	What kind of FANART should I post/link/rec here? Drawings, Paintings, Photography, Sculpture, Paper Maché, Macramé (Metallicar pinata, anyone?), etc. What kind of GRAPHICS should I avoid posting here? Screencaps, Icons, Banners, Wallpapers, Manips ...? Aren't graphics fanart too? Yes, but there is a difference between creating an image and creating art. Mods have wrestled with the distinction for a long time and the definitions are still vague. Photos and manips are the most commonly debated, but we tend to agree that most images that rely heavily on photos from the show are considered graphics. Thus your photos, manips, or collages need to show manual creativity rather than software skills in order to be appropriate here. There are lots of existing places that showcase that category of fanart. We'd like to focus on art's more traditional medias. We don't want to discourage any form of fan expression, so when the line is unclear, we'll keep in mind our Mission: To set aside a space for artists to show their work, to inspire others to try new methods or media, and to give the audience some alternative ways of seeing and experiencing the characters and stories we love. Fandom is a celebration -- it's also a way to bring in new viewers, give thanks to the creators/crew, and share support for our favorite TV show (or at least, my favorite.) The bottom of this page has links to various fandom outlets for posting your non-art graphics, fanfiction, manips, squees, metas, and any other awesome stuff that ends up on spnnewsletter* anyway (and we love them for it!)

	What else can I post here? Obviously, feel free to post your art or links to your art. If you would like to rec someone else's, you should get their permission -- or better yet, invite them to join so they can post and interact with the other artists! We think the best and most active communities are those that stay flexible and allow the members to steer where things go. Your suggestions are always appreciated. In the future, we think it might be neat to have prompts, challenges, or a fest. Maybe people will want to share links to their best photo references or tutorials. Maybe we'll gather up some fanart and send it to the crew so they can see how much we love what they do. It all depends whether we have enough participation and interest, really.

	Is adult content allowed? coell is a gen-a-holic; cathybites loves teh slash/femslash; glockgal just wants to enjoy awesome art. We welcome all genres here, and to please all members, we ask that all incest or adult-themed art or links must be under a lock in this journal. This way only those who have agreed to see it will see it, and whether you lock it in your own journal is up to you (and newsletters will be able to rec you there.) If you want to see everything including Adult Content: JOIN the community. If you want to see minimal Adult Content: FRIEND or RSS the community.

	What about cross-overs, AU, J2, ASCII, furries, interpretive dance, etc.? Honestly, we don't care what you're into as long as it's legal and people are having a good time. If it gets overwhelming, we'll scale that back. We only ask that you be courteous to the fans who don't want to see it, hence our Lock Rule. Many specific tastes have dedicated communities and festivals, which we will happily add to our link list. Remember that potential new fans might wander in and we want them all to feel welcome. And as always, the actors and crew are real people whose works we enjoy, so be sure to respect their privacy. Perhaps they might enjoy our works too!

About Posting Here

1. We generally let people govern themselves here, so there aren't any hard rules for formatting. Your first post will be moderated to make sure you know how to format a good-looking entry, use lj-cuts or links when needed, and bring the right type of content. Adult art must also be locked. Once we see you get the gist, we mark you as unmoderated, so behave.

2. Please use a descriptive subject line for your post to help RSS readers, Calendar and Archive views, and bookmarks that show subject line text. Consider using the characters, description, and rating. For example: Art: Sam & Dean Portraits [G] or SPN_Fanart: "Keeping Secrets" (Sam & Ruby)

3. Please tag your entries, though if you forget or can't add a new tag, we don't mind.

4. Link or LJ-Cut your artwork. Thumbnails are appreciated. Please leave comments turned on in case the mods want to make a suggestion about formatting - we cannot edit your post for you. If you've added stories or paragraphs to your main post, you don't have to copy them here - we'll see your text when we see the art. Consider your post here an ad for your art somewhere else. If you're posting the full art here, put the notes under the art behind the lj-cut.
