"The escape pods..."
"There's only seven left?!"

The situation was nothing short of perilous for the unlucky escapees from the doomed spaceship. Though the rescue mission to save the hostages from the alien Black Doom had been successful - Shadow the Hedgehog had made sure that everyone escaped from the experiment pods, siunce it was he who had gotten them captured to begin with - they had run into problems afterwards.

First, the Black Doom had to be contained, which took almost all of the ship's energy and more. This was causing the ship to lose orbit and spiral towards a potentially fiery destruction in the Earth's atmosphere. Worse, the containment of the alien was not permanent, and the rumblings of his attempts to escape were felt throughout the vessel.

Using the seven pods, however, was an even more fatal venture. For there were eight people that desperately needed to escape.

"We can't all fit in these!" With shock in his voice, Obi-Wan Kenobi turned to the group. "We need to find more escape pods somehow!"
"But sir!" Another voice - that of Samantha Carter - piped up as the ship shook again. "The Black Doom will escape and kill us all if none of us get out of here in less than two minutes! The Stargate's been destroyed and we're all out of ammunition - there's no way we can get out unscathed."
"And we can't just leave anyone back here with that monster to be experimented on!" Obi-Wan Kenobi looked at the black hedgehog, his eyes blazing. "You got us all into this mess. Now you're going to help me find a way out of here for these people. Have you got that?"
"....There is no way out now." Red eyes bore nonchalantly into the Jedi as Shadow shrugged. "By sealing Black Doom inside the main control room, I no longer have the power to Chaos Control and you don't have enough power to summon help. So..."
"...That can't be..." Ob-Wan shook his head in frustration. "We need to all live..."
"There's still one option open."

At this, a lean female stepped forward. Her cold, black eyes turned to each person in the group as she brought something out of her pocket. It was a bullet, thing and gold, that gleamed in the faint light of the Earth.

"That." She then pointed towards Shadow's shoe, where the handle of a firearm rest. "A 627-5. Smith & Wesson."
"Ana Lucia...!" At this, a tall, lanky man in a red suit scratched his head nervously. "Wh-what are ya doin'?!"
"This is our solution, Arsene Lupin." Grabbing the gun from the black hedgehog, Ana Lucia jammed the lone bullet into one of the slots, and wildly spun the chamber around. "This son of a bitch has got eight chambers. We have one .357 Magnum bullet in here now. And that means..."

With that, she suddenly clicked the chamber closed. She then took the gun up and held it up towards the ceiling.

"...Seven of us are leaving this place alive."

Without warning, Ana Lucia suddenly brought the gun right to her temple. Everyone - except for Shadow and Obi-Wan - started to scream as she pulled the trigger without any misgivings as to the action she was committing. It was almost as if she wished for death.

But that time, nothing happened.

"Oh my god...."
"You're insane!"
"Pika chuu!!"
"One down...seven to go. So...who wants to go next?" At this, Ana Lucia pointed the gun at the group. "Or do I have to shoot for you cowards?"

The group suddenly became quiet at this. Quietest of all was the young black-haired girl in the back, who simply watched the entire debacle with purple eyes.

"I'll do it." At this, Shadow took the gun and pulled the trigger; he gave a shrug when nothing happened. "Oh well. I guess I live now."
"Give that to me!" Obi-Wan suddenly grabbed the gun away. "This is madness. You've both lost your minds!"
"Have you got a better idea?"
"Well, I have the idea that I'm not about to let any of these people die!"
"And if somebody doesn't get that clip in their head, we'll all die!" At this, Ana Lucia turned to the other five. "Thats right, you'll all die if you don't do this and decide who gets the bullet so the rest of us can escape!"

The rumbling within the ship became stronger, to the point where nuts and bolts began to come loose from the walls. The young black-haired girl noticed this, but said nothing.

"One minute left!" At this, Edward Tivrusky gave a salute and began to march back and forth. "One minute until detotation! Yes sir! Batten down the hatches, mateys!!"

The black-haired girl looked at the gun, which was in the Jedi's hand. She was not afraid of death; that wasn't what made her hate this game of roulette. Death came easy to her.

What killed her was the suspense of wondering whether the next shot was going to be the deciding one. It was the thought that someone had to die so the others could live, but no one knew who.

"Give me the gun."

Before Obi-Wan could respond, the gun was suddenly in the hands of the young girl. Before he could respond in any way, however, she had the gun pointed toards him. Though he could have easily made a move to disarm her with his saber, there was clearly - at least to Obi-Wan - something else at play. He silently backed down.

"Kid...?" At this, Carter started towards the girl. "What are you-"
"Everyone."

Carter was stopped by the pointing of the gun towards her heart, and, without any of her own weaponry to counter, she back down. The young girl then turned to the group, her eyes meeting with all of theirs as she aimed the gun at them.

"Get out of here before its too late."

There was an authoritative tone in the young girl's voice that caused everyone - even Shadow, even Ana Lucia, even Obi-Wan - to obey her whim. One by one, they entered into the pods, not speaking, not making a sound. All but Edward, who hummed the strains of Taps as she rolled into her pod.

Finally, the last door to the escape pods was shut, and the sound of pressurization could be heard as the pods were prepared for detatchment from the ship. Just as this happened, one last, great rumble came from within the control room. The beast was out.

"...Well." Knowing death could not be not far behind for her, Hotaru Tomoe brought the gun up. "I'd rather not be taken alive by this beast. Let's see if my luck holds out for that."

She pulled the trigger just as the alien burst through the corridor.
