Round 3, Challenge 1, LIMS: Voting
Welcome to Round 3, Challenge 1, LIMS voting!
Thanks to all who entered! Disqualified for not entering:
princesstomb.
Please take a moment to read the voting how-to's here.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU READ THE RULES CAREFULLY. If you don't follow the rules, I will NOT count your vote.
VOTING RULES:
* Voting will end Tuesday, March 4, at 9 PM (CST). I do ask that you vote if you entered as it will be most appreciated. You do not need to be a participant to vote.
* Vote for icons you feel are lesser quality. Vote on the quality and technical elements of the icon, not personal style preferences. This entry here will help you in this area. It's important to read the community voting information here, as it outlines specifics for this community. I'll post them below for this challenge only. I doubt any of you will have problems with these minor rules.
*Comment to this post with your vote for 3 lesser-quality icons. Again, you must provide a reason for your vote. If you do not provide an explanation as to why you consider the icon to be of lesser quality your vote will not be counted. I will post the comments for each icon with the results, anonymously.
*After selecting the 3 lesser quality icons, please select 1icon that is your favorite. Please provide a reason as to why the icon is your favorite.
Here's an example of how to vote:
002 - The brush used is too bold and the text is hard to read. Perhaps reducing the opacity of the brush layer will help. I liked the way you cropped this.
008 - I like the idea but the overall result didn't work well. Maybe chaning the brush, or the font, or the coloring of the texture might help.
011 - Too sharp. I sometimes use a heavy blur layer set to soft light or luminance to reduce the sharpness if the original image is not of good quality. The coloring is quite good.
FAVORITE
005 - Great overall composition. The coloring is great, love the cropping, and the brush works well with everything else.
OTHER COMMENTS:
007 - Had problems with the text in this as it's too faint, but the rest is great!
Use this form if you'd like. Just right click, select all, then copy. You would then paste it into your comment, change the 000's to the icon number, and enter your reasons, etc.

1. When voting, you WILL be asked to eliminate icons, however we will do this in a way that will not mentally BASH the contestants. Meaness, bashing, and rudeness are unacceptable. Please don't let your comments be influenced by your personal style, biases, and tastes, or, if you think you know who made the icon. Whereever possible please suggest a remedy for what you didn't like about the icon or what you felt detracted from the icon. Please try to make every effort to include something positive in your comments on the icon.
2. You will also be asked to select a favorite icon and provide reasons for your selection (there's a little more latitude here and more personal reasons allowed to a greater degree, but technical reasons are more beneficial).
3. If you choose to comment on other entries for which you aren't voting, please do so under another header, "Other Comments."
4. I will reply to your comments if I feel they need to be adjusted for tone or quality (e.g., express a more technical reason, etc.).
5. You may vote for this contest without actually entering an icon, however if you break any of the voting rules your vote will not count nor will it be made public.
6. If you break any of the voting rules your vote will not count nor will it be made public.
7. We're voting for technical reasons. If blue isn't your favorite color, that isn't the correct reason to vote off an icon. We're looking for quality, style, crop, color usage, text, font and anything else that comes to mind when you look at the overal composition of an icon. Dont simply disregard something that doesn't "look like it was changed much." I will try each week to provide a link to the original image in the voting post so as to make it easier to compare.
Examples of acceptible reasons:
A. Image is too pixelated.
B. Cropping is awkward. Maybe you should have cropped a smaller area to work with.
C. Over sharpened.
D. Image is too blurry. I don't think it works well with your icon.
Examples of unacceptible reasons:
A. I don't like the brushes you used.
B. Your icon is yukky!
C. Do you really know what an icon is?
2. You will also be asked to select a favorite icon and provide reasons for your selection (there's a little more latitude here and more personal reasons allowed to a greater degree, but technical reasons are more beneficial).
