spo_prevention is a community of knowledgeable animal lovers who seek to improve the lives of pets and their owners by offering sound, logical advice.

If you are here it is because you have knowledge to share or you are looking for help. We welcome you all and encourage you to present your questions and concerns.

Anyone who wishes to contact the moderators and experts, for any reason, is encouraged to do so by commenting to the open post in

prevention_team. Comments are screened for your privacy.

Rules, Guidelines and Notes:

-= If your animal is seriously ill or suffering, take them immediately and directly to a veterinarian.
-= Seeking advice on the internet is not in any way a replacement for the advice of a professional who can examine your pet in person.
-= By seeking advice with our members, you acknowledge the fact that those responding may have knowledge that you do not and are offering advice in the best interests of your pet.
-= It is advised to keep an open mind when considering responses to your post. The members, experts and moderators are often blunt and we love them for it.
-= Remember, it's your pet we care about, not you.
-= Do not expect pity. Do not expect coddling.
-= Do not expect us to accept lame excuses.
-= Do not expect us to accept what we find to be animal abuse.
-= Expect concrete advise and workable solutions to pet-related problems.
-= Expect any irresponsibility or ignorance on your part to be addressed openly.
-= If you do not like the advice you receive, take your problem elsewhere. Quietly.
-= If you are offering advice, prepare to be questioned. If you have a problem with that, don't comment.
-= If you are offering advice, and this advice is deemed dangerous to pets or their owners, prepare to be questioned. If you have a problem with that, don't comment.
-= If you cannot provide educational, informative or helpful advice, don't comment.
-= Posts disallowing comments or posts made solely for dramatic effect will be deleted and the poster gagged or banned.
-= Deleting posts or comments for the sake of dramatics is a bannable offense.

Consequences:

-= Warn: Cautionary advice preceding further action.
-= Gag: Temporary ban instated for a specified amount of time. Once a gag is lifted, participation within the community is permitted.
-= Ban: Permanent removal from participation within the community. A ban is non negotiable and non refundable.

Speciesism and breedism of any sort will not be tolerated. Comments bashing someone for their choice of pet will get you warned, and ignoring warnings will get you banned. That said, if it seems obvious that an individual's choice of pet clashes with their lifestyle, that will be addressed. Also, most countries have laws limiting pet ownership to certain animals. We advocate obeying the law and discourage the capture and/or harboring of illegal or wild animals.
