Fanfiction? I was just curious if anyone read or wrote any Sharon Shinn fan-fiction. I just picked Archangel back up to re-read (already re-in love with Gabriel, god men with wings ><;) I know I will be craving more and there has not been a new book in forever. If this post is not okay I will delete it. Thanks! Current Mood: flirty | | Tuesday, November 6th, 2007 | 10:42 pm [mylittlepwny]

Nothing screams NEW like the Hey, I'm New Here post. Hi. First time posting, so I hope this is acceptable content. I've been counting the days until Reader and Raelnyx comes out, and I am all kinds of curious about the possible 5th book in the series; does anyone know if she's planning on writing any about Kirra again? Because as much as I love every single character, I especially love Kirra and anything revolving around her is good in my book. "Castle Auburn" Soundtrack Hello, Shinnites!
I am working on a fake soundtrack for "Summers At Castle Auburn". Do any of you have thoughts about what music should be included? | | Thursday, October 18th, 2007 | 7:35 pm [vinval]

Hello! Just joined the community! Sharon Shinn is my absolute favorite writer, ever since I read Archangel. I was pleased to see a whole community devoted to her! I've got two questions: One: I've just marathon-read the Twelve Houses series and am eagerly awaiting Reader and Raelynx. Does anyone know if she plans to continue the series? Because I've fallen in love with it. Two: I love to read and write - especially fan-fiction. Is there any sites/stories anyone can recommend for fan-fiction? I know Laurell K. Hamilton has expressed she doesn't wish fan-fiction to be written for her series - and that, at least at one point, Sharon Shinn was in a writer's group with her. Has she expressed any similar wishes? I'd like to respect it, if she has. Thanks for input! Current Mood: cheerful | | Monday, October 15th, 2007 | 7:33 pm [q_sama]

Any leaks? Reader and Raelynx comes out next month - I haven't found any official reviews. I know the basic premis - war finally comes to Gillengaria, Cammon has a special particular position with the princess, we're to learn more about Valri. Have there been any summaries or info leaks? Hi, pretty new here. I've been a fan since last summer. Bought one of her books at a library sale, read it then nearly ran to my Barns&noble. LOL. I was just wondering if anyone has ever made any icons out of the art work? I'm a huge fan and LOVE all the pretties--any help would be so wonderful! Thanks in advance!

General Winston's Daughter? Is this the book that Sharon said had been haunting her for a long time? I just saw it on Amazon - Available October 4, 2007. What is it about? There is no synopsis on the website. | | Wednesday, February 7th, 2007 | 4:32 pm [betheliz]

Dream Maker's Magic wins award I know this community is not as active as it used to be, but it is worth mentioning. The Dream-Maker's Magic was placed on the 2007 Amelia Bloomer List. The Amelia Bloomer lists celebrates books for children and young people that show girls and women striving toward equality. The books on this list are ones that show how far we have come in achieving equality, showcase an idealistic or hopeful alternate or future view, and present strong role models for young people. Samaria RPG? Hi, I'm new to the community but a long time fan of Sharon Shinn's works, especially the Samaria novels. Although I've just read thirteenth house and loved that too. My favourite book was Jovah's Angel, it was the first one I read and brought me in to the world, Alleya is my favourite Archangel too.
One of my other hobbies is roleplaying, particularly PbP roleplay on forums. I've run a successful game in the past but now I'm looking for a new project. I adore the world of Samaria.. I mean who wouldn't want to be an Angel, a Manadaavi Lord, a Jansai trader, a wandering Edori or an Angel seeker? To explore Luminaux and Semorrah, and trek to the Plain of Sharon for the Gloria? It would be an amazing world to take part in, and I'd really like to create an RPG based on it if there is interest.
So please let me know if this takes your fancy. I'd love to hear any comment, queries or suggestions on the idea.

Dark Moon Defender I have started reading Sharon Shinn’s latest book – Dark Moon Defender. I didn’t think I had read it before but now that I’ve started it, I read it in manuscript. I think it might have been called Dark Moon Daughter or something else then. Anyway, it’s a very good book. Dark Moon Defender is book 3 in the Twelve Houses series that Sharon has been writing. It follows Justin’s story. A good read, some romance, some intrigue and definitely some action if Justin is in it! : ) Current Mood: happy | | Thursday, October 5th, 2006 | 10:51 pm [msaggie] |
Kindred spirits I just joined today and am thrilled to be among kindred spirits! I have read all Sharon's books and own most of them, and just finished reading Dark Moon Defender (really enjoyed it). I am very glad to find out that the fourth book "Reader and Raelynx" is already written - may I ask Evensong when the expected publication date will be? And how could I get an ARC (if this is possible)?
I hope Sharon writes another Twelve Houses book after this! | | Saturday, August 5th, 2006 | 11:49 am [hpsevensong]

A Quick Update from Sharon In response to this question:
Evensong, can you tell us what Ms. Shinn is planning to work on next?
LFL
Ms. Shinn writes back:
"Um...what am I working on next. I just turned in the fourth book in the Twelve Houses series to my agent. I'm still waiting to hear if my young adult editor wants to buy a book I sent her. It tells the story of a young girl who follows her military father into a strange, rich land that her native country is attempting to invade and subdue. And I haven't decided what I'm working on after that! I'm considering a fifth book in the Twelve Houses series, but I might sit down and write a completely different book that's been haunting me for years."
And on a related note, I haven't gotten to "Reader and Raelynx" because I'm helping my daughter and son-in-law get ready to relocate. I like to sit and read Sharon's books nonstop, especially because the manuscript format is not conducive to carrying the book around, like a bound book would be. But as soon as I finish it, I'll let you know what I think. | | Friday, July 28th, 2006 | 11:30 pm [hpsevensong]

New Manuscript Not to make everybody too jealous, but this evening Sharon dropped off a manuscript of the fourth Gillengaria book, "Reader and Raelynx". It's about Cammon and Amalie.
Gotta go read! | | Monday, July 3rd, 2006 | 7:26 pm [lfl1] |
Upcoming Shinn books Hi, everyone, I just joined today. I have enjoyed Sharon Shinn's books very much in the past. My favorite are Archangel, Jovah's Angel, Angelica, Heart of Gold, and The Safe Keeper's Secret. I've also read and enjoyed Wrapt in Crystal, The Alleluia Files, Angel-Seeker, Mystic and Rider and the novella "Fallen Angel." The Shape-Changer's Wife is probably my least favorite, but even that was better than average.
I have yet to read the novella in The Queen in Winter, the two other short stories that I know of, The Thirteenth House or The Dream Maker's Magic, but I plan to read them all.
The question I hope someone here can answer is this: other than Dark Moon Defender, which is coming out this October, and the fourth Gillengaria book which I believe will feature Cammon, what other books does Ms. Shinn have in the works? Will there be another book in the series beginning with The Safe Keeper's Secret, or is she working or planning to work on something else?
If anyone can pass on any information, I will be very grateful

Hello again everyone...thanks for your helpful replies to my last post, just thought I'd update you. I went to Barnes & Nobles, read the first chapter and a few pages, and for some stupid reason didn't buy it because I still wasn't sure if I was liking it or not.
But I've been thinking about it all day, so apparently I did! I wish I had gone ahead and gotten it...errrgh! I guess I was sort of uncertain about the fantasy religion aspect immediately being launched into, instead of subtly introduced in the background, for some reason...I'm not entirely sure why, because I have enjoyed other fantasy-religion books( a la Kushiel's Dart).
After some reflection though, the book seemed very unique. I can't wait to read it. Silly me for not purchasing it immediately! | | Friday, May 12th, 2006 | 8:14 pm [alwaysmoi]

a question! Hello everyone...I'm excited to have discovered this community!
I randomly checked out "Summers at Castle Auburn" from the library a few summers ago and read it in an evening. It's one of the few, really good books where I "forget" my surroundings, which prompted me to go to the bookstore and buy a copy to keep at home. It's definitely my favorite, followed closely by Mystic & Rider and the Thirteenth House. I'm particularly fond of Kirra as her name is the same as mine, minus an extra r---though I suppose that's a bit of a fifth grade reason to favor a character :)
Ah, anyway, I have a bit of an embarassing confession: I haven't read the Samaria trilogy yet because I generally abhor science fiction....for some reason, it just doesn't capture me the way all other genres do( I do not mean this offensively, so I hope it isn't coming across in a negative fashion!) I definitely plan on giving these books a try---but as I'm a starving college student, I can't decide whether to spring for it or check it out from the library. I have a long plane trip coming up, a budget big enough for about one or two books to read en route, and I'll go mad if I don't have a good book to keep me company. Though I can always reread Summers at Castle Auburn :)
So, my question(s): how much of the first Samaria book is science fiction and how much is fantasy? If any of you guys aren't crazy about science fiction either, what was your opinion of it?
I'd go poke around on amazon.com book reviews, but lately I've been burned by people who can't seem to restain blurting out the key plot points/ending/characters deaths/etc. | | Sunday, March 12th, 2006 | 4:07 pm [_hallow_]

I keep forgetting to post this, but I wanted to share. Last week a friend of mine gave me an ARC of The Dream-maker's Magic, the third in Sharon's YA series. I'm very excited to read it. :) I will report back when I am finished. | 2:59 pm [sunrunnersioned]

I just wanted to post and say hi to everyone here. I just recently became a fan of Sharon Shinn. Before Shinn I was devoted to Melanie Rawn and thought no one could possible compare. Well I was wrong. I LOVE Shinn's work! I haven't read them all yet but I would enjoy to talk to anyone who has. Thanks so much and I can't wait to meet you all! | | Saturday, March 11th, 2006 | 9:04 am [q_sama]

Novels of the Twelve Houses I fell in love with Mystic and Rider when it came out last year, so I was nearly prancing last week when I finished reading The Thirteenth House. I'd love to hear some of your opinions about characterization and plot. The first time I read the synopsis for M&R I thought "Shinn... doing QUEST fantasy?" but was delighted to discover that she still utilizes her ability to create amazingly detailed, complex and realistic societies. The Thirteenth House didn't disappoint me at all in the continuation, and I think they're quite amazing enough to surpass my love of the orginal Archangel Trilogy. But perhaps even more delightful than The Thirteenth House was my immediate discovery of her short story "When Winter Comes", in the collection of short stories called The Queen In Winter. It reminded me very much of her short story "Fallen Angel" in To Weave a Web of Magic in that it featured familiar characters. However, "When Winter Comes" picks up the story of two girls who are periphery characters in Mystic and Rider and continues their tale. It's lovely in that it's placed somewhere between the other two Twelfth House novels, so it carries the weight of uncertainty. Sosie is traveling with a mystic baby, and encounters the entire entourage of Coralinda Gisseltess. She also is rescued (and has a chance to rescue) Darryn Rappengrass, who is probably my favorite side-character in the other two books. It's a quick read, but I highly recommend it for anyone who fancies Gillengaria half as much as I do. :D Current Mood: thoughtfulCurrent Music: Seasons of Love |
