I can't believe it, but I am finally writing a full-length Profiler fic. Gosh. The amazing thing is that Profiler was my very first fandom, and yet this has not happened until now. I hope you guys enjoy my first venture into writing something in this fandom that isn't a drabble or a ficlet.

Scarlet and Grace (Chapter One)

This month your challenge is to write a fic in which a character is acting in an uncharacteristic manner. Perhaps Jack is cursing and groping women. Maybe Grace offers a stranger money to sleep with her unaware it's Jack. Frannie could find religion and need Jack to remind her she doesn't belong in a convent. Or maybe Sam starts confessing to sexual fantasies about Jack in the middle of the VCTF. The only catch is that there must be a clear reason or explanation for the out of character behavior - IE teaching someone a lesson, drunk, setting a trap, a disease altering their perceptions, etc.

Your fic can be any length. The only requirements are that either Jack or one of his ladies are acting uncharacteristically and that there is a reason behind it. Go serious and sad or silly and fun.

Over at profiler_fans where I also moderate, we're having a Secret Santa Gift Exchange. Basically you sign-up, make a wish list, and then are assigned a person to gift. Over at profiler_fans, an affiliated community I mod at, we're having a Secret Santa Exchange. It's a Profiler themed gift exchange in which people sign-up and exchange gifts of fics, fanmixes, icons, vids, etc. A number of skewers have signed-up including myself and my lovely co-mod empty_marrow.

This is the time of year that I start coming up with Challenges for the next year. I'd love to have some suggestions.

Also, since roman_romantic pointed out that I haven't signed up for the current fanfiction challenge and I can't really give prompts to myself, I've commented and anyone in the comm who wishes to give me a set of Halloween or Fall prompts may do so here.

We haven't had much participation in challenges lately but I've noticed people running drabble memes in their journals, so I thought we'd try a drabble meme challenge :o)

Comment to this post with a skewed pairing and I'll comment back to you with two prompts. You may use one or the other or even combine them.

Since it's autumn, I'll give you fall or Halloween prompts. You may specify which you'd prefer or just see what I give you. I may give you a word prompt like - pumpkins, a picture like - a pumpkin patch, or even a song - like perhaps something that figured prominently in a horror film like Dead Things from American Psycho 2 - not great examples but you get the general idea.

If you think you'd like more than one set of prompts, you may request up to 3 sets or 6 prompts intially. If you complete some of them, you're welcome to come back and request more. If I give you a song prompt, I'll try to give you a link to the lyrics and I'll give you an MP3 so you can hear it and I'm posting the obligatory statement that this is meant as a sample and that according to RIAA guidelines you should delete it in 24 hours, etc.

Author's Notes: This is for my lovely friend moonvoice who had been craving some Jack/Samantha non-con. I tried very hard to write something that has a lot of psychological complexity and that could take the characters to a very dark place without making them unredeemable. The result was a very long and dark tale that is probably my darkest piece to date. The rape in this story is very graphic and as realistic as possible - it is about violence and not about sex. I tried very hard to capture the mixed feelings of love and hate a woman feels when someone she loves betrays her in the worst way possible.

I wanted to remind people that forsaken_fandom is taking nominations now through August 15. Forsaken Fandom is a multi-fandom awards community which is for fandoms that have few or no awards. Profiler is included in the current round of awards along with many other fandoms including Blood Ties, Forever Knight, and Red Dwarf, to name a few.

So far there haven't been any nominations in Profiler, but there's still lots of time. So please check out forsaken_fandom start nominating or even consider signing up as a judge.






Jack/Sam get their own special category this round due to Skew dominating the Profiler category last time. So if you're interested in judging but don't have a lot of time, you could sign up as a judge just for skew!

There are a lot of new categories this year and with the re-working we think the awards will be even better this year! Stop by forsaken_fandom and take part today!

I wanted to let people know that forsaken_fandom has opened up nominations for Round 2 of the Forsaken Fandom Awards. Profiler is on the list of fandoms being included in this round of awards and I'd like to encourage you all to come and participate.


Round 1 was a bit bumpy, it was our first Awards, so we've made some alterations to the rules and our format which we hope will remedy some of the problems we had the first time around. We want to be up front about what didn't work and the changes we've implemented to hopefully improve the awards and make them better. Our biggest problems the first time were an inordinate number of ties in several fandoms, people not knowing they could self-nominate and one or two ships dominating the categories.

To solve these issues we've revised the format the judges will be using, as well as the voting which should reduce and hopefully eliminate any ties. We're screening the nominations for privacy in the hopes of making people more comfortable about nominating themselves and anyone else - there's nothing wrong with wanting attention for your work and a lot of people don't nominate a person or work because they assume someone else will. And lastly, three of the fandoms included last time were largely dominated by a particular ship. It would be unfair to exclude those ships but at the same time we feel some balance is needed to make things fair to the rest of the fandom. For this reason any ship which had 40% or more of the nominations will be given it's own category. This is not intended to favor any ship or give it special treatment, rather it's a measure to level the playing field to make the awards fun and fair to as many people are possible.

We have decided based on the quanity of nominations from Round 1 that Skew - Jack/Sam will be in it's own category. Other Jack pairings will tenatively be with the rest of Profiler but may be moved if any of them seem to dominate the awards. It's great that Skew is so active, we just want to make sure everyone is included as much as possible.

Nominations will be open from now through 8/15
