Share Comedy...

Any other 'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue' fans out there?

I received the following e-mail this morning from the BBC's ISIHAC mailing list:

"Dear I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue Mailing List Member,

I was expecting to announce the venues and dates of recordings in the
Spring series of "I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue", but unfortunately I've
had to put these plans on hold as Humphrey Lyttelton has been detained
in hospital for an operation to repair an aortic aneurysm.

We are unclear precisely how long Humph's recovery period will be, but
it seems very likely that the Spring Series of "I'm Sorry I Haven't A
Clue" will have to be postponed.

Humph is otherwise fine and in very good spirits. However, if you
wish to write him a get well message, send him an email to this
address with the subject 'Get Well Humph' and I'll print it off for
him. I imagine it'll be nice for him to have something to read in his
hospital bed.

There's no need to worry if you have tickets for our "I'm Sorry I
Haven't A Clue" Tour Show at the Bournemouth Pavilion this Tuesday
(22nd April). I'm delighted to say that ISIHAC favourite Rob Brydon
has kindly agreed to deputise for Humph.

Have any of you seen Thank God You're Here on ITV? I personally don't think much of it, not least because I'm head-over-heels in love with the original Australian show. I uploaded a few to show a friend, and thought I should share them. Right click and save!

Things to note which are different from, and better than, the UK version:

- The music and layout of the set it more lively and upbeat, feels of a higher quality, and doesn't look like it was made by the same people who made You've Been Framed

- The presenter is a little cheesy, but also the most positive and happy man in the world.

- They have a guy to judge all the sketches, whose sole job is to say nice things about everyone, so even when things aren't too funny, you still feel delighted after watching an episode. Also, the judge makes the structure of the whole thing stronger. When Paul Merton does a sketch, afterwards he essentially just says "That was fun. BYE!". Having a guy there to round things off helps things to flow. I challenge you to watch the presenter and the judge, and not feel delighted and exuberant at the end of the episode.

- Even when jokes don't work, the audience stick with the performers and the energy isn't lost, and there's a really strong feeling that everyone is trying their best and having fun

- The bits which aren't filmed live don't feel as "cold", for lack of a better word. Less forced, as well, more natural. There's background music, and the sketches are set up in a much more professional way.

I suppose that the UK version of TGYH just feels very ITV. It's great that ITV are giving different ideas a go, but when they hold onto the same old approach to writing and style, things are going to feel just as mediocre as Hale and Pace.

But enough of that - let me know what you think!

Mighty Boosh Episodes

Hi everyone, I'm hoping you can help me...

I had a minor panic attack yesterday when I realized that the Mighty Boosh episodes were no longer up at the Stage 6 website, and neither were they on TVLinks. As an American fan there's no chance of seeing them on television and I never got around to downloading the episodes. Does anyone have Series 1 and Series 2 episodes?

Does anyone have any old Armando Iannucci's Charm Offensive? Listening to this week's episode reminded me how much I love it, but I seem to have lost the previous two series. :(

Right-click and save this show. I beg you, I implore you, download this show. I honestly can't remember the last time I laughed so hard at a show - and this is just a pilot! It's genius, from beginning to end, via the middle.

Biffovision is a sketch show written by Paul Rose, or Mr. Biffo as he calls himself when he's writing articles. Back in The Olden Days, he used to write Digitiser, the computer games section of Channel 4's teletext service, which was more about weird comedy than reviewing games. Nowadays he still writes about games sometimes, but like Charlie Brooker, he's mostly broken away from it, and gone into other things. He's written scripts for Eastenders (and got a load of complaints for making one of the words say a series of words that sounded like "cunt"), My Parents are Aliens, and he's been nominated for a few industry awards, too. But you don't care about that, mum - you care about the funnies. Every single line in this show is quotable, weird, surreal, silly, and utterly hilarious. And to think that this is just a pilot that they knocked up quickly to see how it would work!

Eh, I'm looking for MP3s of Dylan Moran, Ross Noble and Bill Bailey as I'm making a CD of comedy to ~~distract me from any work I have to do~~ help me get through the long, cruel school term without killing myself or someone else.

I'm also looking for other comedians I might not have heard of, those are just examples of the kind of stuff i'm into :D
