Title: Assumptions
Author: [info]dexstarr
Word Count: 100
Rating: PG
Challenge: [info]slytherin100 #140: Assumption
Characters: Pansy Parkinson, Draco Malfoy
Warnings: None
Author's Note: I've had this idea in my head for about a while, and I'm not perfectly happy with it, but I can't put my finger on what's off. Oh well, more practice on writing Pansy.
Disclaimer: HP and all assorted belong to JKR, and are not mine.

“No?”

Pansy smirked at the disbelief in his voice. Draco still wasn’t used to being refused anything, even though the Malfoy name had lost considerable respect since the war.

“No,” she repeated, relishing the wounded look on his face.

“But Pansy – it’s what you’ve always wanted. To be a Malfoy –”

She laughed bitterly, interrupting him. “It’s what I wanted, before. But I happen to know Daddy told you to marry, and you assumed I’d be happy to go along with the idea. But your family isn’t exactly on top, anymore, Draco.”

“Neither is yours,” he shot sullenly.

“No, it’s not.”

Head of House

  • Aug. 31st, 2010 at 7:23 PM
Title: Head of House
Author: [info]dexstarr
Word Count: 100
Rating: PG
Challenge: [info]slytherin100 #139: Ward, and #140: Assumption
Characters: Horace Slughorn
Warnings: None.
Author's Note: I'm really trying to avoid my favorites...
Disclaimer: HP and all assorted belong to JKR, and are not mine.

Slughorn contemplated the box of crystallized pineapple, searching for the biggest piece. The candy was a welcome relief after spending his night tending to annoying children – yet again.

Sometimes he hated being Head of Slytherin House. Some of his wards didn’t have the maturity level of flobberworms, and some caused more trouble than untended salamanders.

Knock.

“Professor?”

“Tom! Come in!”

Now there was a boy who would go far; he just knew it. Tom was a valuable member of the Slug Club, and worthy of his time and mentorship. Slughorn was sure he’d reap enormous benefits from helping Tom Riddle….

The Day After

  • Aug. 25th, 2010 at 5:01 AM
Title: The Day After
Author: [info]dexstarr
Word Count: 100
Rating: PG-13
Challenge: [info]slytherin100 #138: Headline
Characters: Pansy Parkinson
Warnings: None
Author's Note: Eh I need practice writing Pansy, but at least I didn't write a Black or Malfoy!
Disclaimer: HP and all assorted belong to JKR, and are not mine.

***

Pansy scowled at the bold black headline before jabbing the offending words with her wand. When The Daily Prophet caught fire she smiled, briefly, before frowning again.

Damn it all to hell.

She should be celebrating the Dark Lord’s victory, not skulking in some hovel in Hogsmeade. She should be securing her future, maybe even taking the Dark Mark, not wasting time with the bloody paper.

If only she had been more cautious, more cunning – more Slytherin – when attempting to betray Potter in the Great Hall.

If only.

Then the headlines might be worth reading, rather than turning to ash.

Locking Horns

  • Aug. 19th, 2010 at 3:48 AM
Title: Locking Horns
Author: [info]dexstarr
Word Count: 100 x 2
Rating: PG
Challenge: [info]slytherin100 Deny
Characters: Draco Malfoy, Lucius Malfoy, Narcissa Malfoy
Warnings: None
Author's Note: Loosely follows another drabble of mine, Hebridean Black.
Disclaimer: HP and all assorted belong to JKR, and are not mine.

***

Alerted by a mother’s sixth sense, Narcissa snatched the flying dragon from the air seconds before it would have crashed into her head. “Not again,” she growled.

“With reflexes like that, you should’ve been a Quidditch player, my dear,” Lucius drawled behind her, amused by his wife’s predicament. She had been attacked by their son’s current favorite toy several times in the past few minutes.

“Don’t you start, Lucius!” Turning to face him, she squeezed the plush dragon angrily as she said, “Draco thinks it’s hilarious to set his toy on me. I’ve a mind to take it off him.”
