| | Hello everyone! im quite new to this comm, and this is my first post. Im trying to make this notebook which is a compilation of some good quotes on the books ive read, and i need some quotes/lines from Sloppy firsts and Second Helpings since I havent listed the pages with the good quotes (i tried scanning and only have located the common ones - mostly w/ marcus haha. but i know there are a lot more nyc lines from jessica and i just dont have the time right now to read it page by page) So i'd be glad if you'd share some of your favorite quotes from the first two books of this series. thanks! | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| So my friend and I are going to be Jessica and Hope for Halloween...haha. We are going to a concert so we needed something easy and low-key. The plan is that one of us will wear a "Me. Yes. Me." shirt and the other wear a white t-shirt with paint smeared all over it. The books have kind of run together for me, and I'm having trouble finding in which book (and where in that book) it describes Hope's painting shirts. In the meantime while I'm still looking I thought I'd ask here if anyone knew off the top of their head. And were there any other notable shirts Jessica wore? I can only think of the Me. Yes. Me one and Marcus' COMINGHOME shirt. Any other ideas are cool too :) Thanks! | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |

| I just finished reading Second Helpings and in the back it says that Megan wrote Hope's side for twistedmagazine.com and of course I tried to go see if it was still there... six years after the book has been printed. Of course it wasn't there. Anyways, does anyone know if it actually made it to the internet, and if so... where can I find it?
Please and thank you! | comments: 5 comments or Leave a comment |
| I completely forgot that it was Marcus's 26th birthday. HAHA It dawned on me when I saw it on Megan's twitterpage/facebookpage, so to commemorate our favorite fictional male character, lets all greet him
HAPPY 26th BIRTHDAY Marcus Flutie! (Happy 11th Wedding Anniversary as well to Megan and Chris McCafferty!)
Let us celebrate this by sharing out favorite Marcus Flutie quotes.
Share away!

| my boyfriend and i have been upset with each other for the past two hours or so for some reason or another. now that we're at the resolving phase, we're both trying to apologize, saying "no, it's my fault" "no, it's not, it's my fault." and in a very jessica-marcus like way that was funny to me because of a line in perfect fifths, my boyfriend just said to me:
"let's just blame it on barney." those of you who have read the book will get the reference.
the reason why this is even funnier? he's never read the books. | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| I was wondering if someone, ANYONE, would be willing to make me a few wallpapers with different quotes from the series we all love...
PLEASE? I have photoshop but I suck at it...
I'd want these quotes on different ones... (just in case someone is actually interested)...
"After all, you can only be in a bad mood for so long before you have to face up to the fact that it isn’t a bad mood at all. It’s just your sucky personality."
"Right now I feel guilty to be alive. Why? Because I’m wasting it. I’ve been given this life and all I do is mope it away."
"Perspective basically guarantees that there’s no such thing as a pure emotion."
"I try not to address my desires. If I deny, deny, deny, then I have no reason to be disappointed when I don’t get it. Right."
"We are perfect in our imperfection."
"Love may have the longest arms, but it can still fall short of an embrace."
"All I’m saying is that you can’t hide from certain death, so you shouldn’t hide from uncertain life." | comments: Leave a comment |
| Using my awesomely awesome icon of Angela from My So-Called Life, I'm bring sexy discussions back! So here are a few discussion questions.
Jessica Darling has been compared to Angela from My So-Called Life and Holden Caulfield. Do you agree or disagree? Why?
Are there any books or book series with a female character in it similar to Jessica? She doesn't have to be the main character or the main character's best friend, she can just be in the book for a small amount of time. What are there? Would you recommend them to fans of Sloppy Firsts? Why or why not?
If you have read Perfect Fifths: Were you satisfied with the ending? If not, what would you change about the last book?
Pertaining to the entire series: Who did you identify most with? Were there times that you saw yourself in the particular character and when were they? If you could eliminate any character, who would you take out and why?
Also, if you are talking about Perfect Fifths, please remember to state that in your subject header or in bold or SOMETHING so that people who have not read the last book can be aware. | comments: 5 comments or Leave a comment |

This summer was about Jessica Darling and Marcus Flutie. I know, I'm quite late. So amazingly, annoyingly, confusingly, heartbreaking-ly real, I fell in love with them and their friends, even as I wanted to tear my hair out (and wail whyohwhy???!!!?) at the travails of their relationship from Sloppy Firsts to Charmed Thirds (to the first one-third of Fourth Comings, which I only started last night). Reading, I remembered how even--or especially--the best of loves can be complicated and messy and "not enough"; how I myself endured years of a non-break-up break-up (to a happy ending, 9 years later); how people can grow up and apart and together again. (And of course, I remembered the fantabulous '80s too.) Anyway, these songs remind me of Jessica and Marcus circa Charmed Thirds. If you like the mix, let me know. :)
p.s. the image really was not meant to be morbid.
Love has the longest arms ~ (a Jessica and Marcus fanmix)

| Originally I had planned to wait until the soft cover edition of the book came out, you know, in a year or so, before I read Perfect Fifths. I admit it. I caved. And I have to say, I liked it. I loved the first two books especially, as Jessica always reminded me a bit of me. The third and the fourth I am still on the fence about. But I really enjoyed the last book.
I really think my enjoyment of Perfect Fifths has to do with Marcus Flutie.
I like how McCafferty delved into the deep recesses of Marcus Flutie's mind. It was just as I thought it would be. Slightly dark, a smidge of self-loathing, and Jessica-like cynicism.
Though Marcus's intriguing humour was funny and witty I felt the book was too short. But maybe that is just because I hate to see the end of books. Although seeing these small snippets of Marcus's psyche makes me wonder what the entire series would have been like through his point of view. Probably less snarky than Jessica's view but I also think more philosophical.

| OK, so I just got this idea and I must admit it's too much like one of Megan's recent contests, but so what, I just want to see more activity in this community.
Participate in this contest, please: Write a senryu (in proper 5-7-5 syllable lines) about any character in any of the 5 Jessica Darling books. Be creative. Post it here in the community, and be sure to send me a personal message letting me know you did so. Contest ends May 31st.
June 1st (ish) I will post all of the senryus in one public entry and let the community vote on their favorite. Winner will be congratulated approximately a week later and their name will be added to the info page. If the winner has a blog, website, myspace, twitter, or whatever they want publicized in this congratulations, I'm willing to do so, cuz hey, if you write good senryu's, you probably do other good creative stuff too.
If you can think of any other perks for the winner that won't cost anybody any money, let me know.

| i must be the last person to post up her review...i was broke as a joke when the book first came out, and i'm super cheap when it comes to books so i refuse to buy them full price at borders....i go through half.com or ebay or amazon. i got money right before we left for vacation (to my mom's house in florida) so i bought the book and had it sent to mom's, i got it a few days ago and just finished it about 5 minutes ago. long story short, i am not impressed...

| hey, today's LJ Writers Block thing asks about your favorite community. this is by far my favorite. it's so active, you're all intelligent, and you're quite passionate about the subject matter. and *knock on wood* we've had little to no drama in the years we've been here. it's been about 7 years. (wow)
so, if this is your favorite community too, you should post about it in your personal lj. we deserve a good plug every now and again.
thanks for making this forum so awesome.

| Yes? (of course the hair color doesn't fit, but whatever, I needed a visual)

(Actually, Julia Stiles can fit Jessica Darling too. At least her character in the film does...down to the problematic boobage, lol.)
Love Heath. Love this movie. Love Marcus Flutie. Love the book series.
Hope tiny, somewhat meaningless posts like this are okay.
