i had an idea for a zine that i think could turn out really well.
no title yet, but here is what i want: photos of you, your friends, anybody who has a love of black and white cinema, anybody who would choose casablanca over any modern-day romantic movie, anybody who would readily hop in a time machine and go back to the roaring 20s to do the charleston with clara bow and joan crawford, i want to see you, all dolled up and looking like your favorite star, and i want to put it in my zine.
there is no limit to how many people can pose as a certain star, so if i end up with six marilyn monroes and three greta garbos it won't matter. please make your photo as realistic as possible. you don't have to have a drastic haircut or major plastic surgery or anything like that, but please try to choose clothing and accessories that match the star you've selected. wigs are totally acceptable as well.
also, ladies, if you'd like to dress up as your favorite male star, that is totally fine. same goes for men who want to pose as their favorite female star.
the only requirements are as follows:
-that you submit the photo to me in digital format, that is to say, you take the photo with a digital camera or scan a print. the photo must be in black and white. image manipulation programs like photoshop can easily suck the color out of your photo. if you don't know how to do this, you may send the photo to me and i will do it myself. no problems.
-if you do not have a scanner or digital camera, you may mail the print to me and i can scan it for you. i will return any photos that are submitted in this manner. digital is preferred, but i understand that some people do not have expensive cameras or scanning equipment. also, if you choose to mail a print, it does not have to be black and white, i can take care of that with photoshop. don't go and spend twice as much money on black and white film to send me one photo. that's just a waste of money.
-the actor/actress must be from the years 1910-mid 1940s. if i get a large enough response i will make separate zines for each ten-year period. please don't forget some of our earliest stars such as lillian gish, theda bara, buster keaton, etc.
-when you submit your photo, please include with it a paragraph or two explaining why you chose your particular star. it doesn't have to be anything fancy, but don't act like you're in second grade either and write something like "i chose james cagney because he is cute. he is also a very good actor." i know that all of you are capable of producing good written material. and if you love a star so much that you're willing to take a photo of yourself in his/her likeness, you can certainly write something reverent about him/her as well.
-that you tell a friend about this project! seriously, i want to get as many people involved with this as i can, and word of mouth could really help me out.
in addition to photos, i plan to also include a biography of each star, so any information you can give me about a lesser-known actor/actress would certainly be nice. i would also like to include a photo of each star, but i am not sure what to do as far as copyrights are concerned. anyone who could help me out with that, well, i would certainly appreciate it.
this is being cross-posted to several communities. feel free to post it in any relevant communities you are a member of, as long as you include my livejournal username and e-mail address.
thanks!
