-Asuka and Anya push each other around as they fight for the quaffle to score
-Tieria breaks them up unintentionally with a misplaced bludger
-Matt is hit on the head by said stray bludger
-Minato scores a goal as Toshiro shouted at his team and got distracted by Agito taunting him
-Ahiru thinks she sees the snitch and goes after it
-Rita sees this and hits a bludger at her which is deflected by Junpei
-Anya scores a goal and Asuka accidentally knocks her into a goalpost as the actual snitch shows up
-Fiver and Ahiru race for it, but Ahiru is grazed by a bludger and spins out
-Fiver catches the snitch

Guys, let's talk about fourth-walling for a second:

Don't do it.

Just because something is known oocly doesn't mean your character would know about it before it's announced in-character or before the effects are gone (or even after considering I don't think some can think beyond "COOEY! That was weird!"). That's going into god-modding territory there. Just a little bit of clarification there before all your little derps start spazzing out in their journals.

Now that it's December you now have license to talk about Christmas. Or Hanukkah. here's another monthly reminder about the permanent HMD post we have. So if you're new or have picked up a new character since the last time we reminded you about this or just want to give some extra crit, pop by for a while.

OKAY, SH-ER'S. IT'S OFFICALLY CHRISTMAS SINCE HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS WAS JUST ON! Seriously, it's a classic and it's one of the shows that you need to see to feel the spirit. I also work at the mall so I get a big in take of Christmas now. Eggnog latte's help too.

SO, aside from my spreading the seasonal joy, I'm giving you guys a heads up on all the events for the month. December is busy because of the holidays, school or for whatever reason. So this way you guys have time to do plots and such.


December 7th - 8th Event that shall not be given details on. There will be a lot of going "ffffffffu-" though.

December 14th Quidditch Auction. If you're on a team, you're getting sold.

December 16th School Play.

December 17th Holiday Dance. You got sold? Guess what, you're someones date to the dance too.

December 19th FIRST DAY OF WINTER BREAK. They go home on the train this day if you're sending them home. You can't catch a later train home or an earlier train back.

December 20th - 31st The Twelve Days of Christmas. Twelve Days, each with a different surprise.

January 4th School starts again.

Okay guys, time for a cracky, fun filled sign up event! It's not an event per say.

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is proud to present Hagbeth Hoffenstuffs rendition of THE NUTCRACKER AND THE MOUSE KING. It will be preformed before a public audience and all proceeds shall go to widows and orphans.

Yes, we're doing a school play. We wanted something Christmas-y but with a lot of fun and crack potential. Nothing says cracky fun like sugar plum fairies!

The play will take place December 16th, three weeks from now, and right before the school goes to winter break. It's going to be run by Maron and The King of All Cosmos. Nothing says epic play times like Creativity like the mind of King.


There are two ways your character can participate in the play. Willingly and unwillingly. Willing characters can "audition" and will be assigned a role. The unwilling can be tricked in to joining and assigned a role.

ALL ROLES SHALL BE DECIDED BY THE MODERATORS. WE'RE AIMING TO MAKE THIS FUN AND CRACKY AND RANDOM PICKING IS THE IDEAL WAY TO GO.

SO! if you'd like to have your character get suckered in to embarrassment, just sign them up before December 4th! Roles will be announced ICly after the cut off.

Here's post one of two for events today!

This one is about the opposite event that starts tomorrow and lasts for three days. It's your basic opposite personality switch type event so there isn't really much to explain, there are however a few rules for this event.

1. Don't post anything until 9pm PST. That's the earliest anyone on the continent of North America should be posting since it counts as Midnight EST. If you live overseas then you can post whenever it's midnight of later for you.

2. Keep you opposite IC. If you don't understand that, it basically means to keep what you have them do the opposite of their IC. Not just doing something cracky and fun. If your character doesn't eat peanut butter normally, have them eat peanut butter.

3. Unless it's IC for your character to be a prude and not put out, no one should really be turning in to a hussy.


Annnnd that's about it! There will be a second event post up shortly for a December event.

Event post time!

So from November 16th to 18th there will be the Fairytale event! For those three days your character will think that they're in a fairytale!

For this event you can pick from the friendly fun versions or some of the original slightly bloodier versions. No fairytale booty call versions though. This also includes fairy tales from the Harry Potter canon. If you've read the last book or the Tales of Beedle the Bard, you'll know what I mean.

After the event is over your characters will remember of course and be all "fffffft castle," but for those who play Purebloods or students raised in a completely Wizarding household, they will not know about muggle fairy tales at all. They would have been raised to know stories from Beedle the Bard. Same goes for Muggle kids, they would be confused if they ended up playing something from a canon fairytale.

Please try to use some canon fairytales too, I know that the muggle ones are a lot more fun, but try to consider a canon one if you have read the Tales of beedle the Bard book.

Hey all! Mozart here having to put off studying due to relatives visiting and unexpectedly staying over FOREVER 8| to announce the event tomorrow.

SNAKES ON A HOGWARTS

On November second there will unexpectedly be snakes...EVERYWHERE. Falling from the ceiling like frigging earwigs or popping up in unexpected places, like your breakfast, your drawers and even in the loo!

Why is this happening? Well, a year ago when Death Eaters first attacked Hogwarts, one of them turned the party favors into snakes. This spell got stuck in the magical atmosphere of Hogwarts and now Hogwarts has decided that it no longer wants that mess and is throwing it up all over the place.

Thankfully, though, they're non-toxic (though it will definitely hurt when they bite), this will only last for a day and they'll disappear after that.

Also, the first of our monthly reminders, our permanant HMD post is still around for anyone who picked up new characters or recently joined us or for anyone that wants to do some extra critiquing.

So... there was supposed to be an event for today but fail over took time. HOWEVER, it's not too late to say that all students, even first and second years are allowed to spend their Halloween in the village. First to Third years have a curfew of 11:30 and Fourth to Seventh years have a curfew of 1:00am.

AIN'T NOTHIN' BUT MAMMALS

Now that you've had time to get that godawful song out of your head, let's explain what this day (or rather, weekend) is about. From the 22nd to the 25th, your pets are going to be looking a bit more human than before.

You know what that means, awkward naked times as only a cruel person would put their pets in clothes while they're animal-shaped, pets babbling out alllll your secrets (as they wouldn't think to have a filter between their brain and their mouth) and



BOOBSQUISH! :D

And before you're all inevitably distracted by being squished, Quiddy inputs are due on midnight of the 22nd, so GET THOSE IN before your pets distract you.

Life, school and work have hit the mod team hard this year, so we are opening up applications for a new Moderator. Quidditch season is starting! The first match is on October 28th and it's Gryffindor vs Slytherin! It was originally supposed to be for next weekend but we were late getting this up. Players have until 12am October 22nd to give us the input.

OKAY! We got a canon type event that starts this friday!

CANON ABILITY EVENT!!!


That's right! We've had canon memory events, but nothing with powers they originally had! We are limiting it to one ability per character. If your character has a god modding ability, you can't use it on just anyone, make sure you clear it with the other mun.

Not all characters have powers, that's why we're saying abilities. Abilities are a bit broader in terms of what they can do. Your character is a genius in canon? Suddenly Friday through Sunday, they may notice that they seem even smarter, small details like that are good for this event.

If you're not sure about powers to use, ask around and see what people think. Some characters have more than one power and it's too hard to pick. I know I want to find out what you guys think about what I should do with Mr. Oh HALE no. Sparkles or emotion manipulation?


ALSO; if there is anything specific you guys want to happen around Halloween, now is the time to start mentioning it.

Do you like Character Development? And finding new ways to get inside your characters head? Well then this is the post for you! This is sortinghat_rp's permanent How's My Driving Post. It's easy to take part, just follow the numbered list to character development and growth!


1. Comment with your personal journal first with what you go by in the subject line. Reply to that comment individually with all your characters. Character name MUST be in the subject line, how you list the name, series and journal name in the comment is up to you.

2. Be open minded, no one is above learning to be better, not even the mods.

3. Give some constructive criticism! Do it in journal or anon. Absolutely positivity no bashing and being unhelpful.

4. It's up to you to let people know what you think. This is your chance to tell people what you think of how they're playing, Even if you don't know the series, you can tell a player how you view the character based on how you've played them and they can compare it to canon.

5. This is NOT MANDATORY. It is however, HIGHLY encouraged for everyone to participate in. If you have your own HMDing post, feel free to link to it here.

6. This is a permanent post, there will be no more HMDing posts after this. We will however give reminders once a month about it. This isn't a meme though, it's here forever, critique when you have something to say.

Event announcement!! For those who were here around this time last year, we had an Auction where characters could bid on the Quidditch team players. Now why should we exclude HoH's and Prefects from being sold like cattle?

Now's your chance to bid on them! Next Friday, Hogwarts will be selling them for money that will go towards bettering the library of Hogwarts.


1. There is going to be a cap on how much a character can bid. Your characters family may be Bazillionaires but your character is under 17 [If a student] and has an allowance.

Students: 20 Galleon limit.
TeachersL 40 Galleon limit.

So low you may think but you must remember muggle money converting to wizarding money. 1 U.S. dollar equals 3 sickles and 15 knuts 1 Sickle and 19 Knuts. Go here to check out other price conversions. And no, I don't know how much it will equal in Canadian. These limits are not in effect for group bidding.

Since the log will be IC, keep the amount of money your character spends IC, start low and work your way up like a real auction would be. No just out right bidding the max amount of money either please, there's no fun in that.

2. Prefects, HoH, and Head Boy/Girl are not able to bid on anyone as they will already be following someone around for the full day.

3. If for some reason you DO NOT want your character auctioned off you need to reply to this post ASAP before the Wednesday night.

4. It will be log style like last year and for those who weren't here last year, just check it out here.

5. For those people with Quidditch Players, don't worry, we'll be auctioning you off at a later date.

6. You own your authority figure Friday to Sunday and you can make them do things like your homework, carry your bags, order them around. YOU CANNOT SEXUALLY ASSAULT THEM IN ANY FORM.

7. I mentioned group biddings, and I mean it! If you want that HoH but don't have enough money, well get together with your friends and pool all your money together to go over the individual limit and get that character.

ON ANOTHER NOTE... it has been noticed within the last three-ish months there have been character resets and journal switching. Character resets should really only be used if you can no longer play your character the way you are playing them. This does not mean that you can change it if you don't like their background or their age anymore, or because you felt like it. It means the character is unplayable. Basically, when you're apping, think about how playable the character will be with the setting you thought of them. SH is unfortunately very restraining when it does come to AU and age ranges, but if you get stuck with how you want to play a character, talk to someone. I don't mean go to mods, ask advice from anyone.


Journal changing. Don't do it if you don't have to. If someone hacks your journal, yes, get a new one. If you like the a name better; Rename token. If you are restarting and want a fresh start, lock the entries, or delete them.

Hello all! RIGHT BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS, HUR HUR, I am coming fully off hiatus for modding, and partially off hiatus for rping. To new people, welcome to SH, I'm Kris-mod! To everyone else, thanks for the many well-wishings and kind words in light of my dad's passing, it means the world to me!

For all teacher characters, when you post homework, we request you put it here. We made this post last year because a bunch of people wanted to see all of the assignments that their character had and this was a clean system to do so. Also, if your character hasn't signed up for classes, an easy way to see what classes to sign up for exists here.

AS A NOTE TO EVERYONE, we want you guys to keep several things in mind. In the past month or so, the mods have observed some general issues that could easily be solved with communication. That means when you do something drastic that your canonmates should know about, when you have a problem with a fellow mun, if there are issues with how someone is being played, or anything at all, talking with your rp partners OOCly and with the moderators is always the best way to go about it. Being passive aggressive while complaining to friends causes nothing but problems and is generally not useful to anyone. D: And it's kinda hard to do anything about.

At the same time, us mods are here to help, so when we're disrespected it makes it very difficult for us to be sympathetic or want to assist you, and in fact makes us less inclined to help you for the future. This is a general note for everyone, but most of you are great and make our job easy. But if anyone ever needs to talk to us or address something, the issues post exists for a reason, so use it guys! \o. OR ELSE. 8|

Hey, everyone, Mozart here. With the new school year starting on Monday, we felt it necessary to reiterate some things. Basically this is a nagging list of reminders of what your character isn't allowed to do and some nagging suggestions of what you should do. We're motherly like that.

Also another nagging reminder: CHARACTER CLEAN-UP ENDS ON MONDAY. If you're new, have picked up a new character or just plain missed it, get those in by the 31st if you don't want your character getting dropped from the RP.

And edit of great justice for yet another nagging reminder: train log goes up tomorrow even though your little munchkins go back on Sunday and the feeeeast log will go up on Sunday for all your stuffing your face needs. \o.

1. Apps are closed for a week. There's a lot of start of the year tasks we need to do and just don't want to forget about the apps in the process. We're going to have a post that teachers can comment to and students can thread beneath their comments. That post will be up in the next few days. Having class itinerary is perfectly fine, but please don't add a sign up. =_=

This is the very last call for Prefect, Head Boy/Girl, and Head of House positions so any who wish to try their hand at it should sign up! We've made it so that Teachers Assistants can also apply for Head of House positions so if you find it fitting for your character, give it a shot! (However, this doesn't include TAs who were students until recently, sorry!)

We really, really need announcers, guys. The one thing that we mods find almost unbearable to do amidst all the work lined up is announcing for Quidditch. Captains are really important for teams too, because they'll be administering the tryouts. A captain should be able to lead the team effectively and lead their team to victory. If you want a spot on the team, there are still a few left here.

I'm putting up the festival log now, and there seems to be a tad bit of a problem. The issue is, I've gotten about 3 females, but only 2 males for the Daily Prophet contest. Annnd since that's my fault for posting it so late, so...

We're going to have the Flower Booth and the Kissing Booth today and the Mr. and Miss Daily Prophet contest on Wednesday. It makes things a lot easier. :3 So on that note...SUBMIT THINGS, PEOPLE! Even if your character has to be forced into it.

Mr. and Miss Daily Prophet

If your character is attractive and talented, then they should try for the Pageant! The winner receives a year long subscription to the Daily Prophet and 200 GALLEONS. The male portion is on Monday and the female portion is on Wednesday, and anyone of any age at all can compete or be forced into it! But how does it work?

On both those days, we're going to put a thread up where your character can perform their talent and rp it out...and anyone at the festival or in the crowd can watch the festival people on the stage making a fool of themselves showing off their talents. (This part is largely optional and for shits and giggles.)

But that only covers the talent portions, right? Well, we have a different system for the sexyfine and the intro/question portion. What'll happen is, you can comment here with the form below. I'll give an example of what we'd have using Kid. (He's NOT competing, it's just an example and excuse the lame because I'm rushing.)

SUMMER FESTIVAL
Now, for the main event. From August 17th-21st, there is going to be a five day long festival held in Diagon Alley. There are several events we have for the week, some of which we want to know if anyone wants to help out with:

• Flower Booth: [Volunteer/s needed] Self explanatory. (Toris, Fai, Endrance, Rosemarine)
• Magical Petting Zoo: [Volunteer/s appreciated] A Petting Zoo, only there's magical creatures instead. Watch your fingers! (Taiga, Daine, Jomy)
• Love Declaration Stage: This is a stage where you can profess your love for that special someone, be they a significant other or someone you've watched from afar.
• Carnival Games: Winners get small stuffed dragons that look like THIS and spit out red confetti instead of fire (Bob, Haru)
• Back to School Sales: Anyone who buys during the festival will get supplies on sale. In addition, when you buy cauldrons, you get a Cauldron Cake, a Licorice wand for a wand, Sugar Quills for quills, etc.
• Broomstick Rides: Fly above London! With a disillusionment charm on them so that muggles don't see, riders can take to the sky for a small fee.
• Kissing Booth: [Volunteer/s needed] Self explanatory. (Papa, Ali, Lelouch, Fai, Anissina, Dean, Abby, Daine)
• Water Balloon Stall: Magic water balloons that explode and reform in an instant to be thrown back at the person who got you.
• Fortune Telling: With a psychic who is never wrong.
• Fireworks: Magical ones, more stupendous than you've ever seen.

But there's two events I left off because I wanted to give them special attention.

BRING BACK CHARACTERS WEEK. Do you have a character that you dropped long ago, or perhaps have a friend who used to play a character here? Then this is the chance for them to stop by and enjoy the festivities! This is only for people who have PLAYED at Sorting Hat in the past, but invite them back to have a good time! We know they'll enjoy themselves. 8D This is sorta a 4th wall day, but we're keeping it allll in the family. And please don't invite any wanky past people, YOU KNOW WHAT I'M SAYIN'?

Annnnd, as mentioned by the Daily Prophet, the Mr. and Miss. Daily Prophet Contest! This is something that anyone can sign up (or BE signed up for 8D)! The male and female contests will be on separate days, and there are three sections for it, a talent portion, a sexy-time/formal portion, and an intro, question portion. There will be more details about this specifically later, but if you want your character in it, feel free to start thinking of stuff for that!

A quick info mod post!

- Events Page is updated until the end of November. Everyone should go take a look at the up coming events for the school year. A new thing we started doing is that we highlighted all the days of the event on the calender. Please remember that all events are subject to change.

- Spot sign ups are closing soon. Please, please go apply for a Quidditch spot before the end of Saturday if you want a chance to become a Captain.

- We're thinking of giving extra Hogsmeade trips for older students. So fill out the poll and let us know what you think.

- We were thinking of doing a new way of doing class sign ups this year. We can do it the old way, where teachers make their sign up posts and we link them on the class lists page. Or we were thinking oh having a post where teachers comment to the post with their class and students reply to the comment. If you're confused, think of HMDing. You comment and people reply to your comment and we link back to the comment. Fill out the poll and let us know. Teachers only since it's their class and it's your sign up.

Several announcements, since everyone and their sister returned from hiatus. Firstly:

IF YOU DROP/JOIN/ANYTHING THE REQUIRES MOD ACTION, PLEASE COMMENT ON THE NECESSARY POSTS. We ask for you to comment in order to keep a record of everything and it's also one of the few things we ask. D: We've had a lot of cases lately where people drop and don't comment to the necessary posts, and while a drop post is nice for your fellow players, you could be nice to your mods as well. :<

Just to make this CRYSTAL clear, if you want your character to play Quidditch (this is not for Quidditch camp), be a Prefect, be Head Boy or Girl, or be a Head of House, FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR, you should sign up HERE. There are a particularly high number of openings for Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Prefects in general. So please SIGN UP. Quidditch NEEDS to be filled up first, so apply!

Next order of business, as mentioned before, we now have a place for people to submit articles and things they want in the Daily Prophet. Players have come to us before asking for us to put things in there (and we have, as you can tell), but now everyone can have news in it. Submission post is HERE. The articles and ideas don't necessarily have to concern your characters, either. Random ideas are highly appreciated!

This brings us to our newest feature. A lot of the time, you have an epic plot that you want to execute, something that might be out of bounds and you might poke a mod about it, or you might not. So you do the plot and 67% of the mods freak out, then the remaining 33% rushes to the others and tells them yes, it's okay, they asked me and I just forgot, sorry for not mentioning. If you don't even ask, it leads to a whole lot of us going 8| (yes, even that one plot that you did that one time that we never said anything to you about.)

SO. In order to circumvent grey hairs in the mod team, we've devised a post where you can submit your large scale plot ideas for us all to see, and contact you about. The post is HERE, and it's linked on all community profiles as well as on the regular events post. This doesn't mean to stop messaging the mods about things, it just means that you should post on there as well when things are finalized.

For a while now, the mod team has wanted to have a lot more NPCing, especially of canon characters. This means playing Moaning Myrtle, Nearly Headless Nick, Peeves, etc. So, since we don't always have time for this ourselves, we're thinking of opening this to someone who'd want to help us out and play minor canon characters when we don't have a chance to. There will be more information on this in a future post, but those who know the books well are invited to consider it!

Last but not least, we are still in lack of a lot of entries for our SH Wiki Logo Contest! If you're interested, give it a shot!

The mod team has a few inquiries we'd be glad if you answered! There are some people who we look at and just think "What were we SMOKING when we sorted them?" And other people we think just don't suit what their teaching/TAing. So we want to ask, if you guys had the option of switching houses or classes taught (as applicable), would any of you be interested? We know people are scant currently, so we'll ask again later. (And if you want to switch for plot or to be with your character's biffle, don't even bother commenting, we mean this for people who's character's PERSONALITY does not suit where they are. If we did this, your character would think they were always there, they wouldn't ICly know it was different. In terms of teachers, ICly knowing is a maybe, although we must ask...REGINALD-MUN, CAN YOU ASSIGN HIM TO A CLASS, PLEASE? D:

The way it runs is that on day one...

It rotates like High School, so you should all get the idea. Specific training is when there are lessons on specific things, like seeking training and beater training, get the idea?


Also on the weekend teams A and B will play against each other and teams C and D will play against each other. We'll have a log up for you guys to play in by yourselves, this isn't going to be like House matches with input, it's a friendly competition match where points are being kept. Play nicely.


3. Teacher related event that we mentioned a few posts back is now being revealed. The Administration and the Ministry of Magic are sending all the teachers and staff of Hogwarts on a retreat of Southend on Sea in Essex. A lovely area with many activities for wizards to entertain themselves with. There's seven miles of beach, the worlds longest pier, three casinos and an amusement park for their enjoyment. There's also a few magical places we added in.

The trip is seven days and it is optional but this is a chance for teachers to interact and bond with out students. [former students who will be TA's next year are invited as well.] There should be no students at all, leave your statutory rape at home, mmkay? The trip starts July 27th and they return on the evening of August 2nd, and will be traveling by Knight Bus.

Here's a basic run down of what will happen on those seven days, this is a guide, feel free to mingle with other plots on the trip.

Monday July 27th - free day
Tuesday July 28th - Seminar: Better teaching techniques [Yes, you have to learn too]
Wednesday July 29th - Swim with the Hippocamus [Like a swim with the dolphins thing]
Thursday July 30th - Seminar: Keeping students safe
Friday July 31st - A tour on muggles and a visit to the History of the Wizarding world museum.
Saturday August 1st - Half day seminar: Helping student toward career goals/ hookers and blow [For Yukimi and Papa]
Sunday August 2nd - free day


They'll be staying in a beach front wizarding hotel with house elves to take care of them. It's fancy with spa's, pools and a bar.

So those are the groups the characters will be working with during the three weeks of camp. They'll be doing activities all day like a real sports camp, and on the last day everyone will go to the world cup match.

Everyone will be in tents, boys in one set, girls in another.

While it seems like it's too early, Quidditch, HoH and Prefect spots will open soon.

Heads up for an events that starts on the 15th and lasts until the end of the 17th. Saint Swithun's day is on the 15th of July and it's a day where people watch the weather. Tradition says that what the weather is like on that day will determine the next 40 days.

In SH, however, it will determine the weather around your journal for 3 days. For those who remember the event from last year, instead of indoor rain, You get INDOOR GLARING SUNSHINE.



Where ever your journal goes, sunshine goes with it, like you can almost walk on it.

1. Quiddy Camp starts on the 17th. Sing up if you already haven't.

3. The wiki is updated now with pages for the players to have of their own. The page isn't fully done, but links to every ones page is there, the end product will look like the mod section of the page. This isn't mandatory by no means, if you don't feel comfortable, you can just ignore it. Check it out here.

Hi hi, everyone! I have mod announcements! Remedial Classes end on Friday.

Quidditch Camp starts next Friday, so if you want to sign up make sure you DO SO! We need to make teams for scrimmages, so get this in asap, guys!

Since Ciel-mun offered first, the Pureblood party will be at the Phantomhive estate and the party is this Saturday. There will be a log set up on/by Saturday.

Those who want to submit letters (or stories/ideas/anything else) to the Daily Prophet are encouraged to do so here! And half the fun is having people react, so feel free to have your characters react to the paper. (This week's paper is a DOOZY, I promise you.)

Upon looking at the wiki, we mods feel that the insignia for the gaming wiki doesn't really represent Sorting Hat.

So we're having a Logo contest! Anyone and everyone is encouraged to make a logo for our wiki. We have very few requirements:

• HP related. It doesn't have to be our color scheme, but it should relate to the canon.
• It should have the name of the comm. This can be in the form of "Sortinghat Roleplay" "Sortinghat RP" "SH Roleplay" or any variation of that.
• Whatever you chose from the above, it should have the word "wiki" at the end.
• The size has to be 135 pixels wide by 155 pixels tall and should be in PNG format. Not PSD, not JPEG, but PNG.
• HAVE FUN, BINT. 8D
