SS/HG Awards on hiatus for summer, but ...
Round Three is coming soon!

We will begin accepting nominations for the post-DH round of the SS/HG Awards in August. Be on the lookout for future posts regarding new categories and asking for feedback from the last round.

In the meantime, [info]the_new_library is running their first round of awards at [info]tnl_awards. TNL recognizes new and/or underappreciated authors and fics fandom-wide.

:-D Thanks for the mention! We have lots of ss/hg stories in the round, so hopefully there'll be some good stuff for ss/hgers to read!

You're welcome! And maybe they'll see something else that catches their eye, too! :D

FWIW, I really wish you'd put the next round off for quite a few more months. That would allow first year WIPs to finish and for people to have more perspective and not just nominate/vote for the squee of the month. Also, with the last round, the TNL awards and QtP all so recent, I fear award fatigue in terms of participation. In Trek we had awards once a year--most fandoms do. IIRC, the Multifaceteds were more often than that, the QtP awards seem to be--but just how often do you forsee doing this? If yearly, then holding awards in say January for the fist post-DH year from July to July would make more sense to me.

Having them so soon in August does not.

I completely understand where you're coming from, and the timing of the next round may end up being one of those things that we put up for input from the community.

My plan has always been to hold the awards annually after round three. I wanted to get us caught up, so to speak, so that awards would be covering a year's worth of fics at a time, rather than several years.

I picked August with that annual timeframe in mind, so that we would have a fairly good distance from the OWL awards, which are always held in January.

I do like the idea of having there be a lag between the end of the time frame for eligibility and the beginning of nominations. It does provide time for reader's to step away from a popular fic and be more likely to vote on the fics merit rather than what is currently "hot."

It bears some thinking. There are just a lot of variables to consider.
