Understanding
Haru stared at him. Yuki stared back. "What?" Haru looked at him curiously.
Yuki swallowed hard. One chance. Gathering up his courage, he blurted out in a rather un-Yuki-like manner, "I'm not gay."
There was a pregnant pause. "Excuse me?" Haru asked, confused. Yuki stared again, trying to interrupt his reaction. "Excuse me" as in are you out of your mind, or as in what did you just say?
Yuki sighed. Looking Haru straight in the eye, he started once more, his tone slow and even. "I'm not g—"
"I know you're not," Haru replied, cutting him off.
Yuki blinked. "B-but I... you... that..." Yuki pathetically tried to explain. Haru leaned down and captured Yuki's lips. The string of rambling stopped.
Yuki moaned, half-protesting Haru's forwardness. "It's okay," Haru whispered gently into his ear. "I understand." His lips brushed against Yuki's again.
He mentally noted that his lips were tugging upward as Haru continued to kiss him senseless. Even if no one else did—not his classmates, not Akito, not Shigure, and not even Tohru—Yuki was glad Haru understood.
owari.
End notes: I remember in this one fanfic, one of the characters got mad at his lover for saying they were gay. His reasoning was that being called gay was an insult, and had nothing to do with their relationship. They were in love, together, and that was it. No label needed.
I thought that was an interesting idea so I tried to put it forward in here. Yuki is, if you take "excessive chain" in the sense of a theme rather than a motif, extremely burdened by the ideals society forces upon him: aka being normal. Even canonically so, when it comes to terms with him being the rat. Because of this, he needs acceptance from others. It's very important to Yuki that Haru does understand this about him, not being "gay", because then he can step away from it. =) So Yuki can be free to love Haru in the way he wants.
[edit] On a very random note, did you know Understanding is an Evanescence song? *points to current music*
