It's time to start in making BigDamnHats for the California Browncoats for this year's Comic-Con!

Once again, the nonprofit California Browncoats are puttin' out the call for all us BigDamnKnitters to do our thing and make hats for them to have at Comic-Con in July. So, I'm reachin' out to each of you!

Here's the deal:

The California Browncoats are looking for knitters to make them Jayne Hats for Comic-Con. If you are interested, send them an email at sales@californiabrowncoats.org and find out more.

There will be 125,000 warm bodies at Comic-Con this year. Let's stick a Jayne Hat on each and every head. Both adult and child/baby size welcome. We got more than 120 hats last year and I am for us to break that record!

Ready? Set? KNIT! I promise to ONLY harass you guys once a month.

Pls. feel free to repost to your fave Browncoat communities and boards!

Hi everybody!

Yes, yes, I haven't been around much lately.

However, I have poked my head in to remind everyone that there will be
a SoCal Browncoat table at Gallifrey One this year.
Gallifrey One is a
Dr. Who (and other media) con running President's Weekend, Feb. 13-15
at the LAX Marriott (same hotel as LosCon).

More info at their Web site here:
http://www.gallifreyone.com/gallifrey.php

Doc Jubal of the 76th and I will be meeting and greeting.

Come on by and see us -- we have FORTUNE COOKIES!

The 3rd annual Browncoat Day at Disneyland is upon us this Saturday October 25th. As usual the Browncoats will be descending on the happiest place on earth for a day of fun. We aren't going to change the plan much from previous years, so here are the details.

9:00-9:30 AM - Meet at the fountain in front of La Brea Bakery (end of Downtown Disney near the Disneyland entrance)
10:00 AM - Group picture in front of the 'F' of the giant "California" between Disneyland and California Adventure
2:30 PM - Group picture in front of the castle
6:30 PM - Dinner at Pizza Port in Tomorrowland, Scavenger Hunt winners determined

We are once again doing a scavenger hunt. If you wish to participate, you will need a digital camera (or cellphone with a camera). The hunt instructions and clues will be handed out at the initial meetup and the first group picture. Teams for the hunt should be at least 2 people. The last couple years it has taken much longer for everyone to get to the meeting in the morning, so give yourself extra time to get there. Lynn and I will stick around a little extra just in case.

You may also notice that we are meeting in a different spot for dinner. The Pizza Port has an outside area that looks like we can move tables together for a large group. We're going to try it this year and see if it works as well as Rancho Del Zocalo.

For those who want to do the hunt, but don't have a team yet, there will be teams forming or needing members the day of the hunt. Feel free to form your teams on the board in the next few days as well. The hunt is meant to give Disneyland a little something extra, and is not mandatory. It's a lot of fun though, is Browncoat themed, and everyone who participates will get a prize. (and you all know how those last place prizes go :)

If you have any questions, please post or email them. If you need my cell number in case you run late or need to find us after the morning meeting, please send me an email.

We'll see you on Saturday!

Hey kids! I'm writing because this year I'm again running the Los Angeles, CA show of Can't Stop the Serenity, taking place on Friday, June 20th at the Laemmle Colorado One Theater in Pasadena, CA. I'm writing to let y'all know that tickets are now on sale, and you can head over to the SoCal Browncoats website to pick yours up. Act fast because in my experience, it doesn't take long for these shows to sell out. ;)

and family, LJ, blogs, media, etc.

This info is on the site, but we wanted to make sure everyone got it.
We will be ordering very few extras of the shirts and posters. In
order to guarantee that you get the exact size shirt or poster you
want, ordering one now is the only way. For the shirts, all
pre-orders are $20, but the shirts sold on the day of the screening
will be $25 each. Sales tax is included in the price of all sales items.

***Pre-orders end May 16th***

Make sure you order the merchandise from the page of the screening you
plan to attend. Each button has an item number that we will be
tracking. We will bring items ordered on the LA page to the LA
screening, and so on. You can buy tickets to all the screenings on
every page.

We will have some other merchandise available at each screening that
can not be pre-ordered. These items will be in very limited quantity,
but we will make sure at least a few are brought to each screening.

2007 CSTS shirts, posters and buttons - left over from last year
QMx Miranda Map (Signed and Unsigned)

We are also making a 2008 CSTS button and each location will have it's
own version. All of these limited items are donated or already have
been paid for, so 100% will go to Equality Now (except sales tax).

As we get more prizes or have new information, it will be posted on
the SoCal web site. We are working to get more sponsors, prizes and
exclusives for each screening.

If you have any questions please send an email or post here.

See you at the movies!

Heyo!

I've been invited to do several Firefly/Jossverse panels for the local Dr. Who convention, Gallifrey One on Feb. 15-17 at the LAX Marriott (con schedule here).

There will also be a Southern California Browncoat meetup on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 5:30 pm, with possible dinner plans to be determined.

And if THAT wasn't enough, there will ALSO be a SoCal Browncoat fantable on the Saturday and Sunday.

So if you are free that holiday weekend, stop on by and say hi! Look for the short mouthy chick in the Inara costume with CherryBombRed highlights in her hair!

I am extremely pleased to report that, with no mention in the pocket program, we
got about 30 people attending the Firefly panel at LosCon this year,

In what amounted to a conference room designed to seat about 12.

I would first off like to thank [info]brianrubin, who majorly stepped up to the plate and manned
the SoCal Browncoat table, which seemed to get a great deal of traffic, as well
as for massively pimping the panel.

And to [info]dedoc, who represented for the 76th Battalion and hosted the panel with [info]brianrubin and myself. And for the shiny flyers!

Also to [info]danregal and Lynn, who sent along with [info]brianrubin a terrific set-up so that we had an extremely shiny-lookin' fantable.

And finally, to any of you who made it to the panel, thanks so much!

I have been assured that there will be a better balance of media/lit/science at next year's LosCon. And I intend to hammer away at that because that is how we keep not only Firefly fandom vital, but SF fandom as a whole.

Yeah, OK, I didn't pull off an entire con, I admit that. :>

But with help, I made the point I set out to make -- that Firefly fandom isn't going away. And neither is media fandom.

Stay tuned for bigger, better and shinier things for next year!

The California Browncoats and Adam Baldwin have joined forces again. We are auctioning off 13 shirts that Adam wore during the filming of Firefly and Serenity to benefit the Marine Corps - Law Enforcement Foundation. We will auction one shirt at a time starting November 14th.

The Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation uses donated funds to provide assistance “to children of Marines or Federal law enforcement personnel who were killed on duty or died under extraordinary circumstances while serving our country at home or abroad. These funds enable us to provide these children with scholarships for their higher education.”

You can see all our auctions here

http://myworld.ebay.com/californiabrowncoats

and you can see all the shirts and their auction dates here

We are proud to assist Adam in raising money for this worthwhile cause.

Thanks!

06 November 2007 @ 12:46 pm
For the first time since 2004, there will not be any official Firefly programming at LosCon. This greatly vexes me, as I have been one of the major proponents not just for Firefly programming, but for inclusion of SF media programming in general.

This year, however, the con programming chair thought otherwise.

But all is not lost! We have been offered meeting space on Saturday, Nov. 24 from 1-2 pm in order to hold an informal discussion about why Firefly fandom is still going strong. It will be hosted by myself, [info]dedoc (possibly known to some of you as Doc Jubal from the 76th Battalion) and my fellow So Cal Browncoat, [info]brianrubin

Please, if you are in the Southern California area over Thanksgiving weekend and are free on Saturday, come on by the LAX Marriott and join us! You must have a day pass for the con to attend the panel. More info can be found by following the LosCon link.

Help us show that not only do fans want Firefly, but media programming in general! Spread the word!

More developments as they develop.

We're going bowling at The Block! The Orange County shindig will be at Lucky Strike Lanes at The Block in Orange (http://www.bowlluckystrike.com/). Join the SoCal Browncoats for a
fun day of food, bowling, and more.

When – Sunday May 27th 2 PM

What – Bowling, hanging out, pool, lunch and/or dinner

Where – The Block at Orange, 20 City Boulevard W Orange, CA 92868 - http://tinyurl.com/ysj3fq

Who – Anyone who wants to hang out for the afternoon, play pool, bowl, and eat lunch or dinner.

We will be bowling at 2 PM, but if anyone wants to get there early for lunch, we can set up something. Or we can go to dinner after we're done bowling. Or we can do both! If you plan to attend, andwant to set up somewhere to eat, please post or email us.

There is the list of restaurants at The Block here: http://www.theblockatorange.com/static/node873.jsp

Johnny Rockets would be good for lunch, and TGI Fridays or El Toritofor dinner. But feel free to suggest other choices.

Bowling is $45 per hour or $5.95 per person and shoe rental is $3.95 per person. Since only up to 8 people can bowl on one set of lanes, there isn't much difference between the hourly and per person rate (32 cents). We will need to know just how many people are going so we can put in our group before everyone shows up. Please vote on the poll or send us an email if you want to bowl. Lynn and James will be there early to eat lunch and get our lanes reserved. But it still may take a little extra time to get the lanes, and they might not let us reserve a lane until everyone is there. They have plenty of lounging area and the pool table to fill the time until our lanesare ready.

We will probably start with one game, and decide if we want to play more. Afterwards we can play pool, or head to dinner. Anyone who wishes to join for any part of the afternoon is welcome. You only need to vote on the poll if you plan to bowl.

Don't forget, this shindig will be your first chance to purchase Can't Stop the Serenity screening tickets in person!

See you there!
