta. Or the ultrasuede. Or the fact that he wears burnt sienna.
Disclaimer A: If we didn't actually like the guy, we wouldn't have this community. So no "OMG, u are so mean to AAron Stamford. U R just jealouse, u meanie!!@" Don't hate, participate. We're just pulling his pigtails.
Disclaimer 2: Also, we do NOT know Stanford, have not met himyet, and are partially aware that our mis-guided forays into his inner-psyche are nothing more than obsessive fangirlishness. It may appear that we know everything about Stanford, but, the thing is.. We don't. We just have the internet. Where we, you know, look things up.
