The next morning I woke up a little later than I would have liked, or thought was appropriate. When I was dressed and stood outside my door I tried listening to the sounds of the house. I couldn't hear noises coming from Matt's or Jimmy's room or downstairs. I thought they might have still been sleeping. Though it was one in the afternoon. I went downstairs and found my theory to be wrong as I saw Matt and Jimmy eating in the kitchen.
"Morning Zacky." Said Matt before biting off a piece of peanut butter toast.
"Woah, when did you get here?" Jimmy asked, appearing forty times more sober than he was when I had first met him last night.
"It's Zacky. He was here last night." Matt pointed out.
"I didn't know there was a 'last night'" Said Jimmy with widened eyes.
Watching Jimmy's facial expressions was a good form of entertainment. When he spoke, you just wanted to smile with him. Even the way he held himself up radiated charisma. I could tell already that I was going to enjoy his company for the next few days.
"I didn't know this was a flophouse." Jimmy said jokingly. "Nah I'm just playin'. You're cute."
Just like last night the form of endearment made my cheeks heat up. "Thanks." I said with a chuckle.
"So what are you doing tonight?" Matt asked Jimmy as he handed me a mug of coffee which I appreciatively accepted.
"I don't know yet." Jimmy yawned, stretching out his half-naked body.
He wasn't wearing a shirt again. In fact I think he was wearing the same thing he wore last night when he stumbled in drunkly. I didn't mind though, I liked the way his pants edged so low on his hips.
"Well why don't you stay here with Zacky tonight because I have to work." Matt suggested.
Jimmy eyed me up and down. "Sure I'll stay here with you Zack. Are you not from around here?"
I shook my head. "I was born here, but I moved after college."
Jimmy nodded and Matt smiled. I had known Matt for almost all of my life. From kindergarten until the end of high school where we went to seperate colleges. Matt dropped out his first year but I kept going. At the time I was unemployed, and so fueled my desire to return to Orange County to visit some old friends. I had gotten a hold of Matt and told him I was coming down but when I actually arrived I got too caught up with other friends that I forgot about him. Luckily he was present at the casino I had lost all my money in and offered to take me out for drinks because it had been so long. There I told him I had no way home and no place to stay. He promptly offered for me to return to his house with him.
By the time we were done eating and talking it was already three PM. More than half the day was already wasted. I mentally shrugged though, it's not like someone who's penniless and miles away from home really had much to do anyway.
I was proven wrong again after Matt left for work. A slight reluctance crept over me but soon diminished once I started talking to Jimmy one on one. I found him to be very much like myself. We loved the same things, the same bands and we grew up the same way. For most of the late afternoon and into the evening we spoke to each other, equally engaged in what each other had to say. I wasn't sure if I liked listening to him speak with his cute lisp more or if I liked watching him and his facial expressions as he told me stories of his teenage glory days.
"I like you Zacky, why haven't we ever hung out before?" He asked, cocking his head slightly to one side.
"I was never aware of your existence before I got here last night. Sort of glad that I am now." I smiled.
We were seated face to face in the middle of the living room. We had been playing a fierce game of Mario Kart until we got distracted by recalling our lives to one another. The game controllers remained uselessly next to us, the screen stuck on pause but not one of us went to turn it off. Jimmy grabbed his feet and rocked backwards, lifting his crossed legs into the air and then coming back up. He reminded me of a young kid, only he was twenty five and stunningly interesting.
"Do you want a beer?" Asked Jimmy as he stood up.
From sitting down his knees met the top of my head. Jimmy towered over me no matter if I was standing or sitting, but just like everything else about him, it only pleased me more.
"Yeah sure. I'll take a beer." I said.
He held out his hand to help me up. I wanted to decline, but his piercing blue eyes wouldn't allow me to. I grasped his hand, his long fingers curling around my palm and lifted me up breezily. I followed him into the kitchen where we retrieved two MGDs from the fridge and cracked them open simultaneously. I rose the aluminum to my lips and took a gulp of the frosty liquid heaven and set the can down nicely on the counter. When I looked back at Jimmy he was had just finished downing an entire can in less than ten seconds. I was blown away.
"Take it easy there Jimmy." I said, baffled and amused by how much liquid that guy could take in such a short amount of time. It also got me thinking of what else he could fit into his mouth, but I quickly pushed that thought out of my head.
"Eh, might as well get drunk. It is Friday." He said before he got out another pair of cans.
I quickly downed mine, not as fast as Jimmy had but just as well and went on to my second. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Jimmy, watching me too and testosterone powered telepathic thoughts were exchanged, challenging each other to a chugging contest. After both of us slammed our second cans down we raced to the fridge, pushing and laughing, trying to get to the beer before the other one could. I almost choked several times trying to get the beverage down as fast as I could but kept going back for more every time Jimmy did. By the time we finished and could take no more, there were fourteen empty cans on the counter all wet with beer that didn't make it into our stomachs. After I took a glance around it hit me. I was piss-ass drunk, and had acquired said inebriated state in less than fifteen minutes. Not only did I have to piss with incredible intensity, but my head was spinning and Jimmy began to laugh.
"Wow, that just hit me." He marveled as he swayed back and forth on his legs, making his still naked hips protrude on either side until he finally rested with his left.
"Yeah. Fourteen beers in five minutes!" I exclaimed.
We both began to laugh uncontrollably and drunkly, most likely resembling a pair of wasted teens who had yet to learn what alcohol was really about. But after that I figured what good was alcohol if it didn't spin you around and make you have sex with people you wouldn't dream of doing sober? Suddenly an overwhelming feeling of warmth passed through me like an unstoppable tsunami. I was feeling awfully frisky and the only person around to flirt with was Jimmy. Even in my drunk state, I knew I should take it slow as possible if I was to try to hook up with this guy. He was a guy after all and probably straight as a board. The thought humbled me, but it wouldn't make me give up.
"We should get banana splits! There's this place down the street and it sells the best ice cream you could ever imaaaagine!" Jimmy suggested excitedly.
I smiled and was about to agree whole-heartedly until I remembered my empty wallet. I frowned which caused Jimmy to cock his head to the side, his lips slightly pouting.
"I've got no money for shit like that." I admitted.
Jimmy's face twisted with laughter. "I'll buy fuckhead! Christ, did you really think I would... I would. Did you really think that?" Asked Jimmy, unable to express himself the way he wanted to.
"Okay then. Are you sure?" I requested reassurance.
He nodded and motioned for me to follow into the living room where we put our shoes on.
"Oh, one sec. I need a shirt." Jimmy remembered, gesturing with one finger that he would be back down from his room in no time. I finished lacing my shoes and leaned against the wall to steady myself. I always lost my balance when I drank, no matter if I was tipsy or trashed. I heard the rumble of Jimmy's feet coming down the stairs and then he appeared at the bottom, beaming and ready to be on our way.
The sun was mid-way through setting as we emerged into the cool summer air. There was a gentle breeze all around swishing the trees and making the grass sway lazily. The clouds were tinged with a gorgeous hue of pink and orange around the edges. They resembled big clots of cotton candy hanging in the sky. Further east where the sun had come from earlier that day, the expanse above was a soft blue with wisps of clouds caressing dazzling colors. Great shadows were cast by the houses and street lamps of the suburban neighborhood. Jimmy and I started off turning right onto the sidewalk and strolling down lopsidedly. Once I swept his figure with my eyes I felt that tugging urge to flirt again. He was much prettier than the sky, softer than the whispering wind and more interesting than the string of identical homes. I smiled at him though he wasn't focused on me.
"How far away is it?" I asked him.
"Just a few blocks." Jimmy said, turning to me with a winning smile.
For the hell of it, and to satisfy the calling I heard to trifle the taller man I purposely tripped and pushed into him, forcing him to catch me, or at least hold onto me with his arm around my shoulders.
He spoke with a constant laugh. "Easy there lightweight! Want me to carry you too?"
"That would be nice." I said, looking up into his steel blue eyes.
He smirked to himself and looked ahead, his arm never uncoiling from around my shoulders. I slid my own arm around his waist and wobbled down the street with him. I knew we wouldn't be doing this sans alcohol but I enjoyed it anyway and savored the feeling of being close to and flirting with a total babe. Not just any babe, Matt's roommate. I didn't know how Matt would like me attempting to romantically interfere with his friend but it was beyond my drunk control now. Whatever happened, happened...
And nothing happened on the way to get ice cream except a few trips and giggles. We reached the shop and went inside, the sweet smell of homemade ice cream and fresh fruit filling our easily pleased senses immediately. There was a family of four sitting in a booth located in the far corner, a young couple at a table and two old ladies off to the side licking at plain ice cream cones. Jimmy had an incredible smirk on as he sauntered up to the counter and told them exactly what we wanted. He pulled a bill out of his wallet and slid it across the counter then turned to me with that same smirk, leaned up against counter. He licked his lips and twitched his eyebrows suggestively.
"It's gonna be yummy." He told me.
I smiled thankfully at him and even wider so when two huge banana splits were given to Jimmy with two long red spoons stuck in the center of them. He handed me one and I immediately shivered with excitement. Chocolate sauce was drizzled over the French vanilla ice cream and on top of that chopped peanuts were littered across the trails of chocolate, some dropping into little pools of strawberry sauce and caramel. In dabs along the sides of the treat were swirls of whipped cream that layered over sweet-smelling banana. It was a great idea going to get ice cream.
Jimmy dug into his after we left the ice cream shop and didn't say a word until I moaned. I had always had a thing for ice cream, it being the best dessert on the planet and also because my wavering drunkenness allowed for anything edible to look delicious.
"So gooood." Jimmy groaned, his eyes rolling back dramatically.
"I know. Thank yooouu!" I said enthusiastically.
"Mm no problem." He said with mouthful of banana and cream, making it sound like he said 'no pwobwem'.
Just as fast as we finished the beer, we wolfed down the ice cream by the time we were halfway back to his house. I looked at him and giggled when he drop kicked the plastic bowl the ice cream had come in and it landed upside down on the curb, dribbling melted remnants of vanilla onto the cement. When he looked up I noticed he had a smear of whipped cream by the side of his mouth.
"You have whipped cream on you." I pointed out.
"You have chocolate on you." He also pointed out.
I didn't know what he was doing when he leaned over towards me, until I felt the wet of his tongue licking the chocolate off my laugh line.
"Tasty." He said, in turn making me swoon like a teenage girl, my stomach knotting with butterflies.
Suddenly he paused and frowned. I stopped four feet ahead of him and turned, cocking my head quizzically.
"Aren't you gonna lick mine off?" He asked.
What kind of person would I be to deny such a request? Especially when made with shining blue eyes and pretty pouting lips. I approached him and stood up on my tip toes, though it still didn't give me enough height to reach. Jimmy had to bend down so I could drag my tongue over the spot of white cream. The warm sweetness on his skin was even better than when it was garnishing ice cream. My heart pitter-pattered with the realizations of a new crush. Jimmy possessed a mysterious charm and had an amazing aura of happiness and fun surrounding him. I loved how tall he was, his slender hips and the way his ass looked so great in the pants he was wearing. I liked his hair and his eyes and his lips. I loved his tattoos and loved his lisp. We had only known each other for a day and I could sense the beginnings of a romantic attachment about to erupt. Maybe not that day, but I could feel it in the way I caught him looking at me. Lust was written into the ice of his irises like scribbled words on a page. Hard to read, but they were there, I knew this.
We got back and settled down, our buzzes wearing off considerably in the must of his house.
"I had a lot of fun doing nothing with you today." Jimmy said as he flopped onto the couch and invited me to sit next to him.
"Me too. I'm glad I found Matt when I did or else this would have never happened." I replied.
"Well, we might as well add to the list and watch a movie. I'll probably crash after that."
I nodded eagerly. I was definitely down for a movie, and I think Jimmy knew this by the way he smiled at me.
"I'm going to take a wild guess and say you're a fan of horror. Yes? No?" He asked, using his hands as a scale.
"Guilty as charged." I admitted.
"30 Days of Night it is!" Jimmy exclaimed, grabbing and holding the DVD case up over his head.
Jimmy slid the disc into it's corresponding slot in the DVD player and pressed a series of buttons as I sat and watched on the sofa. Once the screen flickered onto the main menu Jimmy turned about and smiled triumphantly.
"Be right back. Don't you dare press play!" He warned as he pointed a long finger at me.
Jimmy disappeared into the kitchen, leaving me seated on the sofa in the living room by myself. I hadn't a clue what he was doing, but it began to take a while. The main menu displays played over and over, the repetition more than likely burning a hole in my brain. With a quiet sigh I noticed a loose thread on the arm of the sofa I was leaning on and decided to toy with it until Jimmy came back. It was a ridiculous way to wait and attempt to ignore the redundancy of the screen and the sounds coming through the speakers. By the time Jimmy returned to the living room I had unraveled a long string from the stitching and secretly shoved it in between the cushions and smiled up at him. He was holding out a large bowl of freshly made popcorn for me to take. I thankfully grasped the edges of the bowl and set it down in my lap, Jimmy sitting beside me with the DVD player remote in hand and pressed play. The movie began and all was silent.
"SHIT!" Jimmy yelled suddenly, making me jump and knock the bowl into the air, popcorn kernels flying everywhere, landing on the ground, in my lap and on the sofa.
"What!?" I asked, eyes wide.
"I forgot to turn the lights off." The tall, ridiculously cute man stated calmly.
Jimmy got off the sofa once again to turn the lights off in the kitchen and the front hallway before he came back and stood directly in front of me, cutting my line of vision from the screen. I was at eye-level with his groin for the longest time before I looked up at him.
"Jimmy, were you dropped on your head as a baby?" I asked with a short giggle.
"No. I think it has something to do with the alcohol." He confessed as he leaned over me, his body nearing dangerously close.
My confused testosterone wanted me to reach a hand out and touch the man before me, but my common sense and the fact that I had just met Jimmy didn't let me take the action. It was too soon for me to be making sexual advances, though it was getting harder and harder to resist. Particularly after Jimmy slid off his black t-shirt and lounged beside me, long legs spread in that manly way that was perfectly acceptable in society. For a moment I stared at his shapely thighs. I knew I'd be having wet dreams about those long, sexy legs of his.
The movie played on and we watched in almost complete silence, besides our popcorn crunching and the occasional outburst of laughter. 30 Days of Night wasn't really supposed to be funny, but for some reason we laughed anyway.
Through the living room window I saw that the moon had relieved the sun's post in the sky amongst the billions of twinkling stars and I suddenly wondered when Matt was coming home. I kept my question quiet though, for beside me Jimmy was already dozing off. When I saw his tired eyes reluctantly slip shut I too felt the overpowering jurisdiction of fatigue telling me to go to sleep. The movie was more than half over so I figured I might as well sleep right there on the couch next to Jimmy, thus concluding my first full 24 hours at the house.
