lev.lafayette@isocracy.org AboutSocialism is a political movement which supports public, state, communual or collective ownership and management of the means (or factors) of production and for production to be orientated towards the public good. This ownership or management may be either direct, exercised through popular collectives such as workers' councils, or it may be indirect, exercised on behalf of the people by the state. Politically, socialism requires equal rights for all citizens and is internationalist in outlook.
There is an enormous variety in socialist ranging from the early "utopian socialists", to communists and anarchists, to social democrats.
The purpose of this community is fourfold;
1) To promote socialism as a viable economic alternative.
2) To provide important global news relevant to the socialist cause.
3) To debate historical implementations and theoretical perspectives relevant to socialism.
4) To build a community of socialists on livejournal.
