Sin City

I was stunned to hear native Las Vegans utter the most common laments (which is almost any city's downfall); "There's nothing to do and nowhere new to go." and "It is so hard to meet intelligent people here." But with a sprawling city this size, the truth is the city is just bursting with clusters of activity. The problem is not that there is nothing to do, it's that no one knows what's going on where and do not know where to look.

Sure, local publications are bogged down with poor writing and mucked up opinions and the only place most people consider a hot spot of culture is the Strip... which everyone has 'done' so many times the flair and fire have long since burnt into boring familiarity. No all of us enjoy hip-hop and rap music blared into our skulls, in an over crowded dance club - some of us enjoy an intelligent conversation about local issues.

Sin City is like word of mouth only wildly more efficient. It's a community of common interests, fans of local artists and reviewers of local movies, shows, and restaurants. The gathering place of individuals who live in the Las Vegas valley, who want to know about each other and items of interest in the valley, from fellow residents of the valley. A modern vision of Las Vegas with tributes to its past.

Sin City deals with all issues and items of interest regarding Las Vegas, by and for residents of the Las Vegas valley, and absolutely nothing else.

Sin City is run by two moderators who simply got tired of the other lame communities, asking 'Why are we seing another lame tourist question?' We have made a commitment to the common pursuit of entertainment and information; to the pursuit of having a productive and enjoyable life here in the Las Vegas valley. We've also committed ourselves to keeping this community on topic, consistent, and up to date. "Hi my name is... Add me to your friends list!" posts will be ritualistically burned at the altar of good livejournal communities. Introductions are not nessecary, and in fact are a violation of netiquette. If & when you make your first post, sharing some information or review please feel free to share with us a little about what you have to offer the community; your interests, the places you frequent, your taste in bands... more than your name and your current state of boredom. Sin City does not offer a personals section - there are better places for that sort of thing.

Sure, there are a 101 different reasons why some would consider living in Las Vegas is less than exciting. But regardless, we have to live here and be entertained here. So use Sin City like a tool. A well maintained, constantly evolving tool.

Use it with bravado. Enjoy.

The community was originally created by beatnikside, who unfortunitely moved away to Seattle and turned it over to 3vil_1 and irishmasms in June 2005.


In Summation: I really only ask two things of community members: that they stay on topic, and that they respect their fellow members. More specifically:
1. Pictures larger than 300x300 or multiple images must be placed behind an lj cut. Learn How in the LiveJournal FAQ. Many people are still on dial up access, and a good web designer/publisher is considerate of all web users.
2. If you're unsure if your post is off topic, place behind an LJ cut. If a post is deemed wildly inappropriate for the community, a community moderator will contact the member via email with instructions. It would be best & highly suggested to contact one of the community moderators first if there is any doubt.
3. This is not a friend whoring community. No "Add me to your friends list" intro posts.
4. Plagiarism is punishable by unnecessary violence. Or it should be. What you say here should be in your own words or given a proper by-line.
5. This is an intelligent adult forum. Period. Hence - no drama (Debates and arguments are fine, but bad drama will cause you to be banned).
6. The Moderators are here for you. If someone is abusive to you, if someone is spam posing or behaving inappropriately please contact one of us ASAP providing a link. We will research the problem, and handle the situation to the best of our abilities; and/or report them to lj_abuse. We will then reply to your email, ensuring the situation was resolved.
The key thing is this: if you are being abused here or inappropriate content is being posted, it is your responsibility to let me know - not to take matters into your own hands. Otherwise, the moderators will not know & will be unable to handle the situation.
8. Netiquette is important to the success of the community & the Internet as a whole. Learn it, love it.
