Painting of my cat :0)

Painted from start to finish in Corel Painter. First time I've used the program! However I did something wrong (can't work out what - maybe pushed a random button very late last night when saving...?) and the final file has come out very very dark...

Introducing

an online magazine of Science Fiction & Fantasy with a twist

Crossed Genres is a new online magazine inspired by an altered version of the Genre Challenge ([info]genrechallenge).

Every month, Crossed Genres posts a new genre. Writers and artists have one month to submit stories and art that combine the chosen genre with some aspect of Science Fiction and/or Fantasy. All submissions are considered for publication (read the submission guidelines.) Crossed Genres will also contain interviews, and articles about the current genre, SF/F in general and the craft and business of writing. The Magazine is free! Please sign up to get the mailing list!

We also have a growing list of writer-related links (suggest a new one!), forums discussing all aspects of writing, and more!

So please visit the website, and sign up for the mailing list! The first genre has been posted and is accepting submissions for Issue #1, to be released December 1. Please consider making a submission!

Here are some of the drawings I've been working on lately. I've been really productive, so I made a selection of my favourite ones. Comments and constructive feedback are always appreciated!

Dani California,a runner, rebel, and a stunner, from the Red Hot Chili Peppers song. I did another drawing of her which you can find here on my DA account, it was quite popular when I posted it here at first.

X-posted to my journal and to illustrators. Please see my journal for more!

tea (Darjeeling tea), Japanese Sumo Ink (I swear this bottle is like 10 years old, finally almost empty!), and gold gouache. Let this sit for a while because I couldn't figure out how to lighten her up. Darjeeling tea stains dark very quickly, not light like some of the other's I've used, but I'm not fond of the flavor so it's been reduced to stain tea. I'll just have to keep remembering to hold off on the third 'coating'.

The Fall

Jun. 5th, 2008 | 06:30 am
posted by: [info]gymnopedie in [info]shiftingdreams

I am posting this here ( http://thefallthemovie.com/ ) because I went and saw this last night with my husband [info]siadhan. Absolutely visual. So many colors, and not relying on the 'magic' of cgi (i'm sure it was used) to carry the story across. I say definitely take a gander at seeing this if it comes to a theatre by you, or when it's out on DVD. I adored it.

Also... since I do believe we have many new folk, last year, I had been posting several 'ideas' for you all to use for inspiration... is this something you'd like me to do once a month or so? (take a look on the http://community.livejournal.com/shiftingdreams/profile page, scroll down and look at the links) ...if so, toss me some ideas, it can be of any genre.

A drawing inspired by the song of the same title, by Nightwish.

In your creation Heaven did decree
That in your arms sweet Death shall dwell

p.s. I haven't really cleaned up the image yet so you'll probably notice imperfections on it... I'll get to it eventually since I do plan to colour this digitally.

The Spirit Nymph

posted by: [info]mai_x in [info]shiftingdreams

The Nymph did not use to be. She had not existed up to this point, in the void atop the waking world. Then, one day, on the mortal plane a girl died, and she was formed.

Photoshop CS2, approx. 3 hours.
