Romanticide

It was a beautiful day in heaven… God sat on his throne, which looked suspiciously like a recliner chair, and forced himself to watch the last half hour of Kaoru and Kyo's adventure in New York City. When they finally decided to hightail it back to Japan he snapped his fingers and the TV turned off. “I can't believe him,” he said with a sigh, rubbing his forehead.

Gabriel was nearby and leaned against the chair. “It makes a good sitcom, though, doesn't it?”

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. I may no longer be into Jrock or yaoi enough to read every entire word of my old “Hitch” series, but I would be a fool not to consider it one of my greatest achievements in writing, especially years later with much hindsight. “Hitch” (as many of you know), began way back in early 2005, and went on hiatus in June of 2007. After just two years, it became a universe of its own, spanning over 5 and half stories (because the sixth one was never completed), 11 oneshots and several hundreds of thousands of words—easily the largest work in fiction I’ve done to date.

Yes, it was the worst of times because the writing wasn’t as great as it could be if I penned it now, I was rather obsessive and a lot of what I wrote was just plain dumb, and a great portion of the Jrock fanfiction-loving population rebuked it openly on that one community for bitching and whining about things you hated to see in Jrock fanfiction. But it was still the best of times, because the creative juices were flowing, the series was popular, the characters became their own before Book 2, I was having fun, and who ultimately cared if people bitched about it on that one community? You know you’ve made it as a writer when your works are recognized across boundaries and people know enough about it to complain about it.

My first year of NaNoWriMo I wrote a story that I fell in love with—characters and all. Five years later, I’m returning to that setting and some of those characters to write a sort of spin-off. As I read Chris Baty’s words of wisdom and I embark on my noveling quest, I can’t help but realize that a lot of who I am today and what I love as a writer comes from my days as Shuichi, Author of the “Hitch” Series.

These are simultaneously jumbled tips for other authors who read this journal who'd like to laugh at me learn from me. Notes: Okay, there are actually no secret letters of love or hate in this story, I was just getting excited in the heat of asking plot directing, melodramatic questions. This is my first iCarly fic ever, though I have been a fan of the show for a long time, and writing fanfiction for an even longer time. This is a silly idea that came into my head, and I felt it had to be written. Please enjoy the fic. :)

My Dearest Readers,

You have all been so supportive, encouraging and generous! I've learned a lot about writing from all your comments and the words of praise or criticism you've given me. You've been the most WONDERFUL readers an author could ask for, so I'm sure you'll understand my reasons for this post, unhappy as they are.

Regretfully, I am putting this community on a hiatus. It boils down to two main reasons, which are:

1. I've lost a lot of interest in writing fanfiction. Right now I would love to focus more on my original fiction. I always wanted to be an author when I grew up, yet I spent more time writing original stories as a kid than I do now as a grown-up. I could publish something if I wanted to, but I haven't even written an original story in over a year. I want to write more of them again.

2. Real life has been keeping me busy enough that I couldn't possibly divide my time between fanfiction and original fiction. I got a new job where I'm often working 8-hr. days, I have friends and family who demand my attention, and I have "me time" to take care of, too. It's come to a point where I must choose between writing original works or sticking with FF. I really want to write real stories of my very own. That's always been my dream.

So I'm putting my fanfiction conquests on hiatus until I decide I'm ready to come back to them. I'm sorry to leave so much unfinished, but I have to live my life, and that can't include writing fanfiction forever.

I love you all and I'm grateful for every person who ever commented on any of my works. Hopefully this isn't an eternal farewell, but if it is, I wish you all the best of luck with your lives. Stay strong, and keep being amazing, supportive people. ♥

Hi everyone! You may have noticed a change in my username. Yes, this is still Shuichi, I just bought my own user name of sadie_k_adder because I would like to make that my penname. It's a really long story, but here are the finer points:

1. I don't know if I will ever really publish anything. If I do, though, I would love to have a silly penname like Lemony Snicket does. I would not want to publish any works using my real name because I hate my last name. And I'm just corny enough to want a silly penname just for the hell of it, too.

2. I want a name that people will remember. Sadie K. Adder is pretty attention-grabbing and catchy, isn't it? I hope so. It has a kind of rhythm to it, methinks.

3. I realize that I have established myself online as Shuichi. I don't have a problem with Shuichi and if you would still like to call me that, go for it. However, I am slowly going to rid myself of Shuichi as a penname. A) I find it boring and unoriginal. XD B) I am not Japanese and the Japanese prefer that foreigners don't go by Japanese names. I don't want to be offensive to a people that I mean the utmost respect for. C) I am Caucasian and I'm not ashamed of that so I'd like to have a name that instantly makes people feel that I'm Caucasian.

4. What's in a name? Dir en grey, Kyo, Daishi and Alice in Wonderland. I'm not even kidding. I pulled Sadie K. Adder from those, and for very good reasons. I'll let you guess how those specific loves of mine influenced the name. Some should be obvious while others are much less easy to figure out. XD

5. I was thinking about something a couple of weeks ago. In An Ardent Pledge I had my Kyo talk about how changing his name from Touru to Kyo was a transformation of sorts. I've been feeling the need for a transformation, which, I'm sure comes from this unquenchable desire to change my life. A couple of weeks ago I dyed my hair red. I also recently rearranged the furniture in my room. I quit my job a week ago. For a solid month now I have been writing a love story between a man and a woman rather than my usual yaoi fics. Now, I'm not saying that I'm giving up on writing yaoi - on the contrary. I simply would like to open up more doors for myself. For instance, I'm writing a Jrock het romance. I may write more in the future. I'll continue to write my regular stuff, though, for sure. And it's quite possible I'll be returning to my original fiction that I've missed so much - some of which, I might decide to share on here under a friends cut. :3

SO basically, shuichin has turned into sadie_k_adder, but they're still the same person. If anyone is confused about anything, feel free to ask me in a comment! I'm sorry to just fling this on you; I was going to wait a week and give you a warning, but I just decided to do it today on a whim. Sometimes it's liberating to act on a whim, isn't it!?
