Calling the Wind
Title: Calling the Wind
Author: [info]cruisedirector
Words: 100
Characters: Severus, Sirius
Challenge: #25, Snape has a 25th anniversary, for challenge #54, the retro challenge.

The Veil billows softly. Snape listens to the voices behind it, trying to isolate the one for whom he has come.

"If you can hear me, Black...I killed Pettigrew. I kept your godson alive during the war. Your lover and I have shared your home for more than twenty years. Since you fell, I have lived the life you intended for yourself."

Pausing, Snape looks at the fluttering curtain. "It has been a good life," he adds. "So I am here to thank you -- to show that I repay my debts."

There is a whistling murmur, but no reply.

Oh, so Severus-cold.

Thanks. I can't decide whether he ever forgave Black or not.

Very nicely done.

Thanks so much -- the parallels between Severus and Sirius always interest me.

That was excellent. It left me shivering.

Thanks! The mere mention of the Veil always creeps me out -- such a scary thing, death as a fluttering barrier...

Powerful drabble -- perfect in Snape's awkwardness with Sirius, even though he's dead.

Thank you -- I wonder whether the two of them ever really would have been able to communicate. Sometimes I think Snape is what Sirius was always afraid he'd be.

WOW! Now that was such a beautiful drabble...And actually it reminds me of the photo of the white oak...You know the lone soldier...only in this case its Snape who is the one protecting what could have been Black's life...Preserving memories that will never be Sirius's but that were in truth could have been...

I wonder whether Snape's perception is that he was protecting or usurping. I can't decide whether he would pity Sirius in death or continue to scorn him -- it will be interesting to see what Rowling does in book six. Thank you!

I don't know either though knowing Snape it's probably a bit of both ;)

Thank you! The Veil is just so fascinating in and of itself.

Gods, I was just wrestling with this idea today, of Snape usurping Black's life after Sirius went through the veil. Especially the Lupin aspect.

I just added this story to my memories. And there are very few fics in my memories so far. I'm not sure there are any other drabbles. This is just about as powerful and gripping as anyone can get in 100 words. I am awed. I really love this.

*blush* You have me on a list with Sam and Casira! Thank you. *g* This drabble definitely deserved to be a longer story but it came out like this for the challenge, so I didn't tamper with it.

I suspect that Snape will outlive all of the Marauders and have a bigger impact on their world -- Rowling just better not turn him back to the dark side, or I will be very, very unhappy.

I'm not normally a drabble person, but this was very well done. Very haunting and powerful.

Thanks so much! This topic deserves more than a hundred words, but since Sirius wasn't talking it actually worked briefly.
