If you're here, you're probably interested in writing. In fact, you've probably seen all those other writing communities out there with their weekly or bi-weekly or monthly fiction prompts asking you questions or dropping singular words or pictures out there and expecting you to do something with them in a timely manner. This community is kind of like that. Except it's not.

Here, once a week, you shall find posted a few fiction prompts, yes, indeed. However, these shall be no ordinary prompts at all. Yea, verily, these shall be spam inspired fiction prompts!

What on earth do I mean, you ask? It's quite simple:

I found myself, like everyone else with an email account, receiving junk (or spam) email. Every day. I found myself, likewise, bemoaning the fact that I was constantly receiving and deleting these emails I cared nothing for and were just a waste of my time. Then, one day, it hit me! Just make a writing community using snippets from your spam as the inspiration! "Eureka!" I shouted, and proceeded to enact the dance of joy within my cubicle at work, drawing strange looks from my co-workers. Once I sat back down, I realised that this was, in fact, not a bad idea and from there, this community was born.

If you would like to see more about the creation of this community, you may view
this post in Ana's journal.

  • You do not have to write for a specific character. You do not have to write "in-fandom". You are more than welcome to join and write original works.

  • Though this is a writing community, it is not just a fiction writing community. If writing a poem or an essay or a ficlet strikes your fancy, feel free.

  • Though there may be only one character at a time claimed, different interpretations of a character are permissible. Hence, if there is already a Batman from the Batman movies, it would be permissible to also apply for Batman from the animated series or comics (as long as you make this clear). Or, if a character has two different incarnations, this may also be permissible (ie. Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader would be considered two different people.)

These are the rules in effect as of June 28th, 2007.
These are subject to change as this community progresses and issues crop up.

  • Play nice. -- This is the most important rule of all. Be respectful and considerate and try not to whangst.

  • PLEASE CLEARLY LABEL ALL FICS WITH RATINGS "R" OR HIGHER AND PLACE THEM BEHIND AN LJ-CUT, FAKE OR OTHERWISE. -- This is the second most important rule, but only behind Play Nice. Otherwise this really is the most important rule. Hence the triple emphasis. Some folks don't like to read this stuff, so any help we can give them in regards to avoiding it will be greatly appreciated.

  • Post a prompt response at least once a calendar month. -- It doesn't have to be one posted within the past month, but it should be one you haven't already answered.

  • Feel free to apply for more than one character. -- Try to keep it reasonable. If I find people are applying for lots of characters that they aren't posting for, I will remove those characters and impose a limit on how many you're allowed to have.

  • No F-Locked Journals Allowed -- Those who have applied for the comm before June 28th, 2007 are exempt from this rule for the time being. Note well that when you send in your application, your journal is visited by the mod. If it is found to be F-Locked, your application will be declined. If your journal is public at the time of application review, yet is found to be F-Locked when we go through our list for maintenance purposes, you will be notified by email and asked to unlock the journal, or at the very least, unlock any community related posts. If you do not agree to those terms, then you will be asked to create a new public journal for comm use. If you still don't agree, then you will be removed. We're trying to help you out as much as possible, but if you won't work with us, then we'll have no choice but to take action.

  • You must post all prompt responses to the community. It isn't enough to just toss it up in your journal, it needs to be posted in the community, as well. Otherwise, we have no idea who is active and who isn't, and people who watch the community won't be able to find your work, since the tag will be empty!

That's it, for now. Please don't make me have to add more.

This is the application process in effect as of March 16th, 2007.
This is subject to change as this comminuty progresses and issues crop up.

Please fill out one of the following applications. Make sure you are using the correct application, there are THREE to choose from depending on what you want to write!

The applications are as follows:

Click For Original/Non-Fandom Writing

Click For Specific Characters

Click For General Fandoms/Pairings/Groups

This is one thing that goes no matter which type of application you're going for: once you decide on what/who you're applying for, LOG-IN to the journal you'll be using for it and click the 'join community' link. You will be approved so long as what you're applying for (if not original writing) is not already taken.
