Many of you know or have heard of the local New Orleans band, Overtone. What you may not know, is that after their last show, the bass player, Miguel, was driving home and his van was hit by a drunk driver. The driver went to jail, but Miguel's van was totalled...with all of the band's equipment inside. Miguel had some bruised ribs, and a few scratches on his face from the windshield. All in all, he was very lucky. But, of course, the drunk driver has no insurance, so the chances of his van being replaced, let alone the equipment, are slim to none.
So, because there isn't enough time while I am moving for me to organize a benefit show to raise money to help replace their equipment, in the spirit of Christmas and good will, I am asking for donations. Even something as small as $1 can help, especially if each of you post this in your journal's and spread the word. So, should you want to contribute to the "Overtone Re-stocking Fund" with Paypal, click below. If you are completely against the idea of paypal, Overtone is playing on borrowed equipment this Saturday night at the Howlin' Wolf. Come check out the band for yourself, support the local music scene, and wish the singer, Chris, a Happy Birthday. Mary amicablebitch and I will be at the show to collect cash or check donations if you want to help out. Thank you all and Happy Holidays.
Mary's original post about this is here.
If this is completely again the "rules", feel free to delete it.. I just thought this would be a good place to spread the word that local musicians need some help this Christmas. Thanks.

| » Last Night's Show |
Last night's show was awesome. Samurai Deli did an excellent job and all the little kiddies were rockin' out to them. I myself had trouble staying still. The Stereohypes went on next. I guess people were still reelin' from Samurai Deli, because a fuckton of people were outside just hanging around. Their show wasn't terrible, they just needed a little more enthusiasm. (By the way, a note to all you band kids: While your band is on stage do not say anything along the lines of "Feel free to move/dance," and the like- especially not several times after each song. It drains the energy and motivation from you and your bandmates- it also seems very desperate and unprofessional.) Up next was Fatter Than Albert, coming in full swing with high energy and groovy tunes. They rocked hard. Even the order of the songs was excellent. The only snag, which few caught, was during "Fever and Chills" when Charlie's mic wasn't working. Otherwise, I was amazed at their performance. They are truly a great band in the making. Of course MU330 kicked some ass. The whole house was moving and having a blast. They have a great "group mind" and were terrific with the audience. Their performance was fresh and high-powered. MU330 really carried the show, even performing an encore. Props to Short Bus Productions for putting on the show, and to the American Legion for hosting. Towards the end there was an old man flicking the lights. I swear he was thinking "Those damn whippersnappers!" However, as a crowd we managed ourselves very well. My only suggestion is for those potheads (the ones smoking in the parking lot behind the stage): either get your shit together and learn a thing or two about being nonchalant, or just expect the cops next time. It's fine if that's your thing, and that's what you do. However, that security guard did notice. Don't endanger the audience, bands, and guys running things just because you're retarded and can't smoke a joint without getting caught. Other than that we all got along, had a blast, and got a hell of a workout. The metric fuckton (bigger than a normal fuckton) of people there seemed to enjoy the show- including a slow-dance under the disco ball. (Those guys were great.) I hope you all enjoyed yourselves. If you couldn't make it, WTF!?! Next time, you should make it out and party with your buds. Upcoming show: The Toasters with Fatter Than Albert and New Blood Revolution at Tipitina's Uptown. Check Short Bus for all the info.
