| Danny Aiello channels Sinatra for his new CD |
[01 Aug 2008|05:04pm] |
|
Danny Aiello got to channel Sinatra by meeting him during one of his last performances! AND THEN getting to perform IN THE COPA ROOM for his new cd "Live In Atlantic City"
Check it out: For Academy Award nominated actor Danny Aiello’s second CD he was inspired by Atlantic City, Sinatras old stomping ground. It was the place where old blue eyes performed his final public US concert while Danny Aiello watched from the audience. “My wife Sandy and I got a call from my agent inviting us down to Atlantic City to see the show and meet Frank. I loved Sinatra and jumped at the chance not knowing what to expect. He was everything and more and the Copa Room, well, it was the perfect setting.” Ten years later Aiello recorded his debut CD. Five days after the release, Danny Aiello made his Billboard Chart debut! His first album I Just Wanted To Hear The Words hit the Billboard Traditional Jazz Chart at #4, the highest new entry that week, just behind Harry Connick Jr., Winton Marsalis and Diana Krall. And so it is fitting when a friend suggests in 2005 that he record one of those Atlantic City shows, preferably from The Sands so he and his band could preserve a little history for themselves, Aiello agrees, “Given Sinatra’s history on that stage and my memories of seeing him there, the Sands really captured the spirit of the resort’s history among the excitement of a new Atlantic City. For me, it made perfect sense.” A lifelong resident of New York City, Danny Aiello began acting in his mid 30's. With a reputation for no-holds-barred stage and screen performances which are brimming with honest emotion. Aiello received unanimous acclaim including Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for Best Supporting Actor, and was named Best Supporting Actor by the Los Angeles, Boston and Chicago Film Critics Associations.

I'm new 'round here; hiya! *waves*
Name: Amara Age: 21 Location: Vancouver, Washington Favorite Frank film: Unfortunately I've only seen one so far, so I'd have to say Ocean's 11. Favorite Frank song: I'm quite partial to "Fly Me To The Moon," "I've Got The World On A String," "Something Stupid," "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown," & "New York, New York." I can never resist singing along ♥ How and when did you first discover Frank: Well, I've always known who he was, but it's only been within the last 2-3 years that I've been paying more active attention; a Christmastime trip to Vegas last year only amplified the love :D How did you stumble across here? LJ Search! Any other comments: I was absolutely, positively born in the wrong era, heh. Certainly I'm not the only one who feels the same way? ('Cause I could certainly use some more like-minded LJ friends) :]

New update on Nothing But The Best's sales numbers.
I have the updated Soundscan numbers. Last week, NBTB sold 54,143. Which brings the total to 153,481 - about 11K more than I predicted in my previous post.
Way to go, Ol' Blue Eyes!

| Nothing But The Best debuted at #2! |
[28 May 2008|07:06am] |
I don't know how I missed this, but last week, Nothing But The Best debuted at #2 on the Billboard albums chart. This week he's expected to drop to #4 with 49,034 sold - a 47% drop. With CD sales in the toilet right now, this actually isn't too bad.
If I use the fact that 49,034 is 53% of last week's sales, I calcuated that the first week sales were approx. 92,517. Of course, the numbers are from Hits Daily Double, and they're always close but not exact to Soundscan's totals, but this means approx. 141,551 sold in two weeks...not bad for a traditional pop compilation album.
ETA: I got hold of last week's Soundscan numbers...oddly enough from a hip-hop forum. (Google Search FTW) They placed first week sales at 99,338. So if I add this week's numbers from HDD and last week's Soundscan numbers, it places total sales at 148,372. Once I find out this week's Soundscan numbers, I'll be able to give a more precise number for total sales. It could be more than what I just calculated, and it could be less, but only by about a few thousand probably.

This version of Body And Soul is a previously unreleased vocal with a newly-recorded orchestration by Frank Sinatra, Jr.
Big news, though, my friends!!
There will be at least three exclusive versions of this CD:
USPS version with the exclusive track, I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter
Starbucks version with the exclusive track, The Coffee Song.
CD/DVD which includes the bonus DVD, Sinatra In Concert At Royal Festival Hall.
I don't know about you, but I plan on getting all three versions (much to the chagrin of my boyfriend, I'm sure!)
(Many thanks to Bob from the SFF for listing the album tracks and keeping up with the exclusive editions of the CD!)
Why, oh why, can't May come a little faster?! =)

The Shadow Of Your Smile - Frank Sinatra |
] |
For those of you who don't know, the TV station, Turner Classic Movies/TCM, will be celebrating the life of The Voice by presenting "Sinatra and His Movies" during the month of May.
Every Sunday and Wednesday they will be airing various movies that Ol' Blue Eyes himself starred in, including some favorites such as From Here to Eternity, Pal Joey, Frank Sinatra: A Man & His Music and much, much more!
TCM has just released a show schedule for the month of "Sinatra and His Movies," which can be found at TCM's website.
I have printed this schedule out and posted it near my TV as a reminder to record all of these lovely shows. My DVR will be FULL by the end of May, I'm sure =)
Ah, May sure is going to be the BEST month this year!
Spring is here again... Birds on the wing again...
