GTC's RENT opens tonight!

Friday (today) at 5 PM PST, Saturday at 1 PM and 5 PM PST, and Sunday at 5 PM PST.

We now have a schedule for Rent!
Schedule
If you know walking into auditions that you will have to miss, in whole or part, more than two events (rehearsals and performances), please don't audition.
Auditions Sat Sept 27th, 5 PM PST, expect to be there about 2 hours (hopefully not more). It'll be group auditions -- if you haven't been at group auditions before we basically assign auditioners parts and throw them in scenes with a mix of other auditioners and experienced GTC actors and throw out directions and run scenes a la rehearsal and see how people do. For an idea of what we'll be looking for, check out our auditioner's guide video. Don't copy and paste your lines. (We have reasons for this)
We will be performing a truncated version of Rent (as it is on stage, not the movie) which you can look over here (there's a link to the second act at the bottom). When performed at a good pace it should fall under 2 hours.
Don't show up to auditions if you don't intend to audition, or it's too hard for us to keep track of who we're calling up to audition and who we aren't. If you're concerned about knowing what auditions or GTC is like, consider just jumping in and auditioning -- if you don't get in, you'll then get an idea of what to improve on next month, and if you do get in, whether in a big role or small you have a chance to gain experience and possibly have a better chance at roles you want in the future.
Everything depends on audition turnout, but if I get more people than I need I'll be looking for either 10 or 12 total cast members -- the 8 big characters and then 2 or 4 understudies who will trade off playing the single ensemble role (so everyone gets to participate in at least one performance for sure). At auditions everyone will get a chance to share their preferences in casting (which can be as specific as "I really want to be Roger" to "I'd love to play a guy" or "I'd love a character that isn't on stage a lot" ). Preferences are not at all guaranteed and we expect that everyone at auditions will be willing to carry through with whatever role they're given.
Rehearsals will be Tues Sept 30th and Thurs Oct 2nd and then dress rehearsals Sat Oct 4th and Tues Oct 7th.
Finally, performances will be Friday Oct 10th (5 PM), Saturday Oct 11th (1 PM and 5 PM), and Sunday Oct 12th (5 PM) (all times PST)
All events take place at The Sphere Theatre (58 Barton 001221) starting at 5 PM PST unless otherwise specified and are expected to last about two hours.

"bare" unfortunately was canceled because of the bad auditions turnout and it was generally agreed that it's best just to wait and focus on Rent. It's not everyone's mind now anyway, so it's a good way to get some publicity going.

Also, head over to the thread and answer our poll on how we should arrange performance dates for Rent. Rehearsal dates will go like always -- going every other dayish between auditions and performances. It's easier to chop off rehearsal at a clean two hours if people need to leave than performances where we... you know... can't. So perhaps moving performances to a weekend-ish would be less stress (and also might bring in more people).

Auditions for bare are in about an hour! This month, unlike previously, I'm waiting until later today to start script revisions, so I can work out the show to work best with the number of people I think have potential from auditions -- unlike last month where so many people were turned away, I'd like to get as many people involved from now on as possible -- let people who are willing have smaller parts and be understudies so they can work on the skills I didn't feel they had in auditions and have a better chance at being in the roles they want in the future.
One of last month's goals was quality. One of this month's goals is fun -- how can we keep GTC from turning into a chore? :)

September show has been announced:
bare: a pop opera
(I think it's just calling itself "bare" right now but I don't really have an preference either way...)
In the next day or so I'll get all official info up. Think Friday and/or Saturday audition days.
I start school tomorrow and so do a lot of other GTCers, so s'luck to you and don't let any GTC worries flutter about your head over your first couple days -- leave that to me :P

GTC will present its first performance of In the Heights tonight at 5 PST at The Sphere Theatre (58 Barton 001221).
We will also be presenting the show on the 19th, 21st, and 23rd. Lag gets BAD on opening night, so if this is a fear of yours, try coming to the middle performances (19th and 21st).

The GTC presents its adaption of this 2008 Best Musical Tony award-winning musical set in modern day Washington Heights following three days in the lives of some of its residents.
Schedule
Audition Day: August 3rd.
Callbacks Day: August 4th
Rehearsals: August 6th (act one), 8th (act two), 11th (Understudy and additional rehearsal) 13th (dress), and 15th (dress).
Performances: 17,19, 21, 23
All events take place at The Sphere Theatre (58 Barton 001221) starting at 5 PM PST.

For August, we are allowing any of the following people to skip auditions. PM Arqueete stating that you want to be considered in casting and list off any roles you're particularly interested in. You'll get a PM back if we want you to come back in at callbacks.

NEW ACTORS AND ACTORS NOT LISTED ABOVE:
This month we are having a workshop audition of sorts where we will demonstrate certain GTC concepts and then have auditioners try them, then afterward we will pick out auditioners who a) get along well with others b) learn the techniques quickly and c) learn them well to come to callbacks and be put in a role. This audition period should take no more than an hour and will take place at 5 PM PST on August 3rd. If you are called back you are guaranteed a role in the show. COME JOIN US. We're always eager to welcome in new actors who will contribute positively to the company.
Please do not audition if you know you will miss more than two rehearsal/performance days. Actors must attend at least one dress rehearsal before they will be allowed to perform and we reserve the right to remove actors from the cast if we feel their attendance is too poor.
