8:33 pm - please don't tell me if it's true
|

Okay, about a year and four months ago I posted a straight, tribute cover of part of Getcha Back. You remember, don't you?
If you don't happen to remember, it was pretty much directly parroted. I was proud of it, but anyway.
Now, for my next album, which I'm almost halfway through creating, I've recorded a cover of 'I'll Bet He's Nice' from Love You. It's not a straight cover; it's electro-groovy, But not electro-camp like the matchless original.
Anyway, now that I'm doing this in my own style, I'd appreciate any comments or constructive criticism anyone has. I'm at a loss for covering the beach boys, and my personal style is fairly dense, but not anywhere near as dense or rich as Brian's. Even in the throes of cocaine and mental instability.
So it's laid back, and there's not really any vocal harmony. Which is blasphemous. But tell me what you think anyway? : )

waving from Russia! my name is Vladimir. I'm new to it all. got into SMiLE two weeks ago, and when I'm not listening to it, it's still playing in my head - almost obsessed with the work. got all the bootlegs I could find (reconstruction by Purple Chick is my favourite by far). and of course, I love the Pet Sounds too. it's unbelievable what Wilson did (and still does) to us with melody and harmony and rhythm. I'm a professional guitar player myself, and I'm floored with how uniquely and beautifully the songs were composed and arranged.
cheers to everyone here )

Okay, so this time I was playing with backmasking and sampling and all kinds of fun things, and I merged two (actually three) things that probably (okay, definitely) don't belong together.
Before I tell you what the three songs are, try and guess them.
( The answers. )
Well, I thought the whole mess sounded okay, if not a bit like a bad trip. Thank the Jesus for echoes and backmasking. In any case, I'd appreciate opinions again : )

Okay. So I, of course, worship the Beach Boys. As does everyone else here.
I recently recorded an album of music, kind of a self-release, going-nowhere type deal. But I've been having troubles with an ex (namely, I wish he wasn't an ex) and so, to make a long story short, I recorded a segment of Getcha Back and stuck it at the end of his copy as a hidden track.
I've yet to hear back from him on this mess, but I wanted to test my production/sequencing wings and see what everybody thought. It's pretty homebrew, not very professional. But if you'd give it a listen? I sequenced all (three) instruments, and provided all the vocals myself. Hooray for multitracking!
Thanks a bunch. : )
Getcha Back (with some lyrical modification)
[edit: I hate uploaders. No, LJ's little window player won't work. Yes, it will open a new page. But once it generates the download link it will work. Sorry about it being stupid. : / ]

anyone notice that "forever" by the explorers club blatantly rips a number of other songs, most notably "our sweet love?" the vocals on the tag at the end of the explorers club song are, almost word for word and literally note for note, identical to o.s.l. the bridge leading into the tag is from "please let me wonder," and the intro to the song is almost identical to "be my baby." not a bbs song, obviously, but it might as well be.

Hello fellow BB fans. I've seen some posts about boots lately, so I thought that I would post my problem! I am now looking for these Beach Boy bootlegs. I had all of them on my computer, and I was going to burn them all onto discs, but before I got the chance, my stupid computer crashed and I lost them all. I feel really, really terrible! If anybody has any if these and would be willing to upload them, I would be so greatful! I wish I had something I could give in return, but I lost all of my bootlegs!

i only caught a glimpse, so it's very possible that i'm wrong, but i thought i saw a clip of brian and dennis presenting "starland vocal band" with a grammy in 1976. however, i know brian had just started seeing landry, so that didn't really make sense... was it them? or did my eyes deceieve me?

4:00 am - Rare (I think) album format
|

quarble
|
Hey, guys. Feel free to tell me if this topic doesn't belong in this community (but if you could direct me to the proper location, that would be awesome.)
I have insomnia. It's 3 am, and my brain won't shut up, so I've decided to harass you lovely people with my questions. Ahem.
My dad gave me his old record collection, and nestled amongst the treasures was a copy of Pet Sounds joined at the seam to Carl and the Passions So Tough. I've hunted around online, but no discography I've found lists this odd double album.
So. What, exactly, have I got here? Please tell me it's exceedingly rare and to mount it on the wall. I love having bragging rights.
Thanks! Quarble

4:49 pm - favorite coda
|

boardwalkjoes
|
What is your favorite Beach Boys coda? It's hard to pick one...but the current top three for me are: (and let me reiterate CURRENT as they change almost every day...)
1. Surf's Up (Surf's Up) 2. God Only Knows (Pet Sounds) 3. Funky Pretty (Holland) <-- the Coda totally makes this song...
Notables: All This is That, A Day in the Life of a Tree, & Don't Go Near the Water.
