hey. so around the winter of 07, I slipped over a blanket that was laying on the floor, my body landed on a mattress that was also on the floor, and my head slammed into a coffee mug that was stupidly placed beside the mattress. a piece of the mug went into my skin right beside and a little bit below my left eyebrow. I went to the ER and received stitches and the doctor who stitched me up was a really young looking guy who seemed pretty new to the whole thing. I took care of the stitches very well but I've been left with a pretty noticeable scar that is about maybe three centimetres in length. people don't notice it much because I have a bit of bangs and I have them always covering the scar. It is a huge deal for me and a big cause of insecurity; I am always paranoid that it is showing and am constantly playing with my hair to cover it and I hate when people are close to my face. that sounds silly now that I am reading it but it is really a big deal for me. I've been rubbing this treatment called Bio-Oil on it on and off for a few months now and I've applied tons of vitamin E to it but I see no difference. I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with treating scars or know someone who has. I have been heavily considering plastic surgery to have it removed/lightened but I can't find too much stuff on the web about this. I know there are a few different ways to go about it, including injections and laser treatment but again, I was just wondering if any of you have had this done/know someone who has or have any information on the topic. it would be GREATLY appreciated. |

Hello!
I need to get rid of my blackheads. I've been to the cosmetic, used various products, but can't pop them, even if I steam my face for several minutes beforehand. I have used commercial exfoliates, scrubs, masks etc and also, aspirin with honey a couple of times. They made the skin on my forehead, chin and cheeks really soft but for some reason the skin on my nose went completely dry. It started peeling off like crazy, which I at first thought was the aspirin's fault and stopped using it. After that, I've been moistening my face with water ~3-4 times a day. I also started to moisturize with lotion that I know for sure smoothens skin, but none of it has improved the condition of my skin.
So basically I'm at this point where I don't know how to continue anymore and I need help.
I'm not very good with explaining things like that, so maybe a picture will help.
( here )
Thanks in advance for your help!

I was wondering how I could get rid of old pimples/scars on my face? It's not too bad but I'd like to get rid of them without having to blow a bunch of cash on useless products. |

Anyone have suggestions on the ideal hair length for waxing armpits, legs, chest, pubic region, and beard?(I'm guessing this is mostly women so not expecting much on the beard thing ;) ) |

| » she's baaaaaack (and it's my face this time). |
i have shit insurance, a shit doctor, a shit derm, etc. i have just about every topical, though- OTC and prescription. i was getting some nasty bacne for a minute, but that's going away now, but now my face is looking to' up. i'm thinking it's hormonal, as i just started a birth control pill again, loestrin 24 fe, 3 days ago (coincidentally, to clear up my back). i've taken aviane/aleese before and it helped my skin, but i seemed to gain weight on it, so i'm stuck.
anyone have any experience with these aforementioned BCs? anyone swear by a BC that keeps you clear and doesn't make you gain crazy weight? should i try ortho? i can't afford yaz.
i do take vitex/chasteberry, an herb used to regulate hormones which i dunno if it's helping.
also, the doc gave me some antibiotics for my skin (doxycycline) and i threw up this morning after i took 'em. i'll try again tomorrow with food, even though it's supposed to be taken on any empty stomach, and even though I HATE TAKING ANTIBIOTICS AS I AM PRETTY MUCH A NATURAL MEDICINE GIRL AND KNOW HOW BAD THEY ARE FOR YOU IN THE LONG RUN.
one more thing, my skin is pretty dry lately (i've stopped tanning since december, i moisturize like a fiend, take omegas, drink at least 8 BOTTLES of water daily, and i use a humidifer), but it's still dry. and no, it's not eczema. i got rid of that by doing cleanses.
any input (birth control shout outs, supplement suggestions, etc) would be appreciated soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much.

So I have a roommate who uses these products by Erno Laszlo. Specifically: -the sea mud soap bar -active phelityl oil -active phelityl lotion
they looked intriguing and upon asking her what was in them, she said "i don't know, but they're pretty amazing, you should try them!" and proceeded to shove me in a bathroom with the products. well, i am someone who has been struggling with stupid little breakouts for quite some time, and i know this sounds like an exaggeration, but this morning when i woke up, my skin was like 95% better. i then went to look up the products online, but unfortunately they cost about $40 for each individual item, and i'm not really willing to spend $120....although this product is amazing ahhh
so basically, are there any comparable (and cheaper) products out there?? thanks!

| » Oh No |
Ever since grade five, i've had massive skin trouble. Just one thing after another. It's a lot better these days, but still irritating beyond belief. So heres my list of issues:
- My skin peels on my nose - VERY noticeable blackheads on m nose, cheeks, and between my eyebrows - occasional pimple or two under my nose (but they literally take months to go away)
i currently use or have tried:
- oxy pads (use) - neutrogena moisturizer (use; not moisturizing enough) - revlon blackhead extractor (used; piece of crap, really) - beauti control: all clear toner (use) - biore strips (used; gets almost nothing out)
aaaand nothing has truly worked so far.
my biggest concern is my blackheads at the time being, so HELP?! products, anything? they're very deep, and some i just cant get out for the life of me. i know about the steam technique and that didnt work for me either
IM DESPERATE

| » ....HELP?! |
I'm having a serious problem with my skin (mostly on my face) and I've reached the end of my rope.
I have combination skin (dry on my forehead, oily from my cheeks down) and right now I'm going through bad break outs. I've tried everything (drinking water, making sure to keep my hair pinned up to keep in from my face, eating healthier and not touching my face too much) but right now, my face looks terrible. I've got whiteheads all along the scalp region, and my nose/mouth areas have two nasty looking blotches on them (my skin is peeling!).
I've tried everything to stop pimples from forming (mostly drinking water and cleaning my face with a astringent, finishing with a moisturizer) but I've gotten pimples all along the mouth region.
I'm at the end of my ropes. Luckily, I have two weeks off to relax (I think another reason why my skin is breaking out) and thus have time to go and find what I need.
So please, can anyone recommend products that:
- Prevent pimples from forming. - Stop skin from peeling. - Slowly get rid of my acne scars.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have relatively clear skin on my face, aside from an occasional break out on or near my chin ( I touch my face too much) My liquid intake consists of water and green tea. When I eat it is mainly veggies. Yet I have a bad break out on my upper back. I try regular bar soap, Nutregena body wash, other body washes... nothing works! Anyone have some suggestions? I'd appreciate it! Take care

| » Fast Acting Skin Care |
So, this morning I woke up to some great news: my older sister bought me a plane ticket for the Bahamas in two weeks and I'm vacationing with them over my spring break.
Unfortunately, there's a bit of a storm cloud hovering over this fantastic opportunity. My skin. Now, I've never had great skin but I have gotten down to a manageable situation and it's definitely gotten better as I've gotten older. However, during the winter the skin around my chest, shoulders, and back always breaks out and frequently. This winter I've been washing with Neutrogena's body wash, which helps but hasn't done as great of a job as I would like.
I'm beseeching you members of this community for any recommendations on a fast acting product that can manage to put a dent in my body break outs and the redness of my skin in the small window of time I have. I'm not looking for a miracle and my expectations are realistic. Something that I could pick up at a store and not over the internet would be especially great. Any other tips of words of advice would aso be welcome since I'm sure next winter I'll be searching for something else to help do the trick.
Thanks in advance!

| » OMG |
Ok girls i HAD to share this with you, i am SOOOOOO happy right now! So, i decided to make my own face mask recipe. I took a small container and mixed in honey, cayenne red pepper, lime juice and hot water. It was mostly honey though, seriously. I would say it's 90% honey, with 5% lime juice, and 5% water. I didn't even mention the cayenne in that, because litereally it was the TINIEST pinch.
I took a bath, smothered it on my face, waited about 6 or 7 minutes, and then washed it off. My skin is really sensitive so i was nervous about the results, but about half an hour later when i got out of the bath my skin was RADIANT. It was insane! The results were like instantaneous, i was sooo thrilled. And i've been breaking out a ton recently. A bunch of the small bumps that i could feel were about to become zits are gone now! It's incredible! And i've been waisting like 70 bucks on super expensive face masks and crap - and this works better than any of that.
I hoep it works for you guys too! Try it out, let me know! xoxo

| » cleansing helps! |
For anyone with general health/beauty/skin problems, I subscribe to the whole "your colon and the rest of your organs need to be clean" hype. I even bought the Dual Action Cleanse for 40 or 50 bucks at CVS (the one that has a stupid infomercial on tv every single night at like 3am). That was one of the many cleansing methods I tried, but I always go back to this two-part cleanse made by Nature's Secret:
http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Secret-Detoxification-Cleansing-120-Count/dp/B0000533I2/ref=tag_dpp_lp_edpp_ttl_ex
I usually buy it at Whole Foods for 27 bucks, but evidenced by that link, I guess you can get it online for even cheaper. Anyway, those two bottles not only keep me "regular" (sorry!), which contributes to better skin, less bloat, more hotness, etc., but they're just good for your health in general. I have more energy when I take them consistently, and I feel like I absorb vitamins and minerals better 'cus I'm all cleaned out and stuff (again, sorry!). I swear, when I took this cleanse consistently for 3 months, my skin was glowing and I'd lost a few lbs- all due to being "regular", and having some pristine organs!
Obviously, like any other supplements, you should talk to your doc first. I'm an herb enthusiast, so I did see a Naturopath as well as a regular doc, and these have had no bad effects on me. One bottle contains herbs that help clean your colon out regularly without the risky/yucky side effects of laxatives, and the other bottle contains herbs that keep your liver and other organs clean and functioning.
Next, although the cleanse helps, I took it for granted, and took a two month break from it out of laziness, and being head over heels in love/drama. And now I'm breaking out all over my back and chest. I've tried nearly EVERY topical (which helped minimally). But I also started my cleanse again, and am taking a sh/tload of supplements (all my multis, zinc, b5, some hebrs for hormone regulation since the pill doesn't like me), and although It's improving, i'm still breaking out because when you clean yourself out from the inside, it takes a month to show on the outside sometimes. On top of that, My skin is uber dry from winter and or/stress, so I'm using zinc oxide, desitin baby rash stuff, calendula ointment, and a humidifer. Oh, and fish oil, flaxseed oil, and lots of h20 too. Any other suggestions to speed up the process, dry skinned girls with bacne?
FINALLY, for sale. Unopened BRAND NEW Retin- A Micro .04%. I've been using this for years (for acne- although, it's good for wrinkles and general skin health and really HAS helped scarring on my face tremendously), but recently wanted to give my skin a break since it's so dry from the winter, and I have an abundance of Retin- A stashed already. So if anyone is interested in buying it for $25 (this includes s&h costs), let me know! I'm pretty sure this stuff usually runs around $45-$50. This, without a doubt, helped my acne, but even more (since I help to prevent acne with cleanses) made my scarring so much better.

Hi everyone! I really need help. :) I have two questions.
1. How do you take care of your skin when you are sick? My skin gets dry and red and i break out and get zits on my chin and nose. Any way to prevent this?
2. For stretch marks - does coconut oil or butter really work, or is it a myth? Thanks!
xoxo

I've been a member forever, and then some, but never post.
I used to go to the beach alot (when I lived in Florida), then when I moved to Baltimore (for a year), I used tanning beds (and got somewhat addicted, went every other day). Now I'm nearing 27, and although I still get IDed (thank goodness). I'm starting to examine my skin more and more everyday. As of right now, I don't tan at all, but I miss being tan. I can't stand being pale.
So carrying on to my question, since I'm trying to be good to my skin and take care of it. What is the best self tanner you have used? (face, and body friendly)
