Spectrum Press Release [May. 23rd, 2006|02:58 pm]

eddyfate
EDDY WEBB AND SPECTRUM GAMES PART WAYS

After a fruitful four-year tenure as Spectrum Games' Vice-President, Eddy Webb is stepping away from the company.   It is an amicable split with no hard feelings.  In fact, Eddy and Spectrum President Cynthia Celeste Miller remain great friends.

"This was a very hard decision," says Eddy, "because my time with Spectrum has been so fantastic.  However, both my personal life and my creative interests have been moving into a different direction than RPG design and writing.  However, gaming is still a very large part of my life, and I suspect that I'll get the itch again at some point down the road.  Now, however, I have different priorities."

The door is always open for Eddy, should he decide to return to Spectrum in the future, something which he says is indeed a possibility.

"Eddy has been such an asset to the company since he was hired in 2002.  I honestly can't even begin to tell you how much work the man has done.  You won't find a harder worker, a more devoted Vice-President, and a more loyal friend anywhere in the world than Eddy Webb.  His value to Spectrum cannot possibly be measured.   So, I'd like to take this opportunity to personally thank him for everything he has done.  His contributions will be missed."

Thanks to [info]karohemd, people wanting to play Midway City LARP or just look like their characters can shop for the best clothing.

You can either be a passive Mob or Triad supporter, or shop for the finest in gangster clothing, and the latter is even fully sanctioned by the Regulation Division! Is that keen or what?

More Beans - What we're up to [May. 9th, 2005|02:13 pm]

eddyfate
So now you've seen what is probably our major announcement for our flagship line, Cartoon Action Hour: Season 2. We've been tossing around projects and ideas for some time now, and we'd like to give you a heads up on just a few of the things that we have going on here at Spectrum.

Tomorrow Knights: Our second complete RPG release, Tomorrow Knights is currently in layout. It's also an "M&M Superlink" product, so you can use it with Mutants and Masterminds as well.

Cartoon Action Hour Supplements: Cynthia is currently working with some outside talent to come up with some great sourcebooks for CAH. First is Saturday Morning Slugfest, a sourcebook detailing more traditional superhero cartoon series. After that is an awesome Omlevex/Metal Wars crossover adventure called Mecha Exodus, about an underwater city of transforming robots. We're also working with CAH super-fan Norbert Franz on a fantasy book for CAH that promises to be very exciting.

Midway City: Our next major RPG release, this noir-cyberpunk thriller is tentatively scheduled to release at GenCon Indy this year (mid-August 2005). If you've seen Sin City, you have an idea of the kind of action possible in Midway City, plus a whole lot more. I'm going to be moving over to focus on this game line more fully, while Cynthia focuses more on Cartoon Action Hour (although we'll both be contributing to both lines).

Streets of Blood: Another project early in the design phase is a crime drama RPG based on Chad Underkoffler's amazing PDQ system, used in Dead Inside.

One Night Stand: I also have an idea in the early stages of development of a line of RPGs designed to be picked up and played in one night, for times when your normal gaming group can't meet, when you want to game at a convention, or you just have a few hours to kill. Details are pretty up in the air at the moment, but we have over a dozen game ideas that would work well with the ONS line.

Kayfabe Old School: A long time ago Cynthia wrote a sourcebook for Matt Gwinn's excellent wrestling RPG Kayfabe covering the early years of wrestling. However, we don't have the resources to release this as a "for pay" PDF, so in the near future we're going to release a "raw" version of the manuscript as a free PDF from our site.

A lot of this is in various stages of design, and it's always possible that the future might cause projects to be postponed or reluctantly killed off, but we wanted to let you know that we have a lot of things on our minds, and plans to really expand Spectrum beyond "that company that makes that cartoon game". Keep your eyes open for more!

Tomorrow Knights Press Release [Feb. 5th, 2005|09:40 am]

eddyfate
TOMORROW KNIGHTS TO INCLUDE M&M SUPERLINK WRITE-UPS

Z-Man Games and Spectrum Games announce today that their upcoming RPG, The Tomorrow Knights, will include an appendix that offers M&M Superlink stats for all the characters, gear, weapons, vehicles, and battlesuits.

According to Z-Man Games President, Zev Shlasinger, "The Tomorrow Knights setting presents a unique and rich tapestry of cyberpunk-style goodness. It has so many cool elements that we wanted to share it with as many gamers as we possibly could. We had a lot of fun with M&M Superlink when we worked on Omlevex, so it seemed logical for us to go that route again."

The Tomorrow Knights is based on the comic book series of the same name, created by co-writer/artist Roy Richardson and co-writer/artist Rod Whigham and produced by Marvel's Epic Comics imprint in the early 1990s.

The game is set for release in April of 2005. Chivalry lives... for a price!

New Direction [Dec. 15th, 2004|12:28 pm]

eddyfate
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Parsons, Kansas
December 15, 2004

SPECTRUM EMBARKS ON A NEW DIRECTION!

New Years is just around the corner, which means that change and a sense of renewal is in the air. This is especially true for us here at Spectrum Games. Our 2005 business plan promises several changes for our fans.

First of all, we’re recommitting ourselves to the PDF market. We still have two hardcopy products (Tomorrow Knights and Midway City) being released in the year to come, but our main focus will be on electronic games and sourcebooks. Even though we love having our products sitting on game store shelves, our PDF products offer us a wider profit margin than their hardcopy counterparts at this time. This does not indicate that we will never release further print books (I’ve learned that the word “never” usually leads to “foot in mouth” syndrome), but for the time being, expect to see a larger amount of electronic material.

Secondly, AFTER THESE MESSAGES (our e-magazine) will be discontinued in favor of full-blown sourcebooks and the like. We’ve simply been so busy with all our other products, that our progress on ATM issues has been slow and almost non-existent, keeping us from producing it in a timely manner. We feel our customers deserve better than this. Releasing sourcebooks rather than dealing with the pressures of a periodical e-magazine is, we believe, a step in the right direction for us as a company.

Currently, we have several e-products for CARTOON ACTION HOUR in the works, the first one being STAR WARRIORS (the space opera Series Book that was originally to be published as a print product). We’re hoping for an April release date. The second CAH e-product will be a rather radical departure from what we’ve done thus far; it’s a book that deals with playing and running games of the cartoon superhero variety. It will contain several ready-to-run series, loads of advice, and much more. The third e-product could best be described as a cartoon fantasy tool kit. If you want to play CAH in worlds of swords, castles, dragons, and high magic, then this book is for you!

More products will be announced at a later date, but we’re confident that our fans will enjoy what we have in store. This new direction will strengthen Spectrum Games and help us ensure that we’ll be around for years to come.

President, Spectrum Games

Major news update [Aug. 11th, 2004|05:51 pm]

eddyfate
It's been a while since I've updated this blog - my apologies for that.

The biggest news at the moment is that we've added a lot of new material to our various websites. Check out the Spectrum page for a list of what's new.

After much debate it has been decided that the Tomorrow Knights RPG will have the same system as our other sci-fi game, Midway City. This probably doesn't mean much to you now, but this system does resemble the Cartoon Action Hour system, with a lot of changes to make the game grittier and more realistic. The initial playtesting of the MC system has been extremely positive, so we hope you'll be pleased with it!

Star Warriors, the newest Cartoon Action Hour space opera series book, is looking great! We're putting the finishing polish on the manuscript, and the art is rolling in. The cover is being done by the ever-talented Eugene Perez (who has done all of the previous CAH books), and the interior art looks like it came right off of an animation cel. We're hoping to have that in stores by October.

In case you haven't heard, Omlevex has been nominated for a whopping three Ennie awards. Voting is open, so go vote for your favorite fictional Silver Age comicbook company. ;-)

One of the reasons the Spectrum team has been a bit behind (besides convention season and my medical leave) is that we've been asked to work with other talented game designers on the upcoming WWE RPG Know Your Role!. This OGL-based game should have you bodyslamming your way to the top in no time! It's due out this Christmas from Comic Images, and you can bet your ring ropes that [info]cynthiacm and I will be busting our behinds to make this the best game it can be!

That's all the big news for now - keeping reading for more!
