The Effects of Practical Gardening

Though not many people knew, Souma Yuki was rather the practical type of person.

Yuki disliked dressing in lavishly decorated clothing or attracting any unneeded attention to himself, unlike his brother.

He did not do waste any effort on unnecessary things either, from his student council paperwork to getting up especially early in the morning. Even his garden reflected this side of Yuki--well-tended for, healthy, and only full of vegetables.

Of course, that isn't to say Yuki disliked flowers. He thought they were lovely, but truthfully, they really served no other purpose than being aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Vegetables were not as beautiful, of course, but they could be cooked (not by him) and eaten--they served a greater purpose.

Souma Yuki was a practical person. So he did not plant flowers. Or at least he didn't intend to.

Staring out into the courtyard from the roof of his school, Yuki mentally made a list of things he -did- intend to plant in his garden. He would be stopping by the nursery after school today to pick up supplies for the upcoming spring.

The only door leading to the roof opened, breaking Yuki's train of thought. He turned slightly to glimpse who had come to join him. Seeing who it was, Yuki then turned back and continued his planning. A few moments later, he was joined by Haru.

Haru kept quiet for a few minutes, joining him in his silent observation of the people below. Then, he absently asked, "What are you thinking about?"

Yuki smiled slightly. "Nothing really. Just about what to plant in my garden."

Haru nodded silently and then trotted off, leaving Yuki alone to his ideas again.

After the last bell rang, Yuki gathered up his books. Before leaving the classroom, he told Tohru that he would be leaving alone because he was heading of the nursery, so she would not be worried.

On the way out, Yuki indulged in deep thought to make sure he didn't forget anything on his list. Preoccupied, he did not notice Haru, who was in front of him.

Haru had been holding a flower when Yuki ran into him. When they crashed, Yuki's lips accidentally brushed against its soft petals.

"Ah, Haru!" Yuki blushed. He turned even redder when Haru held out the flower, indicating it was for him.

"Gardenias." Haru remarked. "You should plant these flowers. They're nice."

Yuki smiled as he took the flower from Haru's hand. "Thank you, Haru." Yuki tucked the flower neatly into his front pocket so it was visible to everyone. He mentally added another item to buy as he headed to the nursery.

The next morning, Yuki got up early and planted gardenias in his garden.

Wow. You really love paragraphs, don't you? ^~

The story's amazingly cute though. Makes me feel all springy, although depressed that it sort of snowed today. (In March! o.o) But god it's cute, or maybe I'm all hyper from watching PoT. Nah, your oneshot is definitely adorable. ^^

Yes I do. XD But better than everything clumped together.

I love Haru/Yuki. They deserve to be cute. And I think the TeniPuri did get to you. *pats* You're finally watching it again! =D

Aww, cute! Nice job keeping them in character! I really am fond of Haru/Yuki, but it really bothers me when they are really ooc. You kept them in character so that's good. The story isn't really "long" but it doesn't feel like it was rushed, you know? I like it. ^_^; Good job!

I'm glad you liked it. I hate oocs too, so I painstakingly try and keep my characters as canon as possible (or at least what I try to tell myself).

I'm horrible at writing long fics. My average is probably about 500 words, but I do try to make the best of those 500 words or so. Thank you for reading.

Aww, that's so cute. I know the previous commenter people both said the same thing, but... it really is cute, and I can't think of any other way to describe it. Also, I love Haru/Yuki, but haven't been able to find much good fic for them, so... this makes me happy. Yes.

*blush* I'm sure there's plenty of good fanfics out there, and you just haven't been able to find them. I'm not really that good. Thank you for reading.
