Snakes on a contest (with prizes!)
Listen (read?) up, [info]snakesonabloggers! This community is big and active, so I think it's time we had an activity to bring all 200-ish of us together -- I've decided to hold a Snakes on a Plane icon contest.

There will be five categories:
  1. Snakiest (icon best featuring a snake or snakes)

  2. Planiest (to be fair, the icon best featuring a plane or planes)

  3. Spoofiest (this can be a crossover or a snakes-on-a-train kind of deal)

  4. Prettiest (simple 'nuff: the most aesthetically pleasing icon)

  5. Textiest (best text-only icon)
This is meant to be as fun as everyone's favorite movie is sure to be, but there are a couple rules in place to ensure that we do not encounter chaos (the kind of chaos that ... oh ... would ensue if there were, says, snakes on a plane?!?!?). Here you go:
  1. The contest and voting will be open to members only. Please join up if you haven't already!

  2. It's open effective now. E-mail snakesonacontest@gmail.com with the following: your LJ username, the icon (100x100, to LJ specs) or a link to it, and the category you wish to enter. Deadline to do so is Sunday, April 9, by 6 p.m. EST.

  3. Please limit your entries to one icon per category per person. So, a maximum of five, but no more than one in any category. ETA: Each icon can only be submitted to one category; so, for example, you can't submit one to both prettiest and snakiest.

  4. I will post polls for each category by the morning of Monday, April 10. Voting will be open till 11:59 EST on Sunday, April 16.

  5. Most votes in each category wins, plain and simple. The icon that gets the most votes overall will win its maker the grand prize; the icon with the second-most votes in that category will then win the category.
Did I just say prizes?!?! Yes, I did, and I meant it. Category winners will receive their very own snakes on a pin set. The grand prize winner will receive the T-shirt of his or her choice, from Cafe Press or Topatco or Damnation Inc. or the like.

Questions? Pose them in the comments so everyone can be helped by the answer.

Wow, you're dedicating a lot of money to those prizes. Good job.

I'll link to your contest from SnakesOnABlog.com when I get a lull during the next week.

Hey, btw, I've never had a good forum for saying this, but I totally didn't know about your site when I created this community. It just seemed like the natural thing to name it ... so ... sorry 'bout that.

It's all in good fun, so I'm not fussed about a few bucks. It'll be worth it to see the entries and get some new icons out of the deal. :D
