Gentlemens Socks 2

Pattern: Gentlemen's Socks With Lozenge Pattern
Designer: Nancy Bush
Source: Knitting Vintage Socks
Yarn: Zitron Trekking Pro Natura
Needles:  Size 0 DPNs

After setting these aside for months, I finally got to task and finished them up this week for my husband. They're intended to be his Victorian socks for Dickens on the Strand, but they're perfectly nice for every day wear, too. The diamond pattern is just made with purl stitches.

Bintje Socks (WIP)

These were kind of slow to knit because of the small yarn and needles, but they turned out really nice. I need to get some more photos on my legs. I liked how the decreases were worked into the purl "channels".

I can't seem to decide what is best, so I come to you guys for advice.

I'm working cuff down on a sock with a cabled leg. The pattern said to CO 72 sts, but I found the leg wasn't stretchy enough for me with the cables, so I frogged and CO 84 instead, which worked out great.

Now when I get to the heel, the pattern of course says to divide for 72, using 35 for the heel and 37 on spare dpns for the instep.

Should I still use 35 for the heel, and the rest of my sts for the instep, or should I use 41 for the heel and 43 for the instep, since I CO more than I was "supposed to"?

For some reason I can't picture which would be best, or if it would even matter.

Thanks in advance!

I started a pair of socks for my mom since she asked me to knit her a pair right after the beginning of the year. Recently, when I was able to load some money on the prepaid credit card, I ordered some Essential sock yarn from KnitPicks in Glacial and some circular needles and got started on them last week when my order came in.

While I was waiting for the order, I started browsing the sock patterns at Knitting Pattern Central and found a new one added called Tadpole Socks.

Considering this is my mother, and I'm determined to get her the socks (thank goodness she didn't want them right then and there ;)) I decided the best way to overcome SSS was to knit both socks at the same time on two circular needles. I think, for me, this will be the best method for making a pair of socks and the pattern lends itself well to this method since you're knitting the lace pattern on half the stitches.

So, hopefully I'll be able to post that the socks are finished in the near future and post a picture as proof. I'm a little more than halfway down the leg now.

Oh, and I absolutely love Essential sock yarn-not only because it's so reasonably priced, but also because it's so cushy soft. I'm going to get more for me as soon as I can load up about $60 more on the prepaid credit card.

Current Mood: accomplished

I am desperate for a skein of Two Can Rock (a discontinued color) of Socks That Rock by Blue Moon Fiber Arts. I didn't even know this colorway existed until Ute of Socks Street finished a pair of socks with this yarn, and ack! Covet!

Is anyone willing to sell a skein in any weight?

Added: Let's cover all my bases in one edit:
  • I've already searched Ravelry, and no one is selling this color.
  • I've already emailed BMFA, and they told me I'm basically SOL because this color wasn't that popular.
  • The color was discontinued too long ago to still linger at The Fold.
  • I've already Googled my little heart out and commented on the one skein I found for sale/swap on Flickr.
  • I can't post in [info]knitswap because I want to buy a skein. Any "swap" would be a gift certificate or cash.
  • I've already searched on eBay to no avail.
This post? In [info]sock_knitters? Last resort. I posted here because there are 800+ people who knit socks in one place. So...do you have a skein of this yarn in your stash that I can buy off you?

My friend picked out the yarn for her socks - Regia striping. I picked out a pattern that I think might be too busy with the stripes. I'm a little more than half finished with the first sock, but if it's really too ugly to gift, I'm willing to frog it and make a simpler sock style. My husband thinks it's alright, but I can't decide.

    Is this sock ugly? )
