This was posted at <lj user="spoil_me_dh"> and I had to link it here: http://community.livejournal.com/spoil_me_dh/513721.html

This video has so much art that was first posted in our comm during the 'carpet book' days.  When I watched this video I kept think 'Oh Snap!" - lol.

It sucks that it's all over - I miss it.

There's something inconsistent about the UK adult cover of the Deathly Hallows when compared to the covers of the earlier books in the series. Let me go through them one by one:

1) Philosopher's Stone - the stone is there on the cover in all it's glory
2) Chamber of Secrets - and you have the entrance to the chamber right there
3) Prisoner of Azkaban - there's your prison (and I think they should have stuck with this image compared to the one in the OOTP movie which just sticks out of the ocean with no foundation/island to stand on)
4) Goblet of Fire - there's the goblet of fire
5) Order of the Phoenix - and you can see Fawkes right there, flying out of Dumbledore's office
6) Half-Blood Prince - you have the potions book which was doodled on by Severus P. Snape

But when we come to the last book, we have a picture of one of Voldemort's Horcruxes, the locket of Salazar Slytherin. But Book 7 is not entitled "Harry Potter and the Locket of Slytherin". Nor is it entitled "Harry Potter and the 6 Other Horcruxes". It's "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows". And there lies the inconsistency.

For the past 6 books, all of the adult covers pertained to or had some relation to the title; whereas for the 7th one you have no connection between them at all. It could've made sense if the Elder Wand was on the cover (and rightly so, seeing that it was quite pivotal throughout the series). Or if it was Gaunt's ring (which also made a debut in the last book). Dunno how they would've made the Invisibility Cloak appear though. Hehe.

Anyway, that's just me obsessing about trivial things. Your thoughts?

Since this community has died down a bit I wanted to invite you all to apply for another community I am proud to be a member of:

[info]hogwarts_elite. It's a sorting community. Don't let the word 'elite' scare you. If you love the world of Harry Potter and want to take your fandom to the next level then applications can be found at [info]sorting_elite. See you in Term 12!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

EDIT:  Here is the application for this Term 12.  Please read the Idiot's Guide to Sorting and the

[info]sorting_elite userinfo Proper Sorting Procedure.  It's very intense and intimating but I feel that the community is worth it.  ;-)

Here's my application and votes.  I was sorted last May (Term 11).  It's a good idea to read some past applications and votes to get a feel for what you need to do.

I guess by now you all might have heard about the French guy arrested for posting his own translation on the net.

Along with the "LJ purged my account" cry from whathisname who apparently posted a play-by-play, this is the second internet prosecution I've heard about. And yet these spoiler communities seem to be immune - hell, [info]spoil_me_dh was featured on the bloody login screen.

Has anyone on this comm been subject to the Heavy Hand of Rowling?

(You know, I don't think this is about copyright. This is about Rowling finally realising what a dog of a book she wrote.)

As I sit on Deathly Hallows longer and longer, more theories come to mind. For instance, the prophecy's "...power the Dark Lord knows not...." has always been presented by Dumbledore as the power of love. *warm squishy soft hugs* But couldn't the prophecy actually refer to Snape? I mean, had he not been involved, it's highly unlikely that Harry could have defeated Voldemort. He wasn't exactly getting anywhere with Ron and Hermione, was he? He had a horcrux with him, after all, and didn't figure out how to break it until Snape sent the Patronus to lead him and Ron to Gryffindor's sword. And Snape had managed to stay in Voldy's good graces long enough that Voldemort hardly even questioned him anymore. He assumed Snape's loyalty, and knew not of his plan with Dumbledore to bring him down.

As I write this, it occurs to me that Snape = Love in the eyes of the prophecy. He did everything for his love of Lily Evans, if not for love of her son. And Harry had so much other help, from Hermione, Ron, Dobby, the Order, McGonagall, Ginny, Luna, Neville- dear, sweet, awesome Neville- all of which stemmed from their friendship and affection for him. So really, it was love that saved the day- just not in the way I thought it meant, originally.

If you can't find me later, I'll be in a diabetic coma.

I mentioned this interview in some of the earlier comments, but I thought I'd post the actual thing. It's about everything JKR left out of the epi.

HIGHLIGHTS.
  • Harry and Ron are Aurors; Harry is head of the Auror Department at the Ministry.
  • Together the pair has "revolutionized" said department and the entire Ministry. "They made a new world." How touching.
  • Hermione is "pretty high up" in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.
  • Luna is a naturalist and traveling the world.
  • Neville's parents never recovered. =(
  • There is a completely new Headmaster and DADA teacher, that latter of which is now safe because Voldy's dying "broke the jinx that kept a Defense Against the Dark Arts professor from remaining for more than a year" WHAT.
  • JKR may eventually tell all in a Harry Potter Encyclopedia. (.......Seriously? Give it up.)

Well, I drew this picture of Seamus Finnigan a few hours ago and figured I'd share. It has to do with the 7th book. XD I don't claim to be a great artist, so be nice? :P Ummm...the story behind this. My friend and I were talking today about the book and got on the topic of Neville and how much he pwned. Well, I'm like Seamus is still my favorite character and asked "I wonder what he did to get beat up worse than Neville?" My friend's answer: He was wearing a "Dumbledore Rox!" shirt.

So I had to draw it! XD )

Considering how much he feared death and would refuse to make the great journey, I now present my ode to Hogwarts' newest ghost, NoNose!

"I, I whose followers were legion, who commanded beasts (stop that) of the Earth and rode the elements to my (STOP THAT!) foretold rise (Oi, pay abloodytention!), who ruled the wizarding world like (Stop throwing biscuits! Was that a Creevy!?) darkness setting upon the land will rise a-(I'm warning you....), will rise a-(Don't make me come down there!), will rise... OH SHUT-UP you snot nosed little blood traitors! I swear by the great basilisk of Slytherin if you throw one more scalloped potato through me I AM SO TELLING FILCH!!!!...you won't tell on me to the Baron, right kids?"

Or did anyone else think Lily Evans was kind of a jerk?

No, this in no way means to underplay the horribleness of Snape calling her that name. But the person who's been your best friend for years, while under a humiliating attack in front of a crowd of spectators, says something horrible for which he is immediately and desperately sorry and... you just dust him off?

There's no way his remorse wasn't coming off as real. And while the context doesn't excuse what he did, it's not like it wasn't a factor. And she got her own public humiliation back at him which he seemed, when apologizing, to completely accept as his own fault for having called her that (which I infer from the fact he didn't even mention it to guilt her back or claim they were equal).

On rereading that scene, I'm starting to think she'd been waiting for a chance to blow him off. She could've used his guilt to possibly win him back from the DEs (or at least tried to) but instead it was that's it, thanks for playing. Years of loyal friendship and truly genuine remorse (neither of which are overly abundant in the world) just aren't worth forgiving one heat-of-the-moment insult.

And years later, when she was willing to overlook James' and Sirius' behavior that day, did she also look him up and offer her old best friend the same fresh start? You know, the one person who actually apologized for what he did that day and didn't need years to realize it deserved an apology?

'It was a long time ago. Let's start over.' One moment of that from her might've brought him to spy for Dumbledore before hearing the prophecy.

The thing that really bothers me is I don't think Ms. Rolwing intended us to walk away with this impression. After all, the Mauraders sins were noble Gryffindor sins, and Snape's was an evil Slytherin one. And while all the houses are equal, some will always be more equal than others.

As pointed out to me by a friend ...

Borders (at least Down Here) was selling copies of DH with a free ... wait for it ... beanie owl.

Given Hedwig's pathetic demise, don't you think there are marketing people in the HP empire now looking on with horrified guilt as millions of little kids burst into tears, clutching their beanie owl, after reading the "escape from Privet Drive" scene?

Does my heart good, that thought ...
