CHAMPION INTERVIEW # 4 - Acidburn & Sinick!

1. What made you decide to join the 2007 Snarry Games?

Sinick: Having jumped into the swim of fests three times before (Scribbulus_ink's Classic Canon Challenge, Nimori's "Half-Baked Patchwork" fest, and Kinda_Lush) I thought it was time I Went Down Again.

Acid: Where Sinick goes, I go. Down, huh? Hope that's not off-the-cliff-wards. *beams bravely*


2. Which Harry Potter character is your favourite to write? To read? (any POV)

Acid: Favourite to write: Harry. Cause his quirky Gryffindor thought processes are easy and plain fun to follow. To read: Snape, for the exact opposite reason. Because he's difficult and fascinating to try and figure out. But give me any character in whom the author put in as much work and attention as the fandom writers usually give Snape, and I'm happy.

Sinick: Favourite to write: Snape (Nobody faint!) ;^> For much the same reasons as Acid writes Harry: my own personality's Snapeish enough that I find his POV very easy to slip into. To read: Snape as well (obsessed? Moi?) It's always interesting to see how others' vision of the character resembles and differs from mine.


3.What brought Snarry to your attention? Was it a specific event/fic/picture?

Acid: resonant8's The Familiar: which I read about three-fourths in laughing at all the frog jokes, then wimpishly hit the back button at the sex scene, and came back about two months later re-reading the entire thing with a fresh mind and went: huh, in its own strange way, Harry and Snape kindofsortofmakesense. That revelation was quickly followed by cybele_san's If You are Prepared, followed by wikdsushi's Civil War series and then I was hooked.

Sinick: Ohhhh, it's hard to know for sure. As well as Sushi and Resonant, I have to mention Somniesperus' Tea series as one of the early classics.


4. What is your stance on "Quidditch-toned thighs"?

Sinick: My Snape finds them aesthetically pleasing; he's jealous of them though he deeply loathes the anti-intellectualism of sports. He does his best to hide his appreciation, because it only gives the owner of said thighs an even more swelled head (or, possibly, heads).

Acid: My Harry loves to pretend he has them when he struts around looking heroic. Maybe in another world: where all the brooms have built-in bicycle pedals, that might even be true. In actuality, however, he's just a scrawny whelp with a good grip.


5. Your own fanfiction (any fandom, any pairing): What do you think is your most underappreciated work? What do you think is your best work? Would you link them here for us?

Acid: Underappreciated: probably the monster WIP nicknamed Price. Don't laugh. I've been deliberately trying to keep it out of the spotlight before the last chapter is finished because the chapter-before-last has a Cliffhanger of Doom and I still have some edits to complete on that draft but I'm not doing a good job of that am I?
Best: Commonplace Magic.

Sinick: Definite Ditto on Price, though I'm a bit shy about saying that, because of all our collaborations, that's the one where my part is less than half. Of fics that are purely my own and are underappreciated, there's the Pillow of Storge, though I'm very proud of the RP I've done, and that's had an even more limited audience.
Best fic: Tie between hello_hbp and Dandelions: I'm proud of Dandelions because I actually ended up doing Harry's voice in that one, which is definitely not my usual practice at all.


6. In your opinion, will Severus Snape turn out to be 'Dumbledore's Man' in Book 7, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows?

Acid: I have a feeling Severus Snape would be no one's man if he had a choice in the matter.

Sinick: Acid beat me to it! Though, seriously, Book 6 did finally put paid to the theory that Snape is playing both sides off against the other. If that were the case, there's no way he would have stepped forward to kill Dumbledore. Let's put it this way: I think there's no way in hell that he's Voldemort's Man.


7. What do you think of podcasting, the newest fad in fandom? Would you like to hear one of your own stories, or one of your favourites voiced via .mp3?

Acid: I'm the annoying person who mutes the TV and keeps the subtitles running at all times. Internet spoiled me; my reading comprehension is much more efficient than spoken, so probably not. I usually read my drafts aloud when I edit though, but that has been the extent of my fanfic listening skills up till now. Someone with a good reading voice will have to convince me to try it.

Sinick: I'm equally hesitant about podcasting. IMNSHO, even Hugh Laurie's lovely British voice doesn't really do the novels justice. No single voice can possibly do an equally good job with several different characters, of different ages, genders, accents etc. You'd need a fully-fledged radio play, like the BBC Radio adaptation of Lord of the Rings, to even come close to what the reader's own mental voice does everyday. And of course it's just too much to expect a fan-run venture like the Podcasts to go to anywhere near those lengths.


8. What pairing have you never written that you would love to try one day? (Any fandom)

Acid: Hmm, post-Hallows Harry/Snape. I have a feeling it'll be a brand new pairing after the new canon -- just like pre-HBP Snarry.

Sinick: *hehs and nudges Acid. Sneaky! I don't think that's what they meant by pairing!* Hmm. A pairing I've _never_ written. I do love a well-written Snilch, but I think Delphi and Predatrix have pretty much cornered that rarepair. Snagrid's another rarepair that I think has potential, but also has its fair share of stories. Snooch, I think. There's just not enough Snooch out there. I guess my Snape just has a weakness for Quidditch-mad types (and he's bi, which makes it easier to pair him up)!


9. What's your favourite kink to read?

Sinick: Cor gosh! I couldn't possibly narrow it down to just one!

Acid: UST. Heh, I'm such a deviant.


10. How do you feel about participating in this year's Snarry Games?

Acid: Really looking forward to it. Collaborating with Sinick is always a blast. And I get to spy on my teammates' writing process beforehand. It's great! And that draft for our own prompt is getting longer day by day. Deadlines really do wonders for my inspiration.

Sinick: Stoked! It was such a blast to read all the wonderful entries in last years' games, I'm really looking forward to being a very small part of the fun this time round!
