I'm looking for a place that will possibly buy my old computer tower / parts from it. Does anyone know of such a place?
I know that I could likely go to a pawn shop around here, but I didn't know if I maybe could get a better deal from any computer stores for individual parts?
...and in case YOU were wondering, chances are you wouldn't want to buy it. It's a tower I've had all throughout high school & college (maybe 8ish years?). It still works fine, but it's real out of date, by computer standards.

| Futon for sale |
[01 Jul 2008|01:02pm] |
It's a bit early for incoming students, but for anyone who may be watching this community and looking for a cheap piece of apartment furniture, I have a futon for sale for $50 (cash only).
The frame is in great shape, the mattress is OK, but it's been a mattress for a few years and isn't as cushy as it once was, but it still sleeps and sits fairly well. I also have a mattress cover that zips up over the mattress itself and can be thrown into the washing machine for easy maintenance.
The whole thing comes apart and goes back together with just an Allen wrench.
I'd prefer that whoever wanted it come to pick it up themselves, but for a little extra $$, I can haul it to your place.
You can reach me by email at rusti.knight at gmail.com

Hello all - Thanks for the suggestions and calendar links from my last post to the SIUC Community, they were great! I've got a restaurant for you if you're looking for something a bit off the beaten path - the Midland or Midway Inn, I can try to get more info about it if you're interested - as I recall, it felt a bit south and west of town.
Anyways, my mom was asking me if we (in Columbia, MO) have the same kind of parking meters with the "free" option - what!? Does anyone know what she was talking about and if so what the free option is all about/who it works for/how it works? It could be an imagination figment but I thought I'd check just in case.
Happy summer!

The Gender Public Advocacy Coalition is pleased to announce the release of its 2008 GENIUS Survey in partnership with Ernst & Young. GenderPAC works to ensure that classrooms, communities and workplaces are safe for everyone to learn, grow and succeed. The Gender Equality National Index for Universities & Schools (GENIUS), GenderPAC’s most recent effort to end discrimination and promote awareness, encourages colleges and universities to recognize the benefits of a GenderSAFEtm campus - supportive equitable and protective for all students. Choosing to participate in GENUIS sends a strong public statement that bullying or discriminating based on the race, sex or gender of a student, faculty, or staff member is not tolerated at your institution Fill out the survey at: www.gpac.org/GENIUS2008survey, and make sure that we have data for as many schools as possible. Your voice will help us continue to work towards a safe and welcoming environment for every student. *While we greatly appreciate the interest taken in GENIUS by students, staff, and faculty at academic institutions outside of the United States, at this time GENIUS is only able to track schools based in the U.S.

| stuff to do? |
[15 Apr 2008|10:18am] |
Does anyone know of anything fun happening in Carbondale this weekend (and if the university/community happen to have a calendar for future reference)? (Earth Day events or anything like that, maybe if there is a film series?)
I'm coming to town to visit the parents and I'm not sure if they do anything other than walk their dog and they just moved there this summer...
So really any suggestions of things to do (ever) would be cool, it doesn't have to be specific to this weekend - we've been to eat at the Thai place, to some of the parks in the area (Giant City sticks out in my head) and to 17th Street BBQ in Murphysboro. Oh, also they go to the Farmer's Market on 13 (Main) sometimes so that's about all I know of to do in Carbondale.

Does anyone happen to have a bow that I could borrow for a photoshoot? A quiver would be nice also, if you happened to have one.
Dick's Sporting Goods doesn't do rentals. haha!
Please let me know.
P.S. Thanks to all who replied to my earlier ad for models. If you replied and haven't heard back from me yet, please let me know. I'm sorry if I didn't...it's just been real hectic lately with shoots. Many thanks to those who I have already shot...and plenty thanks also to those that applied, and are still waiting for me to get to them. I still need one or two male models, I believe, so the application process is still open if you or anyone you know is still interested. The details are below. Many many females showed their interest. If you are reading this, I haven't cut anyone yet, and I am still going through them. Please be patient :-)
I will post the details of my show when the date comes closer.

Hello!
I just joined and I am not a student, but I've been accepted at SIU for my Ph.D. in English Lit. Are there any graduate students from the English department on this list willing to give me the dirt talk about the program and the department culture?
Thanks!

| benefit concert! |
[15 Oct 2007|11:31pm] |
On august 20th, Luke McGill experienced one of the greatest fears of many of us. He lost his home to due to an electrical fire. Being one of the more fortunate ones, the house didn't burn to the ground, but it did leave two men homeless. For the past two months, these two have been jumping around house to house of their loving friends and family. The house can be fixed; however, damages are exceeding $6000, a sum that most cannot endure. So, come and enjoy some great music from various local artists and help us reach our destination of $6000 and saving Luke's home. Winter is just around the corner, give Luke a safe, warm place to sleep once again.
The benefit will be held Sunday, October 21st on the Benton Square Pavilion. It will begin at 1:30 and last until the final band has finished. The lineup includes: Kristin Webb, Caleb Phalin, and Caleb Webb 1:30-3:00 Concrete Cradle 3:00-4:30 Jared Webb and Caleb Webb 4:30-6:00 The Darren Galloway Band 6:00-?
Come out and enjoy some great music and help us reach our goal of $6,000!!!

| Looking for models for my final |
[26 Mar 2007|12:17pm] |
Hey everyone. I'm hoping to get some volunteers through here.
As some of you already know, I'm a photography major here. It's that time of year for me to start working on my final portfolio for exams in May.
My final portfolio is going to be of classic black and white nudes. It's going to be very body-as-landscape themed rather than erotica. My inspiration for this was early Robert Mapplethorpe prints, when he did his formalism nudes. Along with the nudes, I'm wanting to have a sexual orientation theme undertones for it...however, the focus is not on sexual orientation, but again more of the body-as-landscape.
Models I'm looking for: - Solo male - Solo female - Heterosexual couples - Gay male couples - Gay female couples (don't have one yet)
All shooting will be taking place at the studio bays in the Communications bldg on campus. If you are nice enough to model for me, I do ask that you sign a model release form for me before the shoot. (All that legal protection crap, haha.)
So far, I have at least one shooting planned for all of the subjects except of the gay female couple. If you are interestedin modeling solo for me, or doing shots with your girlfriend / boyfriend, I would greatly appreciate it. If you aren't one for it, but know someone who might be, please pass this information along to them.
I will not be able to pay you since I'm a poor photography student, however I will gladly print out for you copies of the best prints from the photo shoot as a thank you.
If you are interested, please contact me when you can. I'm hoping to start shooting at the start-to-mid April. Leave either a comment on here, or my personal LJ, or feel free to e-mail me at hogiehut@yahoo.com
Thanks!
x-posted. sorry.

the siuc paintball team is looking for a few new people to help fill some vacancies. it's strictly speedball. previous tournament experience is certainly a plus. generally we have meetings every wednesday, though only a mandatory meeting once a month or so. however, if that makes anyone uncomfortable just showing up to a meeting like that we do have a booth reserved at the rso fair on thursday were one can get a better feel by meeting a few of the players that will be there. if thursdays are bad for anyone and you have questions, feel free to ask me on here.

| Looking for a lady.... |
[08 Nov 2006|02:43pm] |
Volunteer(s) needed for photo shoot Looking for a woman with a red dress.
Here is the scoop. I'm a photography major, and I have to do a shoot entitled "Color as Emotion". Here is was I was hoping to do:
I wanted to shoot a funeral/wake sort of scene. The location would be a graveyard...Lots of people in the background wearing black, crying, hugging, that sort of stuff. However, I wanted a tell sexy woman in the picture wearing a sexy (blood/firetruck) red dress showing no emotion, or maybe even smirking in a sly way.
With the dress, I was hoping for something plain, yet sexy. Prefer the sleek and smooth dress look, not with alot of frilly things or poofs? But I'm not going to turn anything down if I don't get what I want :-)
Also, if the woman owned a large pair of black sunglasses, and maybe a large brim black/gray hat, it might be useful also. Shoes will not be important, as I don't believe they will be in the shot. I would assume you should wear something comfortable. Makeup will be at your discretion.
I need the assignment by Tuesday, so I was hoping to shoot on Friday or maybe the weekend.
I will not be able to pay you for your time spent with me, but I will be more than happy to give you copies of the photoshoots if you please.
I really need a volunteer girl for this. If you can do it, please respond to this, or e-mail me at hogiehut@yahoo.com
If possable also, could you also send me a picture of the red dress you would plan on wearing. Preferally with you in it? It would really be helpful in planning the shoot.
Thanks. Kyle

Do you know anyone who might be driving from New York City to the Carbondale area between now and Christmas? I have a small table--measures 3x3x4 feet--that's important to me and I need to get it out of someone's apartment before the last week of 2006. Let me know. Post here or write to me at dabroots @ gmail.com
