2. No, really, we mean it: DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHARACTERS SERIOUSLY.


3. And in spirit of the rules one and two: BE FUNNY AND KEEP IT FUNNY. This is a crack RP in the spirit of 'fake news' that graces the Comedy Channel. It's meant for the lulz. Which means that, while this is heavily based on real news commentary, if you can't make a joke about it, avoid it. We’re looking at stories like France’s nude strike, or Estonia breaking into Russia’s vodka cabinet, or America’s new president being a trekkie. Serious drama parades--while not forbidden (we read APH, we know some stories can get pretty sombre)--are heavily discouraged.


4. Which leads us to: LEAVE YOUR POLITICAL AGENDA AT THE DOOR. There are political jokes and then there’s political commentary. The latter gets srs business. We don’t want that. And yes, a political joke can be a poignant commentary, we know, but the point is a joke you can laugh at and with commentary you can't.


5. STAY ACTIVE. We understand life gets in the way, we really do, but since global news is literally a daily thing, there won’t be much of this RP if no one is around to comment on it, will there? Try to make an effort to post and comment where you can. If you wish to renounce your character, let the mods know.


6. STAY IN CHARACTER. Crack ≠ OOC. But we are also very chill about character liberties as long as they make sense to the character (like writing in accents that are assumed to be there). If you are paranoid over playing your character right, feel free to have a concrit post in your character journal, but remember to have fun above everything else!


7. KEEP IT HISTORICAL, NOT BIBLICAL. i.e. Relationships Are Not The Point Of This RP. Laughing at world news is. We love UST and Gay Jokes and France Groping Everyone and Culture Shock About Kisses, but if your countries aren't marrieds or ex-marrieds-but-still-dating or Trying For Kids (wtf Sweden), don't try to take it beyond what the canon takes it. And for that matter: even if they are Trying For Kids, stop yourself at lulzy subtext. Remember: all this stuff is meant to represent national/geographical agreements or disagreements, not actual sex drives.


8. NO PROSING. Treat the journals like the characters are in front of a computer, replying and interacting on the internet like anyone else would. Describing what your character is doing offline is not part of the post.


9. NO OOC COMMENTS IN THE POSTS. Keep your OOC comments either in your character journal or in theriskbox (like a post containing reference links to the news you're commenting about, or that you'll be going to bed or at work soon, etc). The posts on the comm are strictly RP related.


10. NO ICONS OF FANART ALLOWED. We are Olive Branch Compliant. No we do not care if you are butthurt about not being able to use a doujinshi image that is totally perfect. Fanart is only allowed if you have permission from the original artist and link the source in the icon description. If the image isn't from the official comic or anime and taken without permission, you will be asked to remove it.


11. YOU GOT A PROBLEM? TALK TO THE MODS. Be nice! Have a gay ol' time! Don't start up wank if you got a problem, send an email to the mods and let us handle it. Our process of dealing with problems is pretty simple: you get a two warnings and the third is issued in the form of kicking your butt out. We kind of hope we never have to issue a 'first warning' at all, so don't make us cranky.


12. HAVE FUN!!!!! We keep saying it but let’s make it a rule.

1. All colloquial Japanese or vernacular in the comic is not allowed, the sole exception being... well, Japan. Things are translated as literally as possible either to English or the language of your country. (e.g. 'niisan' to 'brother' in English or 'mon frère' in French , 'kumajiro-san' to 'Mr. Bearson', etc)


2. OPTIONAL: All countries address other countries in their own language. (e.g. Italy addresses Germany as 'Germania', or France addressing England as 'Angleterre', etc) Whatever suits the manner of you're playing.


3. Country nicknames can be derived from the above or something related to it (e.g. Poland addressing Lithuania as "Lit" after "Litwa" (Polish for Lithuania) instead of "Liet", or Germany addressing Northern Italy as "Venedig" as German for "Venice", etc). If you have an idea for nicknames, please run it past the mods first in your ap with your explanation (like, idk, Belarus addressing Russia as "Vanya", the childish pronunciation of "Ivan") as a formality, so we know the reason behind it. Chances are we'll approve it.


4. Exaggerated, stereotypical accents are completely allowed, but also in no way mandatory (e.g. Japan speaking very precisely like everything is translated just-so is just as allowed as France speaking obnoxious Franglish). In the end, it's whatever you feel is most in character for the Hetalia countries. But note: also keep in mind HOW the accents are handled: don't go overboard so that no one can understand you (we're all operating on the assumption that English Is Everyone's First Language) and don't make it too un-PC for even Hetalia. Remember the above rules: keep it funny.

2. KEEP NEWS LINK SUGGESTIONS TO THE OOC COMM. Don't tell the characters directly. They're countries. It'll break the illusion if they have to be informed over what's going on in their own country by other people. If you want to suggest a news story or some cultural fact, post about it at smallestworld. Comments doing this in the RP will be deleted.


3. ANY COMMENTS BREAKING THE ROLEPLAY WILL BE SCREENED AND/OR DELETED. If there's a comment addressing the RP itself and breaking the illusion, it will be screened or deleted, no exceptions.


4. IN SOVIET RUSSIA, RUSSIA TROLL YOU. Russia owns Livejournal. He eats trolls for breakfast. Don't try him. That being said...


5. ANONYMOUS COMMENTING IS TURNED ON. But this is a privilege. If this causes more problems than not, it will be turned off. Don't spoil it.

The process is this: email the preliminary ap to [chirachira @ gmail dot com], and you'll receive a questionnaire to fill out within the next 48 hours as your secondary ap. We review the applications every Saturday and Sunday, and announce the newly accepted players on Monday via smallestworld. If you send in your secondary application during the review period, it will be set-aside for next weekend. So while it has an element of first-come-first-serve, this allows us to process people who apply for the same character in one period fairly. The three mods review the aps on a vote.

You can, by all means, ap or play more than one character if you know enough the history/culture to pull it off.

This shows us how you'll play your country, and plays a big part in our acceptance process (the three mods will review it on vote). Don't be afraid to apply, and most of all don't feel disheartened if you are rejected. If your character isn't taken after you get the notice, feel free to re-ap again.
